    LeRoy Bach

A friend and I were having a long, drunk, late-night conversation on Saturday when the subject of LeRoy Bach came up. I feel a little tabloidy for asking when it really isn't all that important, but does anybody know the real reason why he is no longer in the band? Just want to settle a dispute. Thank a lot!
  2. Hilarious! Nice connection...I wish I had thought of that. At the same time, now I'm getting twitchy about the new direction that wasn't the original direction from the previous direction. I'm thinking more pyrotechnics and face paint.
  3. To me, this show has promise to be one of my favorites. I may be an idiot, but that show had me crying I was laughing so hard. The part where while he's trying to put the moves on the busty teacher, he asks how much will she give him if he slam dunks his lunch tray in the garbage can...I love this guy. This is the only comedy show on TV, besides It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, 30 Rock and occasionally Flight of the Conchords, that really get a good chuckle out of me.
  4. How about a Mr. Bungle Reunion? That debut album may have been a large contributor to at least two teenage arrests... I love that album.
  5. That is one impressive site. Thanks for passing it along.
  6. I hope this is not blasphemy, but it is Dylan, so I hope I will be forgiven. After the discussion on Simple Twist of Fate, I've been looking around for a good tab for Tangled Up in Blue. Does anybody have one that they play that they can share? Also, is that played on a 12-string on the studio version? Travis Picked? The sound of that song has me mesmerized.
  7. That would be awesome if they covered that song! Dr. Hook rocks (yeah, I said it). Normally, overdubs are the rule in studio work, not the exception. SBS was the exception. Playing live together in the same room for a studio record is a rare happening. I wouldn't worry about Nels and Mike's feelings being hurt, I'm sure they are more than fine with it, and were busy with their side projects at the time, so it may a have almost been a bit disrespectful to try to force them out to New Zealand to record. Plus, they do, and will continue to spend A LOT of time together touring...I'm sure
  8. Yeah they did. They had 1 poster option with two price points. $15 for the poster itself, or $20 for a poster signed by Jeff...duh . Man, those were great shows.
  9. Great song, indeed. Thanks for having the courage to share your struggles with us. Good luck and God bless on your quest for sobriety. Please let us know how you are doing in the future.
  10. NICE CATCH!!! I can't wait. I'm sure it is "sick" ...they all have been. My only concern is that being a long time subscriber to RS...they seem to be going in the "anything done by anybody of any band that has any clout gets at least 4 stars". Economically, they seem to be struggling like most print media these days in the changing mass media environment, along with the struggles at the record companies, and are grasping at straws to find a solid identity again. Anybody that reads it regularly will most likely agree with me on that (not speaking for the masses, of course). They recently
  11. Yeah...I've been playing it in standard (capo 2) up against the I'm Not There version and it seems to be spot on. Although, I think that the recorded version was capo 1, but when I saw it live it was capo 2...but whatever. The part that I was having trouble with, or that I couldn't get to sound right, was that D chord in the C (9?) shape up the neck on the "Simple Twist of Fate" line in the song. That was it. Played it earlier in the open D capo 2...that sounds great too, and accurate...more melancholy for sure. Thanks for the help.
  12. You're right. I have seen him play that one...I think...is that the one with the flower pattern on the pick guard? If so, I have seen him play that one. And if I'm not mistaken, that one, or another one that he has that is similar, is an Epiphone from his Uncle Tupelo days.
  13. Yeah, I can't accurately speak to the setting of a neck, but you're probably right...that doesn't sound like the right solution to me either. Some sort of specialty wood glue would probably be what a luthier would use. But when it comes to repairing slight cracks in the top of vintage instruments that is what Martin suggests. This was a Martin-approved guitar repairman. He is only one of two guys in the entire state of Illinois Martin endorses. And he job he did on HD-28 is top notch.
