  1. Yes, I did like the Eagles. And I don't think that they suck. But after hearing the same damn songs over and over... And that applies to ANYTHING that Don Henley sings on, actually. Just one of those voices and one of those presences whose mere existance has been working on my nerves for the last 25 or 30 years. And I think that is probably how most of the Eagles haters here feel. Nobody denies them their talent, it's just... ENOUGH ALREADY. That said, Joe Walsh has escaped a lot of the ill feelings associated with his former band. Both from me and from many other Eagles haters that I kno
  2. I just make it up as I go along. Some beef, some beans, some tomatoes (both canned and fresh), some chili powder, onion powder, garlic powder... Maybe some cinnamon, cocoa, and clove, if I'm feeling the Cincy thing. Cook it for about 3 or 4 hours. Just make that up. It's hard to screw up.
  3. The fact that they share a birthday, too has got to drive Ryan Adams freaking crazy.
  4. What is it? And I am listening to the following today: Willie Nelson - To Lefty, From Willie D'Angelo - Voodoo Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Live Seeds Brinsley Schwarz - Cruel To Be Kind (Live @ the BBC) Pandora.com -- Tom Z
  5. Can somebody explain it to me so'ze that I can participate in that other "One Song" thread? I tried asking in there, but got no response. Is it just reciting what you think are good lyrics? Anyway... thanks.
  6. My Top 5 (for now): King Khan & The Shrines - What Is?!?! Martin Newell - A Summer Tamarind Tom Z
  7. Happy Ashtray - Happy Friday mp3 series
  8. American Idiot does have a lot more substance, both lyrically and musically than most of their past records. The only thing that sounds the same is Billy Joe's voice; I can understand how a lot of people have a hard time getting past that.
  9. I loved Gish. And I think that, musically, a lot of the SP stuff is really good and interesting. I just don't like his voice. His singing sounds like a baby with colic at 3 a.m. (But the voice works when there's layers of guitars around it.)
  10. Keep it simple: "I'm always in love."
  11. Love me some Tex. I think that he could be a little too politically INcorrect for these times, though. Still, the guy's a genius. Along with the old Warner Brothers cartoons, those were the best there were.
  12. That 70's Show Just about every night before I go to bed.
  13. Naked Raygun It appears that they have re-formed, at least for a little while. (They're playing RiotFest in Chicago this year.)
  14. Still, I do think that we owned this song. I play the second guitar... I took inspiration from Peter Hook (Joy Division/New Order bass player) in conceiving it. We had a tough time getting it together, but once I got my part in-line, it all fell in-place. I am very proud of it. http://spadekitty.com/media/rpb2.mp3 Moderator: please delete this thread if you think it's too promotional. Yeah, I'm bitter about being forced out, but I just listened to it today and was struck by how good it is.
  15. Listening right now to The Jim Carroll Band. Here (streaming audio): www.iacmusic.com/jimcarrollband I forgot how great he is. And yeah, nobody mentions him here. Another, newer band: The Format Great pop band from New Mexico. Here's a live video from MySpace: http://tinyurl.com/2eoah6 (I hope this link works.)
  16. I think that, even if it did alienate half their listening base, the whole Dixie Chicks flap actually earned them a whole new audience. I know that it was in the midst of all that hullabaloo that my wife decided to check them out. Just because if it all.
  17. 10/31: Frank Lenz - The Hot Stuff Jimi Hendrix - Axis: Bold As Love Johnny Cash - American V: A Hundred Highways The Arcade Fire - Funeral Belle & Sebastian - The Life Pursuit
  18. Yeux Sans Visage (Eyes Without A Face) Another creepy, mad scientist movie that is surprisingly graphic for its time.
  19. I love 'em both. The Di'Anno years were too short, although I suppose my favorite songs are with Di'Anno ("Running Free" and "Number Of the Beast"). He was more punk. But Bruce Dickinson was pretty damn good too, for the operatic metal thing.
