  1. no not yet. i was just pointing out that someone saying something is trying too hard to be smart is not actually the same as saying they prefer "anti-intellectual" things instead. i did toy with going to see it, but now i've read beltmann's view, it does seem like it's not my cup of tea: "Well, I'm not sure how "smart" Inception is beyond its ingenious construction--it flatters the audience by saying, "See, I knew you could keep up!," but it doesn't really give the audience much to chew on in terms of deeper ideas. That's not intended as criticism; after all, the movie is designed as
  2. trying too hard to be smart and actually being smart are two different things.
  3. yeah but that definition is just to you, my definition of flawless might be different (but equally valid) altogther
  4. exactly what are we talking about here with flawless? if it's just liking ever song on an album then i can name hundreds of albums. it would be easier to name albums i really like that have a song or two i don't like on them. actual albums i think are flawless are Pet Sounds & Ys - with those 2 it's like every note has been thought out and put in the right place, for better or for worse. neither are my favourite albums ever, but they're the only 2 i can think of at the moment that are flawless.
  5. i don't mind analysing films. memento has that about it, and i liked it, but then blade runner has that element about it too - and i don't like that film (even though i can certainly see it's a brilliantly made film, i just don't like watching it). i don't know what i am trying to say here, actually. i guess i'll just have to see it to make my mind up!
  6. I just read all those spoilers! muahh ha ha! I don't think i'd like this film, it all sounds a bit like you're all talking about Lost or the Matrix or something. Am i right in thinking that, or is it just the way you're all describing it?
  7. i briefly skimmed through a review of it in the sunday papers, and the review didn't give it a good write-up. the jist of the review was that concidering it concerned dreams - it was amazing how predictable and undream-like it all was. anyway, is it as good as dreamscape? baring in mind dreamscape has got max von sydow & dennis quad (when dennis quad was really good) in it, and inception has got leonardo dicaprio.
  8. yeah, in 1991. i actually saw it once for only a few pounds and didn't buy it - which is madness - it's worth a fair bit now. http://www.amazon.co...79468633&sr=8-1 there ya go - just to prove it did come out. i think all this, and the fact that it is even available for download on itunes, makes it strange why it's the only cd of his out of print.
  9. well it was actually released on cd, it's just out of print. which means it's not just a case of them doing it to piss dylan off, unless they wanted to piss him off twice - once when it first came out and again when it was issued on cd. it's also available on itunes - and is linked from there on his official website - so it just makes no sense why it's not on cd.
  10. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1250207/Marriage-rates-drop-lowest-level-1862.html i was talking about the uk.
  11. the sacd and the normal remasters came out at the same time. i too had just the old versions for ages, but i recently forked out for the remasters. they really sound fantastic i'd recommend picking at least a few of them up. i've got all the cassettes too! my brother gave them to me, and they're somewhere in the back of a cupboard.
  12. anal sects. sorry. you crazy americans and your intolerances always make me laugh. it's funny, actually, because a lot of couples i know (straight couples, the only gay couple i know is one of my uncles and i don't talk to him about marriage), don't really want to get married any more. i know quite a few who have children and have been together for many years, but don't feel the need to get married, so i thought there was a shift away from the whole marriage thing anyway. also, i think in the uk gay couples can get married in a church, but aren't allowed to have the same christian service - a
  13. yeah, that's only 15, or something, of his albums. they released his debut later on, after they did this, and then also before the flood/new morning/the basement tapes, and maybe a couple of others i can't remember at the moment, later on. the trouble is those later ones don't even match the design of the original remasters. self portrait would also be a nice remaster in the future. i think Dylan the album not being out of print will happen eventually - cos he's gonna die eventually. i don't even know what his problem with it is, it's got a couple of fantastic songs on it - which is somethin
  14. not all of them. actually the new morning remaster is a bit annoying because it's a digipak - so it doesn't match the older remastered cd's from a few years before. talking of Dylan, i'd like to see Dylan by Bob Dylan remastered - that'd be fantastic!
  15. that has been remastered! very recently, actually, along with the basement tapes.
  16. actually the fact they did Born To Run and are next doing Darkness really annoys me. what's the reason for ignoring the first 2? also, has anyone else heard the bruce springsteen japanese cds? they came out in 2005 - they aren't actually remastered, but like all things japanese the transfer from analogue to digital has been done far better. i think they used a better master tape or something, and better equipment. anyway, they sound a lot better.
  17. people need to stop posting about things that have already happened!

  19. oh, i've got another two. Van Morrison! they started this, then i think he fell out with his label and the rest never came out. so Saint Dominic's Preview & Hardnose The Highway (and a couple of other ones that i didn't care about) never came out. also Astral Weeks & Moondance need remastering too. then there is The Bee Gees - they remastered the first 4 and did a fantastic job with the sound, bonus tracks etc... but they seem to have stopped. i thought they were doing them all in order, but who knows?! the cd's i've got are remastered, and sound ok. why aren't you happy with th
  20. i was just listening to Otis Blue (the remastered deluxe edition thingy), and i was thinking why on earth haven't Otis Redding's other albums been given this treatment, or even remastered properly. then i started thinking who else's albums need remastering, and this is a few i came up with: 1 otis redding (like i said, i'd love all his albums to sound as vibrant and fresh as otis blue does now) 2 prince (i've got mp3's of the recent japanese editions - which sound 1 million times better than my old cd's, but they aren't actually remastered from the analog tapes - so a proper remaster would
  21. actually i forgot to mention caribou. it's a really good album too. i think i prefer andorra (so it's a bit like how i feel with beach house), but it's still really good stuff.
  22. oi! i thought i posted about the album in the now playing thread! how quickly they forget.
  23. oh, alright i give! i think i've had this, or a very similar, argument on this site a number of times before and it never got me anywhere. i;m just back here doing it again!
  24. relevant to my argument, damn it! no, i mean relevant to the development of music. the size of sales, venue size, radio play means nothing - otherwise they've never really been relevant at all. in "don't look back" bob dylan says, they talk about music in terms of "is he saying something?" or whatever he says. that's what i mean. if they are saying something now, i can probably think of a whole bunch of people that are saying it better. you know if you want to think they are as relevant now, or more so; fair enough. i can't see people looking back on this year in 20 years time and menti
