I would agree with this. But the general consensus of "experimental" seems to lean towards really weird shit on every track. In Wilco's case, it's stupid, because even YHF is a pop album in the grand scheme of things. But casual Wilco "fans" think that that one album has enough "experimental" music to justify expecting every album after it to be the craziest thing they've ever heard. It's part of why I think Wilco has a rather poor quality casual fanbase. This forum obviously shows that there are a lot of obsessive Wilco fans, who may or may not like everything, but the non-obsessive Wi

Time has been VERY kind to this album. I didn't remember it being this great. I was always a fan, but now that I'm not hearing Feel Good, Inc on the radio non-stop, this album as a whole kicks ass.

It's an interesting song to listen to, and see what IG began its life as, but I'm not a huge fan. The robot vocals at the end do nothing for me. Unfortunately, it's songs like this that lend credence to the false theory that Wilco is an experimental band. And people who believe in this are disappointed with anything that isn't "experimental," such as the new album.

I really don't see how they could play anything other than the single. As much as I'd love to see a curveball thrown, and BBN is played on national TV, it more than likely won't happen. YNK is a good song, and will probably get a few people to check the album out.

I'm liking this more and more lately. As if he needed to, Danger Mouse proved what a talent he is, no matter who/what he's producing. I'm blown away by how much each of these songs sound like tracks by the singers' bands. I've also been inspired to revisit Sparklehorse's catalogue. I had forgotten how wonderful much of it is. I'd like to see an entire DM-produced album with Linkous singing. I like his voice a lot.

I have this album on my computer, but I haven't been in the right mood to play it yet. Maybe tomorrow. I'm hearing a lot of great things about it.

Can someone please explain the Tweedy "Living Room Shows"?
Shakespeare In The Alley replied to Bart's topic in Just A Fan
As far as I'm aware, Jeff's regular solo shows are still open to being distributed. These LRS shows are special exceptions, as you've probably gathered. -

The Ruling Class has been released, as this thread is making clear. Check that album out. It's among the best things Tweedy's ever done. And Dylan amazes me at his unreleased stuff. For an example less common than Blind Willie McTell, Red River Shore is among the best songs I've ever heard, and he didn't put it on Time Out Of Mind. And my favorite band is Super Furry Animals, who have a B-side catalogue about as good as their main album catalogue. It amazes me. But this is a whole different point than what this thread is about. And a final note, regardless of whether they make a "go -

The logic behind whether or not they should be distributed really doesn't matter. Jeff wants them to be private...then that's how it should be. -
The fact that Travis is already back to his drumming style is incredible to me. The dude should have died, and his drumming is certainly not lacking energy. It doesn't really make sense. Also, I have nothing against Blink's music. It's terrific for what it is. I blast the "classics" every once in a while. It's good, fun pop-rock. Nothing wrong with that.

No, I'm referring to the fact that they are meant to be personal. I feel like I'm eavesdropping on a private event (which these are) by listening to them. I have no interest in doing so. If I was at one, I'd certainly want the show to listen to whenever, but I think it's strange to have a recording of such a personal show. I'd much rather download a legit Jeff solo show. Those are meant to be heard by a large audience. -

It's not a class system at all. These weren't regular shows. People paid good money (more than a regular Wilco/Jeff show) to get a special experience, and hang out with Jeff, more or less. Why should those be available to everyone? I understand that it's inevitable that they will, but it's not ridiculous at all for Jeff to request these shows to remain private. Considering how intimate, and personal these shows are, I don't see why they would appeal to people who wasnn't there. -
Hmm. I'm a pretty big Kinks/Ray Davies fan, so I may have to check this out. And I'm currently hardcore into British singers, so I'll give it a listen sometime.
-
How is that? I know people who rave about Doherty, but I've never check out anything of his. I feel like this album should appeal to me, though. Any good? I came back to Modern Guilt a few weeks ago, so now I'm gonna head backwards through Beck's catalogue. Simply put, the man is brilliant.

This is amazing. -
Good to see another SFA fan on this board. Those guys never cease to blow my mind. DD/LY is easily my top album this year. I've listened to it almost 70 times, beginning to end, and it sounds fresh every time. Amazing, amazing album.

Shakespeare In The Alley replied to junior five's topic in After The Show
I agree with you almost 100%. I don't think people are complaining about the show, per se, as it seems there are a lot of good reviews, as usual. Just an observation on the setlist. I've seen the band once, and if they play the same setlist I saw again in July, I'll be disappointed. The show will be great, because the band is always on their A game, but everyone goes to a concert hoping to see something rare-ish. I do agree that people who tour with the band really shouldn't complain. The band knows that 95% of their fanbase will not go to multiple shows on a tour, so they'll try to pu -

Oh yes, that's how I meant it when I said they played it safe. I don't think the guys wanted to take it easy for a night, dialing in a standard setlist. They planned it, and it was a good decision. -
Wilco Fall Tour Rumors/Dates/Cities?

They just started a tour. Are you seriously asking for the next round of dates? -

Shakespeare In The Alley replied to junior five's topic in After The Show
You have to remember that most people on this board have seen Wilco many times over the years, and have therefore seen all the "greatest hits" many times, thus diminishing their appeal. If they play that kind of setlist when I see them in July, I'll enjoy the show, but criticize the setlists for not bringing anything rare, or new. The joy of Wilco's constant touring is that they switch the setlists up so much, so if I was at a show and saw all songs I had seen before, I'd be a bit upset too. That being said, it was a festival, and it wasn't a Wilco headlining set, per se, so I'm not surp -
I thought I saw a picture of Bruce's set at Bonnaroo, and Max was on drums, not his son. Am I wrong? EDIT: Definitely Max. http://www.rollingstone.com/photos/gallery/28658721/bonnaroo_2009_shots_from_the_stag/photo/19
