they should stick to music. that article says you get a cassette of previously unreleased music - that sounds interesting. i've even still got a cassette player, but i don't want those shoes.

i'm not that much of a fan of the baby huey album, it's ok, but it's a little lacking in depth - or something - it just doesn't have whatever a great album needs to make you keep going back to it. now that this is all soul, funk etc... music, i'm gonna add this alice clark - it's a fantastic album

actually, i just checked and it's the percy sledge version in "this is england" louieb is right, there are lots of versions of this song!

i don't think anything even comes close to his version. the flying burrito bros version is great, in its own way, but this beats it. if you've seen This Is England, they actually play it in that - just before the ending.

yeah, james carr is fantastic, you're both right! both those albums are essential southern soul albums, i'd suggest getting "got my mind messed up" first, but really you need both. you know, the one deep soul/southern soul album i would recommend to anyone who likes this stuff is "i'm a loser" by doris duke. i know gtrplyr has got it, but maybe you should check that out poptodd as i think you'll like it.

i'm sure you'll love it. basically, another bit of advice would be anything leslie kong produced is worth getting. i've just found this list online for you: leslie kong productions actually that list is pretty incomplete you've already got jimmy cliff, and probably know desmond dekker and the aces, but the other one i'd say get is best of the wailers forget about what you think bob marley and the wailers sound like, this is before the reggae days. it's a brilliant album edit. also another one to look out for from leslie king is ken boothe. you might find actually getting a compilation of t

actually i just looked for them on amazon, and here ya go . . . monkey man (with bonus tracks) get this one if you're choosing between the two. the bonus tracks have "sweet and dandy", "monkey girl" (which is my fav song they've done), "bam bam", and well actually all the bonus tracks are fantastic. the actual main album is also slightly better than "from the roots" and you do get a few cross-overs of songs, although different versions. from the roots (with bonus tracks) actually both are quite cheap - so get them both! i am sure when these are sold out they'll be a fortune to buy second han

Yeah, it's a great album. Easily as good as the those two you've got. I'd suggest you get either this or Monkey Man, and make sure you get the Trojan Reissues, because they've got loads of bonus tracks that are hard to find anywhere else. I mean, if you want i can do you a little mix of the best tracks from them both, if you want to hear what they are like. The only other one I'd say get is Sweet And Dandy, but I haven't got that one myself - it's really hard to get hold of, so if you do see it, grab it! Let me know if you want that mix

what are you talking about? you said "what makes you think that Neil makes music for his fan base?" and i said because he releases it. what has talking about outsiders got to do with anything - they too release it for their fan base. i think you're having your own inner argument here or something. he releases music for his fan base. that is not the same as saying when he is recording it he's thinking, "hmmm, now what would my fans want me to record next?" i've got a funny feeling this post is not going to solve things . . .

i think the fact that he releases this stuff makes it pretty clear he's doing it for his fan base. who do you think he's releasing it for, then? like i said in my first post in this thread, i personally wish he would keep this kind of stuff to himself, but he obviously thinks someone wants to listen to it.

whilst i think neil young's songs are pretty weak, and some terrible, on this new album, i actually think the worst thing is daniel lanois's production. it sounds so dated to me - if i didn't know it, i'd have thought this album was from the early 90s or recorded on a laptop in someone's bedroom by an old man who thinks they are being up-to-date and interesting, but in reality hasn't listened to progressive music for the last 20 years. as for the last good neil young album, i'd probably say rust never sleeps. he's made interesting albums since then, but nothing i'd care to get punched in the

obviously, the other 3 are fantastic, but it's worth mentioning how great the new deerhunter is! good stuff.

i thought what he is saying is that the lyrics written on paper aren't very good, but when they are sung and put to music they work.

i'm affraid i did. well, not low-bitrate, but it was mp3. he recorded her voice ok, i just have a problem with everything else.
