  1. Not everyone can be Ryan Adams.
  2. Love, love, love the the White Stripes. But I must admit I was disapointed. Kept waiting for Jack to segue into something more rockin' to bring the house down. An aural equivalent to Conan taking an axe to the set.
  3. It's great that you found someone to talk about your mutual interest in Wilco. Because of my age and the town I live in, I have nobody who knows what an awesome band they are. You wear a t-shirt out in public and you just get funny looks. Oh well, their loss!
  4. We also decided to forego the gift exchange for the adults in our family. We have only three young children in my husband's family so that will be a help. Also my husband and I have set a $50. limit on each other, just a token gift. It also makes it more challenging and creative. We have only one daughter, 22, still in school, (and living at home), so she allways gets the lion's share. As for Xmas cards, I didn't have time to do them last year because my mother got ill and had been hospitalized days before the holiday. I think I have a psychological block in that I don't want to do them
  5. So does anyone think that Dexter's discovery of Rita's hush, hush teen marriage will be explored more next season? It seemed to me that his glossing over the matter was too uncharacteristic. Maybe it was just a set-up for the whole theme of the episode: everyone has secrets. Anyhow, I thought her goody-goody demeanor wasn't genuine. I think, or hope anyways that she has some very dark secrets!
  6. Migraines suck, for sure. I get it when he says that you have to listen to your body. I've suffered with them for years. But after a while you get to know the warning signs when one is brewing and deal with it the best way you have learned how. One good thing, however, they have declined both in numbers and severity with each passing year. I heard that this happens with women around middle-age. Maybe it's a hormonal thing. I hope that the same thing will happen to you.
  7. I have not met a soul who knows who Wilco are. Then again it might be because of my age. Although there are young people in my town (as there would be in any town, duh) and nobody has shown a glimmer of recognition when I have worn a Wilco t-shirt. My daughter who is 22 doesn't have any friends into the band either. Sometimes it makes me feel smug, like it's my little secret!
  8. Next at stage for Wilco in 2005, I think was the year, at the Wiltern. Tweedy up close at the Fonda, 2006. The Dandy Warhols earlier this month at the Wiltern. All L. A. Nothing beats being able to feel the music through the vibrations of the floors as well as hearing it. The crowd at these shows were pretty cool. No pushing towards the stage if you maintained your stance and claimed your territory. On another note, In 1984 I also had the back row seat at the L.A. Colosseum. I was greatful to be in the venue at all. At the same token, I was jealous because by brother-in-law scored be
  9. For my husband's 60th this past sept., my daughter made him a dvd consisting of pictures of him from a baby until now. She included most important people and events throughout his life. It was entitled "60 years in the making". She scored it with 5 or 6 songs that he liked or grew up with. She thought it was more original than a traditional scrapebook. Well before he was finished watching it for the first time, he had tears in his eyes and admitted later that it still chokes him up upon subsequent viewings. Needless to say, it turned out really beautiful and he was very touched. Oh yeah
  10. "When the president talks to God" Bright Eyes
  11. All the way back in the 70's, I was 20 years old and had a nose job. When I awoke from surgery, my mother and my 8 years only brother were there to pick me up and take me home. I was pretty out of it, but I remember my brother asking me if I had cotton mouth. I guess I said I did. He nodded and said yeah, sorta like when you've been smoking pot. I nodded back, not understanding what he meant 'cause back then I was such a goody-two-shoes! My mom never brought up that conversation.
  12. Green Day with American Idiot in L.A. Roger Waters with DSOTM at Coachella.
  13. Perhaps they had their reception later at the Piggly-Wiggly!
  14. I go for the in memory of as well. Anything else would seem too funereal and take away from the wedding ceremony. Perhaps a short toast for your bro at the reception would be touching. As for the program, do you really need to list anything but your brother-in-laws name? Titles are over-rated. Oh, and best wishes!