  14. I can help with this one a little, I think. I purchased myself a lovely Christmas present this year. I bought a Martin HD-28 from my local shop. They had two there. One in mint condition for like $2500 or something like that...and the other with a hairline crack from the middle/bottom of the bridge to the base of the guitar (from what I understand is the most common place for a humidity-related crack) that had been repaired, but not a real pro job. This guitar was selling for $1199.00...which I thought was crazy, and the guitar must not sound very good. I spent hours in there playing bot
  15. To me, it looks like a 0-18, but what do I know. I'm not sure of how pre-war Martin body styles differed from post-war body styles, or if they did at all, but if they have remained the same over the years, I think it is 0-18 just because of how small it is. The 00 body style just may be too big still...that is just my guess. It looks a lot like the 00 pic, but my guess it is a 0 body style like the one for sale in previous post. But like I said your guess is as good as mine... This is how I deduced this, please take it for what it is worth: as far as I know, most guitar body styles, not
  16. This may be what I saw him do live in Chicago. While the open D sounds like the Dylan version. Because I'm pretty sure that he didn't change tuning on his pre-war Martin that he was playing. In fact, that is what he did...the C shape up the neck...I'm self-taught and am light on the theory, I just play be ear and eye...I have never seen this done...this is a first for me on the C shape further up the neck...but that is the part of the song that was throwing me for a loop. Thanks a lot, all of you have been very helpful.
  17. I'm thinking that tuning might be the answer. From seeing it originally, I thought it was played in standard, but that may be why I've had so much trouble nailing it down. Thanks for the help. You got it...Martin HD28V...she's been good to me.
  18. Boy, you fellers are on top of things...thanks! Looks like I'm not alone in having trouble with this one. Thanks again!
  19. Alright, here is a longshot. I was at the two shows on Feb 13th and 14th at the Vic where he played Simple Twist of Fate both nights...one of the highlights of both nights. Has anybody seen this live and tried to figure out the chords/tab for it. It sounds different than the soundtrack version, for one, simply because he puts a capo on the second fret...I think, but some of the chords are different than the recorded version as well...I think. I found a chorded out version of the song on Ultimate Guitar Archive, and it is close, but I am a bit of a perfectionist and cannot seem to nail it d
  20. Back to M*A*S*H...although I grew up with the show, and liked what I saw (even with my father's uncomfortable twitchiness with Jamie Farr's character), I never became a "fan", BUT MANY people did...in fact, it's a good show...and I believe that the final episode in '82 or '83 may have been the most ever viewed TV series episode ever in the history of television. There should be no piling on of anyone who likes M*A*S*H. It's like jumping on someone who likes "Cheers". It's harmless all-American entertaiment. I don't know why I felt like posting this, but...there you go. I'm going to take a
  21. This is a fun subject...However, I think I have a satisfying solution to the nostalgia. Jay Bennett, Ken Coomer, Max Johnston, Bob Egan, and LeRoy Bach along with long-out-of-work tequila swiller Sammy Hagar can collaborate and emerge as the new Wilco spinoff sensation "Wyl Cogh". They can then pool their resources, with a little help from the Cabo Wabo Foundation, and purchase and re-open the Lounge Ax under the similar although less creative, but copyright law unobtrusive, "Lounge Acts". They can then compose set lists and perform only, and I mean ONLY, songs from AM, Being There, Summ
  22. Thak you for the quick reply. Really nice sounding guitar. Now I know why...maybe I can pick one up for less than 5 digits
  23. Someone posted in another forum a question I have been wondering as well. Does anybody know the small 0 or parlor guitar (not sure which) that Jeff always plays solo and with the band. It has an light aged-look to it and a slotted headstock. He played it nearly exclusively at the last two Vic solo shows and heavily in Urbana as well. It is not his signature model, that is larger...a 000 I think...and has a very light natural top. It is MUCH smaller than all of the rest of his guitars that he normally plays.
  24. I was wondering the same thing about that guitar. He"s been playing it for years, but not for sure on the make/model. I was thinking it was a Martin 0 slotted headstock model, but not sure. He does play Breedlove, and two of the guitars on the stage were Breedloves. The one he used for the Wilco Song is his own signature model and the other 00 model, the second smallest besides the one he favored both nights, is a Breedlove as well. There was a Martin Dreadnaught (sp?) 12 string that he didn't play and a Gibson Sunburst Dreadnaught as well...but that one...not sure. I'd like to know as w
  25. I know on disc 2 of IATTBYH, he uses a pick to play this song, which I find to be much more difficult than fingerpicking it...I don't use picks very much. The last couple of times I've seen this played he hasn't used a pick, just his thumb and index finger strumming pattern like on Remember the Mountain Bed and Satan, Your Kingdom Must Come Down...along with others. I found that once I learned this strum, which I must say is awkward to me, after a bit of practice, it opened up a lot of Tweedy's songs to me...mostly his solo stuff. I have fat fingers too...try this (it works for me) for t
