  1. What's the problem with the title of the record?
  2. I wasn't even aware the GD performed that. I remember hearing the Crowes play it when I was a kid, and then discovering Otis' original. That's the first time I've seen or heard this take.
  3. I'm still holding out for Sir Paul, Ringo, Pete and Roger to form The Whotles.
  4. Most Tweedy solos are composed and structured. Handshake Drugs, At Least That's What You Said, I'm the Man Who Loves You...those have sounded the same [that is, awesome] every time I've heard them live. Nels improvises far more, but it's still contained within the boundaries of a well-structured song, rather than an endless vamp of two or three chords.
  5. Similar tempo and pedal steel, that's all I heard. But I didn't think, "Hey, this sounds just like 'One by One.'" I didn't think it sounded as dreamy and subdued, but more like a Jack White country-rock song. Just my $.02.
  6. I've never really thought Jack White to be a guitar god, but I do enjoy the raw, bluesy sloppiness of some of his work in The White Stripes. He's a great garage player, but certainly no technical or melodic genius -- as a guitarist.
  7. ...a very, very loose connection at best.
  8. According to a [very fresh] TMZ report: http://www.tmz.com/2...d-heart-attack/. If it's true I'm sure there are more reports to come. Rest in peace, Dick. I'm glad I was exposed to American Bandstand as a youngster. Edit: Now ABC and the Chicago Tribune are reporting it as well.
  9. I went through a major phase in high school where nothing mattered to me but Phish, String Cheese Incident, Widespread Panic and the like. Now that I'm many years separated from that time, and have consumed quite a bit of music since then -- including Wilco -- I just don't hear how they [Wilco] could ever be considered a jam band. I just don't. That's like, my opinion, man.
  10. Similarities I hear: tempo and touches of pedal steel throughout.
  11. Wilco just opened up their vaults and found a bunch of older concert posters. They posted about it on Facebook...I'd recommend checking that too.
  12. A friend of the family has one of these that he rarely plays anymore. Got it from a high school band reunion more than 20 years ago, and its owner just never asked for it back. Has loaned it to me on occasion. I hope it'll be mine someday. Oh - and congratulations, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
  13. Yeah....I wasn't sure if there was a way to avoid the snark, but I think one would be "shortchanging" themselves by only seeking out Tweedy material among that written and sung by his mates in each of those groups.
  14. Perhaps the one I return to more than any others.
  15. Lounge Ax recording. His final performance there, January 2000. That's where I've heard it.
  16. I guess it ain't easy bein' Green [Day]... Stll don't understand how or where you're drawing this comparison
  17. Strangely enough, sometimes, but not always, the outro is something I skip. It's pretty for sure...I suppose I just have to be in the mood for it.
