  1. i'm still confused...so the surrogate band only played in the flesh? they sound exactly like floyd. of course, waters is singing.

Im not positive, but I think it is the back up players wearing masks for the first song. Not sure if they did that every night.

wiki " pink floyd the wall tour"

some of the vids are great, although I think some of the audio is not original to the video. As you watch it, you realize what a shame it is that Gilmour and Waters stopped playing music together. Check out the young lust:

  2. i'm going downtown to try to get a ticket outside next thursday in atlanta. we'll see. i usually have pretty good luck with that. i wonder if it's sold out. ironically, i've been listening to the Final Cut the last few weeks. i'd like to hear him tour that one. btw, didn't know there was an extra tune inserted on Final Cut with the 2001 remaster. When Tigers Broke Free. i only had passing familiarity with the original version. was this a big issue for floyd fans?

from what Ive heard, its not hard to score a ticket outside, at least up here in NY/NJ

I love the final cut, Id love to hear that one as well.

Ive been watching songs from the original wall show on you tube.

the videos index one after the other-VERY COOL

  3. I meant Present Tense from No Code. And I'm probably in the minority of fans that thinks Vitalogy, No Code, and Yield are the best records Pearl Jam have recorded.

I meant he/she needs to listen to it another ten times :yes

And I think a very large percentage of current fans would say that no code or yield is their favorite.

Personally, I like them equally up until riot act. The last three have a few songs I really like, and a few songs I really dont.

  4. Needs more Present Tense. I wonder why they're really releasing this if they already have a bootleg program. They could release something more awesome for their own anniversary.

The key is that it is available on vinyl, otherwise I agree. Live electric PJ on vinyl from more recent tours. $28 bucks shipped. Good enough for me.

Something tells me there will be more surprises from PJ in 2011.

  5. does anyone have any guesses as to how many tickets tarrytown has left? between the presale and their own sale for members, i'm thinking that they've probably filled most of the orchestra seats. i can't decide if i'm better off trying to pull a decent seat for that show or trying for bowery...

hope we all have some better luck this time around!

Well I signed up and became a member for the member sale.

I was a little late, but only the last three rows of the orch were available-so I grabbed third row balcony.

Hard to tell if they saved any of the orch for the public sale

the bowery will be a VERY difficult ticket

The scalpers will be all over both.

I think you would be lucky to get ANY ticket to either show.

  6. also, new wilco tweet:

total of 46 tix available for #jefftweedy @boweryballroom pre-sale this morning, 2 ticket limit means 23 out of thousands (?) got tix.

    and there you have it

this will be a very difficult ticket to get period

    its a very small room

October 24, 2010, Mountain View, CA, Bridge School Benefit

Set List: Daughter, Down, Driftin’, Other Side (1st time played live), The End (w/ strings), Walk With Me w/Neil Young (Neil Young), Lukin (w/strings), Just Breathe (w/strings), Black (w/strings), Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town (w/strings)

By all accounts the band sounded great.

    Other side!

  8. I did wonder about the ticket prices. I paid $30 to see Wilco in Iowa City last year, and thought that was about right. I also think ticket prices in general are very inflated. So, I'm surprised to see a $45 solo Tweedy ticket. But, it is what it is. If people don't like it, they don't have to go. I would also be surprised to find out that it was Jeff's doing somehow. He's not really a greedy guy.

Either way, I'm still wishing there is more to this than east coast dates!

Bowery and Tarrytown probably have higher than usual booking fees.

I believe Wilco and Tweedy try to keep its prices down as best they can.

  9. I called the music hall number and they said in 40 mins the pre-sale for MEMBERS ONLY will go on sale. Anyone here a member?

I am now. Row c in the balcony.

Only a handful of Orch tickets left for members. Id guess they are saving some for the public onsale.

Im happy. I live close by and will use the membership.

  10. i am not denying the fact that some current bands can draw big crowds. there's just not enough of them to sustain the current system.

Coldplay is about the only band i can think of (and admittedly this sphere isn't where i spend a lot of time, so i am likely missing a fair number of bands) who started releasing material in 1998 or later and can fill an arena. surely a dozen years is enough time to grow an audience to this size, right? edit - Kings of Leon also qualify.

my argument is that it was MUCH easier (and faster) to do this pre-Napster (which, coincidentally, started in 1999).

I don't see any compelling rebuttals against my premise.

    I forgot about coldplay

As far as filling arenas, I dont see how it relates to napster at all. Napster promoted piracy. If anything, you would think that would increase concert attendance due to it becoming a primary source of revenue. I beleive that is why you are seeing all the nostalgia acts-much fewer folks are buying their records these days.

Its the internet in general. The increased exposure of so many types of music and artists being available through so many different sources. And its the emergence independent labels and artists breaking away from the record companies' traditional method of selling music. Somewhere in there live nation/TM and the increase in prices along with the economy has affected bands' ability to fill arenas. Its the sum of all these parts IMHO.

So who is filling the arenas? R&B, rap, pop and country artists-with the occasional-latin or reggaeton star-unfortunately, these are what is popular in our country right now.

But I cant say Im unhappy about it. The only arena/stadium acts I see are Pearl Jam and Furthur. Otherwise, I am very happy that I can see MMJ at terminal 5 or wilco at the bushnell.

  11. green day came close to selling out giants stadium

dave matthews sells a lot of tickets at the major baseball parks

phish could probably come close to selling out a stadium in the right place on the right night

not sure if you consider these "modern" rock acts

also, Jay-z/eminem sold out yankee stadium and although its rap, they put on quite a show and it was the hottest ticket in town

there are a few "modern" acts that can do stadiums, and do them well-but I do agree that its nothing like the late 70s-eagles, stones, zep floyd, fleetwood mac, ac/dc, aerosmith, sabbath-Im probably forgetting a few

the big difference between then and now is the record companies' control over the music that was promoted and the limited avenues in which to do so-radio and concerts

now the artists have greater access to the markets and many many more ways to promote their music-and that has led to the fragmentation mentioned above
