  1. From Mike Nesmith on Facebook: "All the lovely people. Where do they all come from? So many lovely and heartfelt messages of condolence and sympathy, I don’t know what to say, except my sincere thank you to all. I share and appreciate your feelings. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. While it is jarring, and sometimes seems unjust, or strange, this transition we call dying and death is a constant in the mortal experience that we know almost nothing about. I am of the mind that it is a transition and I carry with me a certainty of the continuity of existence. While I don’t exa
  2. It just stuck with me because I thought it was an odd choice for a favorite "Wilco" song, even if their role is that of backing band and backing vocalists. But it is a good song. I really hope it's a full band treatment. I'd love to hear what the Wilco of 1997-1998 would've done with that song.
  3. DBoon cited "I Guess I Planted" as his favorite Wilco song, even though it's only Wilco in instrumentation only...
  4. Listening to the Wind that Blows -- excellent track. Grab it from Tweedy's last solo show at Lounge Ax. Looking forward to hearing this treatment.
  5. Check these threads: http://viachicago.org/topic/45808-former-baseball-great-dale-murphys-take-on-wilco/page__hl__beatco__fromsearch__1 http://viachicago.org/topic/46594-wilco-the-beatles/page__p__1483379__hl__beatco__fromsearch__1?do=findComment&comment=1483379
  6. Interesting! I was envisioning some sort of backpack unit with an anti-skipping device, like those old Discman units had...
  7. I'd be curious to see how you pull of listening to vinyl while jogging. You might be on to something.
  8. Usually through a stereo, either in my car or in my living room. But seriously... If it's in the former, it's full albums, straight through. In the latter, there are two ways. If it's on the turntable, it's full albums, straight through. If it's on the iPod/iPad, it's usually a shuffle of albums and official live releases. I go through phases with the live recordings, that is, the soundboard/audience recordings. I'll listen to everything I have from one period, e.g. Being There tour, AGIB tour, etc., until I've exhausted my resources, at which point I usually stop listening to Wilco for a
  9. The DVD is "Man in the Sand," the documentary about making the album. Right next to the B&N price is "Spend $25 and get free shipping," so the $34.19 would include shipping. Amazon lists it at $34.99. I wonder what Nonesuch will ask.
  10. This is how I first got into live Wilco recordings -- and a ton of other stuff: http://captainsdead.com/.
  11. That's just it -- the Owl & Bear archive's purpose is primarily live recordings and unreleased (non-commercial) material. I think they'd get in a bit of trouble if they were offering free downloads of commercially-available recordings. As the site says, "This archive was created by members of Wilco’s ViaChicago fan community to make the band’s live shows more accessible to fans. All content below has been posted in good faith, in accordance with the band’s policy: “Wilco supports the free trading of live recordings for non-commercial purposes.”
  12. Here's one of the best lip-dubs I've seen recently. A friend of mine from high school/college and her husband somehow pulled off a lip-dub vid of "Home" by Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros -- on their wedding day. The production value/quality is quite good.
  13. Well, now it's officially out there: http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/SG/Gibson-USA/Jeff-Tweedy-Signature-SG.aspx.
  14. I too have thought about this, but have never found the time. What song(s) are you considering?
  15. I'm all over that one. Looking forward to it. About 2-3x a year I'll give this one a spin. Love it.
  16. Absolutely I will. I actually enjoy a good portion of Down With Wilco. "I'm Not Bitter" is a good tune.
  17. So says one PopMatters writer who gets Wilco in the mix. "Hardly anyone is listening to rock these days. Sure, dinosaurs like the Rolling Stones remain huge draws on the road—baby boomer fans can afford the $150 ticket price to relive the old days. But the future, measured by radio play and music sold and people under the age of 30 caring about a new album by Bruce Springsteen or Wilco or The Hold Steady—the future points away from 'rock'." "Get ready, Rock. The premium in your art will shift from joy and movement to craft and a meticulous trickiness. Wilco, Radiohead, Mutemath, even The D
  18. Or - or - they could collaborate on NEW MATERIAL?
  19. Clarification: I am not much of a fan of Scott McCaughey's sort-of-in-tune-whispered background vocals on "The Family Gardener" on the Sunken Treasure DVD/soundtrack. Ruins the song for me.
  20. Confession: I am not much of a fan of Scott McCaughey.
