I agree with that. The end of Supper's Ready is about as good as it gets. Perfect. The version on Seconds Out is similarly amazing. For anyone thinking of getting into Genesis I always recommend Seconds Out. I also think that Selling England is probably the most 'complete' Genesis record. I envy anyone sitting down to listen to it for the first time. Firth or Fifth and Cinema Show are genius (Battle of Epping Forest less so!). As someone else mentioned 'Invisible Touch' is a great record. If you take it on its merits, without the Genesis baggage, its a staggering pop recording. Its also got

Yeah sorry about that. To be honest I think the relegation dog-fight is of more importance to you guys. You did come into it a bit in the second half but for the first forty-five you let us play too much. Beating Wolves was a massive three points and I wish you well for the rest of the season. Hopefully when Coyle beds in you might start playing some better football. Talking about good football, we played some nice stuff against you lot. Bale was on fire down the left and Pavlyuchenko looks like he is ready to stake a claim for a first team spot.

I can't beleive that there are any Wilco fans who would support Ar*%nal. That is a contradiction in taste! Seriously, I find it hard to dilike the Gooners apart from the old rivalry. They now play beautiful football (unlike twenty years ago when they were the most boring side on the planet). They are well run and I do applaud their transfer policy. I really feel for young Mr. Ramsey as that one looked a bit painful!!. We did pretty well at the weekend. Gareth Bale is starting to look like a more than decent player. Its been a really strange season this year, both in the fight for the Premie

As a Spurs fan myself I'm hoping bolton's misery is compounded somewhat tonight. I feel we have enough to see you lot off at White Hart Lane. Still, you never know. We have had some strange results this season. With regard to the Liverpool vs City game...what a horror show. Thankfully Spurs never revert to playing that particular brand of football. Play to win. Outsocre your opponants. That is the only way top play.

What bands or artist do you like more than Wilco?
Wild Frank replied to remphish1's topic in Just A Fan
I feel this way about Dylan. He is so far ahead of everyone else that I don't even bother to mention him in these type of threads. I don't even listen to him that much these days but for influence and sheer body of work he is light-years ahead of everyone else (even The Beatles). -

I'm with 'Raindog'. Tom Waits is untouchable in my book. Never put out a bad record and his recent releases are every it as good as anything he has ever done. My favorite band is 'Lambchop' but Wilco come in just behind them, although Sparklehorse run them both pretty close. -
Wow. There's alot in your post. I live in the U.K and, along with most of us here, follow the Premier League with a passion. I'm a Spurs fan myself so things are going pretty well for us this season. Unfortunately we have a long-standing habit of cocking things up so I can't see us qualifying for the Champions League. The situation at Portsmouth is very interesting and may be the first of many. Hopefully it will bring about a fundamental change in the way football is run over here. The money is now having a detrimental effect on the league so changes need to be made. Even as a Spurs fan (w

good albums that are way too long
Wild Frank replied to Vacant Horizon's topic in Someone Else's Song
Nicely explained using the classic burger-analogy method. I like a burger but I always take out the gerkins. Most albums have a few ghekins in them!! -
I couldn't see a thread on this but.....the new record by Gil Scott-Heron is amazing. He's been off the scene for the best part of twenty years with regard to recorded output. This is a producer-artist type effort in a similar vein to the Rubben/Cash recordings. The results are staggering. Its a very short album, and a lot of it is spoken word pieces, but I would recommend it. There is a 'Massive Attack' feel to alot of the tracks. The title track is a 'Smog' cover I believe. I don't think I've heard a stronger album this year. Certainly the most pleasantly surprising.

