the music. it's just that modern take on late 60s soul music which sounds nothing like late 60s soul music. np.

me too. it's alright - sounds like beck's last album to me (which was alright too) or amy winehouse at times, musically - i was expecting some cool deep soul cuts though, and that really didn't happen.

you've gotta be pretty careful when you pick up toots & the maytal albums. there are loads with the same names. the most famous one is "funky kingston" with that colourful painted cover, which is a mixture of "funky kingston" and "in the dark" tracks. that album you've mentioned there looks fine - it looks like it contains all the tracks from both albums. the other 2 albums which are essential are "sweet and dandy" & "monkey man" - these are harder to find at a reasonable price, and there are also shitty compilations with the same names. but, if you get the real albums, they're equal -

If you can get hold of the doc "Roots Rock Reggae" by Jeremy Marre it'll be worth seeing. It includes this clip of Lee Perry, Junior Murvin & The Heptones recording this made up song for the documentary: -
what's the track list?
-
yeah, it's great. i really wish they'd do a bootleg series from that period. there are loads of songs unreleased, even if most of them are covers.

yeah, i agree about mp3 - or at least, paying for them. i'm gonna search the internet to see if i can find the remastered version - cos i do think the vintage cd sounds very thin.
-
i haven't heard the sundazed remasters, but i'd like to. it is better than nothing though. at least the tracks are in order - so you can listen to it normally. it's still cheap on amazon in the uk - and it only takes a week for me when i order stuff from america to the uk, so i assume it'd be the same the other way round. apparently the tracks on vintage are remastered by sundazed, did they do it again then for the newer cds?
-
this cd contains all of the first album, plus a lot of the second and third. here it's probably the only way to get a reasonably priced first album now. however, for some reason, you can still buy all the albums in mp3 format. seems a bit weird, cos of the legal problems, but you can.

i think the secret to panther's success is that he writes his reviews in spanish, then bablefish's them into russian, before finally transtlating them into english. it's quite an interesting way of working. oh, i didn't come in here just to post that crap, i also came to say you can stream a concert from her new tour (Washington) - here setlist: 01 '81 02 Kingfisher 03 The Book of Right-On 04 Easy 05 Soft As Chalk 06 Inflammatory Writ! 07 Good Intentions Paving Company 08 Have One On Me 09 You and Me, Bess 10 Monkey and Bear 11 Baby Birch

actually after watching that The Mama Papa video, i think i might hold off finding the album. that sounds like an entirely different, not very good, band. does all the album sound like that solace?
-
ohhh, i didn't know they had a new album that's leaked. i'm gonna go searching for that! this afternoon i'm making it a soul session (until i find plants and animals)

the outtake "Greenback Dollar" is great, but that's a bit like Roses Bloom, in that it's not exactly a Guthrie song.

This is true, but Hoodoo Voodoo is pretty much the same song as 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 from this album here (you can check out a little clip of it - basically it's the same song, about as basically as Woody Guthrie singing the same lyrics to his songs gets, anyway)
