Looking to get d-man his first guitar
PopTodd replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Someone Else's Song
Go to Geoff Benge's Guitar Shop on Damen (and Addison). Many of the guitars will be out of your range, but he may have some cheapos, too. Also, Geoff is a great guy and a MASTER repairman and luthier. www.geoffbengesguitarshop.com Seriously. Call ahead though, to see if he has anything for you. He just may. And, if he does, it'll be better than anything you'll get for the same price at Guitar Center. -
Looking to get d-man his first guitar

You're in TX. There have to be a billion little, independent guitar stores near you. Go to one of those and pick up a decent used instrument. You can get a good deal there and also build a relationship with somebody who actually KNOWS guitars and will help you out in the future. It's like getting to know a good mechanic that you can trust. -
Yeah, it's for WXRT "VIPs". But, you know, that's how I met Louie and Wendy (we all won tix to that Steve Earle show a couple of months ago) and, therefore, found this place to begin with. So, it ain't all bad. Just an FYI for you Chicagoans. And a "NEYAH-NEYAH" to you non-Chicagoans. (sorry.) EDIT: Sorry if this was covered in the "Residency" thread, but I wasn't gonna sift through all 10 pages there.

Tried downloading, but being at work kinda throws a kink into that whole thing. I will check you out at myspace though, when I get a chance. Thanks.

You absolutely stole my answer. This one is a lot of fun, if not wholly representative of the man. It's RT solo/acoustic (as you wanted), but covering songs from -- as you could have guessed -- the last 1000 years. Literally. From Olde English and Welsh ballads to Cole Porter to Britney Spears. It's a lot of fun.

Although, with only one vote, I have to go with Christmas Story. And also, Nightmare... is right up there, too.

Kinda inspired by the "Rock Star's Guitars" thread: I just want to know what I asked up there in the topic subhead. Do you? What's the story behind the name? My main electric ('88 Squire Strat): "Susan" for the first person to ever tell me that they liked one of my songs. My main acoustic ('93 Epiphone EO model): "Sharon" for my wife My new guitar (Regal resonator): "Barbara" for my grandmother, who was thrilled when I picked up the guitar. (Mods: move this to the "Ummmm" forums, please? thx)

So yeah, I know that this is a Wilco forum and all, but this album has kicked my ass from the day that I heard it. If you like garage/psych/acid/rock/r'n'b that sounds like a cross of: Syd's Pink Floyd, DirtBombs, White Stripes, 13th Floor Elevators, and stuff..., this is your record. PM for a small taster. Or go to their MySpace if I can't manage one: www.myspace.com/kingkhantheshrines

Oh yes, I almost forgot: Young Frankenstein: "Puttin' On the Ritz" scene. It's so juvenille, but so genuinely funny at the same time. Peter Boyle, RIP. EDIT: Forgive me if one of those YouTube clips showed this scene... I have no access to YouTube either.