Lonoong SONGS that you wish would go on even longer
Wild Frank replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Genesis 'Supper's Ready'. Its 23 minutes long but I could do with a little bit more. -

Agreed. Although, in reference to your Avatar, I will Always skip through 'Old King'!! -
This is the saddest song I know. Its by Tom Waits and is called 'I'm Still Here'. For me it's about an old couple and the man and the woman, whilst married, have lost the spark. The woman is pre-ocupied with her life and does not really interact with the man at all. He is still craving romance and the love/lust that used to be present in their relationship. The lyrics are sad on there own but when you hear Tom actually sing the song it will break your heart to pieces. Try it. You haven't looked at me that way in years You dreamed me up and left me here How long was I dreaming for What was it

I would also say that my favourite album ever has two songs that I don't care for on it. The first eight tracks on 'Nixon' by Lambchop are totally perfect in every way but the last two are average. Its still my favourite record though and I wouldn't want those two songs removed. -

....and I agree about the My Morning Jacket records. Its no surprise that, in my opinion, 'Z' is their best record. Its consise and limits itself to about 50 minutes. There is no filler and no song outstays its welcome. Arguably 'At Dawn' and 'It Still Moves' both have better songs on them but, as a whole, they don't gell together as well as 'Z'. Unfortunatley they also lost the focus on 'Evil Urges' which was just plain poor. -

I can seriously think of no double albums (or 70 minute cd's) that wouldn't be improved by removing a couple of songs. For me an album should be about 45 minutes long, or two sides of a piece of vinyl (That is why Neil Young's Tonights the Night is such a perfect record -It is exactly 45 minutes long. No more, no less!). However, I can accept the argument about concept albums and things like 'The Wall' or 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' probably wouldn't work if they were reduced significantly. However, ignoring the concept for a moment, I could easily take tracks off both those albums and -
Grandaddy (New Jason Lytle Solo Album)
Wild Frank replied to Wild Frank's topic in Someone Else's Song
Looks like an interesting new band (a combination of Grandaddy and Earlimart) is in the offing. Looking forward to hearing some of of the fruits of their labour soon. I must admit I haven't heard anything by Earlimart so will be interesting to hear how this sounds. http://www.admiralradley.com/homenews/ -
I'm not sure how their voices would blend these days if they were to do a duet. I love Bob but the only people I want him dueting with are Tom Waits, Keith Richards or Shane McGowan. Now that would be a super-group. Sod the Wilbury's!!

My favourite is definately the 'Cherry Ghost' T-Shirt that is currently available on the website. Very cool.

There is one great song on that record: 'Touch The Night'.

I have many favourite albums but very few of them are perfect from beginning to end. My favourite album ever is Nixon by Lambchop but it has a couple of duff songs on. My very short list of perfect albums would be: Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece; Tom Waits - Rain Dogs; Neil Young - On The Beach; Neutral Milk Hotel - Aeroplane....; Micah. P Hinson...and The Opera Circuit; Miles Davis - Kind of Blue; Bob Dylan - Highway 61 Re-Visited. Thats about it.

...funny you should say that. Last year I started a thread on here about me not liking the Beatles. It got quite interesting if I recall. I'm not really in a position to say whether or not they put out a bad album but I suppose their recorded output only covered 10-15 years whereas other major artists have had 30-40 years careers. Not sure what my point is....but no, I'm not a Beatles Fan.

Yeah I'm not sure why I don't love 'Trick of the Tail'. I much prefer 'Wind and Withering' and 'And Then There Were Three..' from the same period. I totally understand where you're coming from with Neil but no matter how much of a fan I am I still can't stomach some of his output. I still buy everyone on release but some get filed away to gather dust (Everybody's Rockin, Old Ways, Life and Landing on Water especially!).

Whilst I agree that 'Live at the Greek' sounds great I just wish that both Aerosmith and Page/Jones/Bonham would just stop it. The only one with any integrity is Robert Plant who is going off pursuing different ventures instead of living off past glory's. Although, on a related point, I seem to remember that Coverdale and Page album being a lot better than it had any right to be!

In the spirit of this thread and you're love of 'Tupelo Honey' I'll give it another go tonight. Can't fault the title track and also 'Wild Night' but the other tracks haven't hit home. Now 'Veeden Fleece' on the other hand is perfect in every way.
