  1. Anyone have that out-of-print Laughner demos collection? -- Take the Guitar Player For a Ride? (Yes, that was him that Wilco was quoting on "Misunderstood".) You know of any other Laughner collections out there? My copy of the one mentioned above has been trashed and, as it is out-of-print, I obviously have no access to a copy for less than $50-100. Fans? Do you know the solo stuff, or just the Pere Ubu and Dead Boys tracks?
  2. So is this thread the death of my cred as a relative newbie?
  3. Just listen to their version of "Hanging On the Telephone" or "Stay With Me" before you pass judgement. So good. Oh, and Pyromania doesn't have a single piece of filler.
  4. They put out an all-covers album last year that was REALLY damn good. Just a great rock band playing the songs that inspired them to play music in the first place. Excellent versions of: 1 20th Century Boy (Bolan) 3:40 2 Rock On (Essex) 2:53 3 Hanging on the Telephone (Lee) 2:22 4 Waterloo Sunset (Davies) 3:38 5 Hell Raiser (Chapman, Chinn) 3:19 6 10538 Overture (Lynne) 4:30 7 Street Life (Ferry) 3:26 8 Drive-In Saturday (Bowie) 4:07 9 Little Bit of Love (Fraser, Kirke, Kossoff) 10 The Golden Age of Rock 'N' Roll (Hu
  5. You're just looking for a fight, eh? You're not gonna get it. Just commenting on how earnest and urgent the guy sounds. Listen to him and think about my original statement. You'll most-likely chuckle.
  6. Or at least that's the way he sings it. I cannot think of a more powerful vocalist in rock. Yeah, some of it is overwrought, but still. The guy was so great that when he left Small Faces, he had to be replaced with TWO people: Rod Stewart and Ron Wood. All hail Steve.
  7. I like to play in the key of Zb. Favorite chord Qminor 13 half-demented
  8. I'm not a Radiohead fan. Just don't buy into the cult. That said, OK Computer is a good record. And I do like what I've heard of Rainbows. I'll prolly pick that up. Yeah, I like to be contrarian.
  9. Today (10/29): The Small Faces - The Singles: A's & B's V/A - Garden Of Earthly Delights: Garden of Punky Delights Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique Toots & The Maytalls - Funky Kingston/In the Dark Sugar - Beaster
  10. No harm in sending more good vibes. Get better quickly, sir!
  11. Damn. Sorry about that. Please take care of yourself.
  12. I was 7 years old and interviewing for the role of "Danny" in The Shining. I'm pretty sure it was him.
  13. I met Stanley Kubrick once. Oh, and I want this box set!
  14. I have a little boy with peanut and tree nut allergies. So we're handing out plain Hersey bar minis and Mike n' Ikes.
  15. Pugwash - Almanac First listen and, this is really good pop. For fans of: XTC, ELO, Jon Brion, Jellyfish
  16. So, the show was a lot of fun. A bit too much talking (played 2 songs, then was interviewed for 10-15 minutes, rinse, repeat...), but still cool and entertaining. The interviewer was Warren Zanes (from the Del Fuegos) and they had a good report -- have known each other for a long time. Played mostly songs from her as-yet-unreleased album. And they sounded good.
  17. Okay, so forget what I said earlier in the thread. This format sounds amazing for a long-time fan (like me). IWANNAGO!IWANNAGO!IWANNAGO!IWANNAGO!IWANNAGO!
  18. The Replacements - All Shook Down
  19. Just like every Right-wing talk show host. We're all different in the exact same ways. Oh, and I am not defending the tactics, just making an observation.
  20. This tour was my first big concert. And I would be curious to hear the extra stuff.
  21. Depends on the night. I've seen them twice. First time was relevatory. Brilliant. Second was absoloute shite.
  22. "Do you know what Britney Spears sounds like?" "Yeah." "Nothing at all like that."
