Cutting defense is a good start, we would still be spending more on defense than anyone else. We need to close some of our foreign military bases as well. I am not for privatization of social security, especially after the last couple of weeks, but I can understand the argument. I have never heard Obama say 40-50%. He has talked about bringing it back to the Clinton levels around 31%. I seem to remember that people still made money back then.

Cutting spending wouldn't do enough. What programs would you take away? Infrasturucture, defense, education. Defense definitely needs to be cut by about half. The only problem with that is we are such a militarized economy now, a lot of jobs could be lost. The red herring is "pork barrel" spending which barely makes a dent in our budget.

I understand everyone hates paying taxes, but how are we going to pay off this mounting debt if some taxes aren't raised? We have been through 8 years of two wars and tax cuts and look where we are. A middle class income is actually worth $2000 less now due to higher prices for everything. A society is only as strong as its weakest members, if things keep going how they are we will be pathetic. I think the figure is somewhere around 45% of all US corporations haven't paid their taxes the last 4 years. Where is the outrage over this?

She just gave the dumbest answer I have ever heard! All she does is throw out topics in the hope that they stick. She reminds me of a stupid person who uses big words without knowing the meaning. Everytime she opens her mouth it is either "glass ceiling", "hockey mom", "thanks but no thanks", "lipstick", or "my husband is a champion snowmobile racer." WTF? How is this person still a candidate? I have never heard her say one substantive thing. Could you imagine having to listen to her and McCain the next four years? That is a fate worse than death. It would make you long for the days of the Bush Administration.

The only commission that ever really accomplished anything was the commission that investigated the mafia. Commissions are good if you have years and years to find an answer, not good if you need action immediately. Bush even refused to enforce any of the 9/11 commission findings. So what good would a commission be for the economic situation. Mainly it would create more government and we may have an answer say around 2011.

What's done is done. I am more concerned about what each candidate is going to do to fix the situation. All McCain had to say today was that we need to set up a commission, translation. . . he is going to do nothing.
