  1. Ill agree that disarm is the weak link-and the radio/video play killed it

    but I dont skip it

Rush moving pictures comes to mind

and as much as I hate to admit it

    Nirvana nevermind

Tribe called quest low end theory

kudos to whomever said pauls boutique (although I like Ill communication better and would add that to the list)

    Joe Jackson-big world

    Zep? its II for me

Floyd? now that I think about it, they have a bunch of records that are damn close to flawless

meddle, dark side, wish you were here, animals, the wall, the final cut-love em all start to finish

funny, I dont think I saw a who record mentioned

  2. I was at the Hartford show and was well aware of the St. Stephen played at MSG a few nights earlier. The entire place was on edge (imo) with anticipation out of Space. Those first notes of Stephen still send shivers down my spine. The place absolutely lit up. Still my favorite of the three they broke out.

I was also at that Hartford show (dont think I missed one in hartford 82-89)

that SS breakout remains one of my top concert moments for any band

Lots of grate shows at the civic center

  3. Don't know why but that made me laugh. I always imagined Waters in the back of a limosine would be like a facist dictator or something like the character in the movie version of The Wall. The image of him hanging out the window waving seems contrary to his image.

Alot of people have mentioned the pros and cons tour here recently. I must stick on the album as I haven't heard it in a long time.

well he wasnt hanging out of the limo like a teenage girl on prom night :lol

the limo was making a left turn out of the venue the window was open and all the fans (20 people) on the other side of the street saw him and went nuts

so he just kinda looked over and waved.

  4. roger waters-pros and cons tour

just got out of the show, feeling very good and with a serious case of the munchies, my bro and I are standing in line at the chili dog truck and a limo goes by-its waters sticking his head out and waving-like two feet in front of me

    very cool

  5. I think there are several sources for that show up at bt.etree.org. There are well over 400 Jerry shows there. I doubt all of them are being seeded, but they are listed there. I have never really heard any of his solo stuff - except for the Legion of Mary show I have.

Yeah, I did get one of the copies from there-not bad, but not great either.

You should really check out the JGB stuff-some of it is just fantastic. I have had the warner theater show from 78 on repeat for the last few days.

There are a bunch of 82-83 shows on there that I may check out this weekend.

I am partial to the JGB shows 74-83 and the acoustic stuff 84-86. Not a huge fan of the bluegrass stuff or the later incarnation of the JGB that played arenas from 89? on.

  6. robert plant

    eddie vedder

    jim james

    bob dylan

    ???????

    wow, just wow!

has someone forgot lennon, mccartney and daltrey?

There are only three bands whose singers totally irritate me-despite some decent music

    1. Metallica-hetfield has the worst voice ever-I dont understand how people can listen to him

    2. the arcade fire-shrilly annoyance

    3. Liam Gallagher-now I dig oasis, but that nasally whine has got to go!

  7. Ditto, dmada with the sentiments about JGB shows, the Bushnell, the Jerry (and John) acoustic shows (I think the only true solo show was that Capital theatre early and late shows on 4-10-82). Garcia was supposedly pretty damn intimidated up there all alone....

Some folks would argue that prime/peak years for JGB shows were 80-83.....

You are correct, I meant the Jerry and John acoustic shows.

Definitely loved the set up in 1983, but after listening to some of the 78 shows (like the pure jerry warner theater release)-I think the band was just a little tighter and less speedy if that makes any sense (shift to a different white powder perhaps? :hmm )

loved seeing Jerry in the theaters, its really what got me hooked (5-30-83 show in particular-

    - Set 1 -

How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You), They Love Each Other, Mission In The Rain, Mystery Train, Gomorrah, Run For The Roses

    - Set 2 -

Rhapsody In Red, I'll Take A Melody, Simple Twist Of Fate, Harder They Come, Tangled Up In Blue, Midnight Moonlight

the last three songs just blew me away

    ahh the good ole days

  8. In a lot of ways I enjoyed the JGB shows more than the dead shows

saw my first in May of 83 at the the Bushnell in Hartford-missed their peak by a few years :thumbup

and I feel lucky to have seen a bunch of the jerry solo acoustic shows

    good times

  9. I know who that guy is now. There is a bunch of illegal stuff there - that is, he is putting up commercially available albums. I think that link should be removed from this thread.

or else Ms. Koons' goons will get ya!!!!!!

  10. He drinks wine on stage? That's great. I'd like to think that not just anyone can get away with that. You have to be one cool motherfucker to sip wine while rocking out.

yeah and if they play crazy mary, the bottle gets passed to those in the front rows

used to be siduri-private stock just for vedder-or cal cabernets like Jordan

but he has switched to italians-barolos as the rider states

but he sure doesnt drink cheap wine

Boston setlist is great, I was at hartford and newark and hitting MSG tonight and tomorrow

The band is really in a groove. Hartford had more energy and a fun crowd, Newark had a better setlist. Should be interesting to see what they break out at MSG.

  11. I won't argue that some of these prices for the front 10 rows are crazy but we all know the alternative is that these tix end up in the hands of brokers and go for obscene prices anyway. At least this way you would think the artist gets some of it.

I personally don't think it's a money grab when you look at comps in the industry. When I saw Wilco open for Neil Young in 2008 at the spectrum, the good seats were $225. Now I like Neil and all but that show was basically 4 old men standing still and playing 3 chords. This Wall tour is going to be on a level probably never seen in rock concerts, I agree it's more Broadway than a concert but that's ok. I think I heard 18 tractor trailers to transport and 100 stage hands per night. There is obviously a cost to that on top of the cost to develop the show.

