I think it's plausible if they just play multiple sets per night, with intermissions. Not to invite the comparison, but isn't that how a lot of jam bands do it? Play an openers length set, then chill for an hour, than play a longer set. It's still quite physically demanding, and it'll probably never happen.

Exactly. I think if you take a "classic" song, it's hard to cover it and have it sound shity. I think it's harder to record a good version of a subpar song than to record a good version of a classic song.

I think the difference is Beck is covering whole albums. Even many unedeniable classics have a few negelcted tracks, that, while good, are never covered and raved about the way the key tracks are. I remember reading an interview Beck did with Pitchfork where he said he wanted to cover non-classic albums. This is an interesting idea, I think. The VU&Nico album wasn't much of a surprise, given Beck's connections with the VU, but a couple of the other album's he's mentioned aren't ones tha spring to mind when I think of Beck. Have you been listening to Beck's VU&Nico cover album? He's doing a fantastic job there, so don't write this off as a covers album. Yea, it's not new Wilco material, but it will be interesting to see how they work with Beck. It won't be a straighforward cover album, either. If you've heard any of the VU covers, youll know this.

Beck's VU covers have all been amazing, and I'm very interested to hear him and Wilco recording together. That being said, I've never heard this Oar album. It sounds like an interesting album, though.

From all I've seen and heard, Conor is the calmest and happiest he's been in his career. His earlier Bright Eyes recordings versus the latest MVB record? He's definitely calmed down. I don't think I'd consider him 'troubled" anymore.

I watched the webcast of the Lips show. The crowd appeared to be shitty beyond belief. They really only reacted to "Do You Realize." Fucking hipsters...

My current favorite SFA disc. "Fire In My Heart" is just gorgeous.

I like that line a lot, but you have to include "that isn't true" as well. I love the way he throws that out there, changing the meaning of the line.

That's exactly what I hate about it. The Kinks never really had particularly amazing album covers, but they always fit with the album. This one just...does nothing. It doesn't make sense, and it isn't visually appealing. It just screams "cheap romance book." Ray's writing does not scream that at all.

It's no Village Green, but I'm a fan of the album itself. That being said, I passionately hate that cover art.

I've never really paid much attention to Meg, so I'm not one to comment, but in this picture, at that angle, with that shirt, that is a large breast.

I didn't think Wilco was at a " place of critical mass at where they can seemingly do no wrong." SBS was not exactly rapturously received, and WTA is getting a lot of good reviews, but it isn't being universally hailed as perfection.

I like Wilco (The Song) a lot, but it doesn't belong on this list. It's a fun pop song, in every sense of the word, but it doesn't belong up there with Jeff's absolute masterpieces. I think this guy will go for something bold, and number one won't be Ashes or Jesus. And I'm going to go ahead and call HMD as a top five song. THAT will incite a riot here.

I think the infamous Jarvis incident is enough evidence that Michael clearly tried to be some sort of Jesus figure. Say what you will about what Jarvis did (I think it was hilarious) but you cannot possibly watch that performance and not notice Michael basically trying to be Christ.

Found this at a record store for $3. Being a large Blur fan, and a fan of Graham's Blur songs, I picked it up. It's not what I expected, but pretty good nonetheless.

I think it's pretty obvious that no one expects the same kind of show from Dylan and Wilco. A Wilco show has a group of guys playing at the absolute peak of their abilities. A Dylan show has one of the greatest musical artists ever, alive or dead, doing whatever the fuck he wants to do. I'd highly recommend both to any fan of music. Just don't expect beginning to end brilliance from Dylan every night.

I didn't find that Pepsi footage any harder to watch now that he's dead. It's still pretty funny to me how it took a while for anyone, including Michael, to realize his head was on fire. Plus the fact that it just brings up the old "you play with fire, you might get burned" cliche. If you're putting yourself in an intricately timed situation with pyrotechnics, shit could very easily go wrong. I see the painkiller/surgery connection here, but I'm not looking forward to every little thing in his career being reevaluated in the context of MJ dying.