Also, I think they got the market correct with these prices, I was actually shocked they added a 3rd philly show. That shows that while we're all bitching and moaning, we're also paying and demand is there. And like was pointed out before, this is one show where you don't need to be next to the stage, being farther back will actually give a better perspective and you don't need to pay top dollar. I'm just glad this isn't Pink Floyd. As much as I'd like to see it, now we're talking $350 -$400 a ticket with much higher demand. I was listening to a RW Dark Side '07 boot last night and while Kilminster is no Gilmour, he's pretty good.

no question they know the market

40-55 years old with hefty bank accounts

Im not surprised its still selling, the prices are carefully calculated to sell at the same price as the secondary market-i.e. stubhubis prices-this is what is turning me off- its the beginning of unaffordable tickets so that LN/TM can capture the profits being made by resellers. I hope nobody buys the 1700, 900 and 500 tickets and they are empty for the show.

    end rant

Im sure it will be an entertaining spectacle. I wonder if he has any of the original props from the 1980 tour.

  12. official platinum seats @ the boston show:

    FLOORB 1 13 - 14 2 US $1,476.33

hey roger, i want to see a concert, not fly to australia.

    YUP $1700 for MSG

Im so turned off by the prices.

    Can you say money grab?

I love Waters and his tours when he had new material were great (especially pros and cons with clapton).

But this is starting to feel more like a broadway play than a concert.

  13. I dunno whats up with PJs sound man. Sometimes the sound is just off at arenas where the sound can be great. Also, when you are up close you dont always get good sound because the PA is playing over you. Dont compare them to Waters, PJ is actually singing and playing up there=a waters show is mostly recorded :P .

Unfortunately, there are a decent number of 6ft+ guys, screamers, drunks, and off-key singers at PJ shows. Sorry to hear that you had one in front and one behind you.

But that Cleveland setlist is fantastic. Ending with indifference=awesome.

  14. I have seen video clips of the inside of some of those Japanese shops. There is quite a bit of stuff there to catch the eye.

I think the Woodstock box set I use to have came from Italy. I got back in the early 1990s.

The independent Japanese CD shops used to be very cool, but in recent years I have seen less and less of them and the ones that I do still see have less and less unique stuff. I used to spend tons of cash there when most bands were offering bonus tracks/videos on CDs sold in Japan. A trip through the CD shops of Harajuku is just amazing. There is so much stuff that is sold only in Japan-especially if you are into DJ/Techno or jazz. Up until about 2002, you could always find boots in those stores-of just about every artist. They also would sell compilations that were put together by bootlegers. But recently, I find that they dont carry nearly as much of that stuff. Some have stopped selling the bootlegs completely. I am certain that the market for hard boots is getting crushed due to crackdowns and the BT/download sites.

Yeah when I used to buy a lot of boots in Japan, they were almost always sourced in Italy.

  15. I am curious as to how much of the bootleg market is made up of Pearl Jam shows. I may try to find out. Someone must be buying cds from those Japanese shops. It must be people with a lot money.

I don't think I have listened to the last Pearl Jam album since I got it. I doubt that I will listen to it again.

For me, Pearl Jam is Vs., Vitalogy, and No Code.

I agree. I dont understand why anyone would purchase a "fabricated" boot unless it was a rare show or unusually high quality. I would say that its people who are technologically challenged or are scared to use BT/download sites.

I know the Japanese shops you speak of as I often travel to Japan. I have not looked for a bootleg in those shops in years. There are fewer of those shops as well-they used to be everywhere in Tokyo. I never thought it was smart to plop down $40+ for a boot when you have not heard it first! Although I did do it a few times-One was Nirvana's final show-pretty good actually although the levels are low. I do know that I have seen fewer Pearl jam boots in stores like generation records in NYC (where I used to buy the Italian made boots).

Perhaps there are still people in this world that walk into a CD shop, see something they have never seen before, notice the unique artwork, see a full live show and think its something special or rare.

As far as PJ records go, I love all the records from Ten to Binaural (which is totally underrated IMHO). The last three definitely have some clunkers. I think that is because Ed has been more open to input from and the songs written by other band members. With each new record, I have come to expect that there will be a few songs I really like, a few I dont, and a few that I are just there. My original feeling of backspacer was that I didnt like the production and the piano was to high in the mix. But after seeing the songs live and just letting the record play in the background or in the car for awhile, I have come to really like most of it. Johhny guitar could be on vitalogy and it would fit right in.

  16. That's understandable. I don't think I've listened to Backspacer since October, it was such a disappointment. I feel like I should go back and give it another try so I'll at least be familiar with the songs.

Only recently have I stared to enjoy it more. It helps to hear them live as well.

Took the longest of all the records for me to start liking it.

  17. I still think a lot of record companies, bands, managers, etc. don't understand the difference between tape trading (B & P or BT), and people selling bootlegs. Although, there are still bootlegs out there to buy. In Japan, there are entire stores devoted to bootlegs.

I suppose I just don't get the fact that they allow taping, but only hand held taping. Some bands allow taping, but don't allow their shows to be traded by way of BT sites.

I guess it is just their way of trying to keep people from selling their shows.

Is there a large market for Pearl Jam bootlegs (that is people selling them)? I don't know.

Id guess that these guys and curtis management are precisely tuned in to what is happening.

There is a some market for pre-2000 PJ boots (before they started selling them) but the band hasnt restricted trading or uploading of the older shows, so its weak at best.

Actually, part of their decision to start selling high quality boots was due to the European bootleggers.

At the end of the day, you can easily find the official boots to download-and the band doesnt do much to enforce its policies. Perhaps thats an unspoken part of the taping policy-"you will get our high quality boots anyway." Only the EV stuff has been strictly protected-which is why I think the studio/production co has to be involved.

The taping policy is kind of strange, perhaps they dont want mic stands in the crowd-

chalk it up to another quirky vedderism.
