if we (england) and the usa are equal after goal difference then england go through, as we have a higher fifa ranking.

Song titles with FULL proper names in them
Synthesizer Patel replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
actually isn't that a spelling error, as his name was John Wesley Hardin. although i am sure someone somewhere is called John Wesley Harding. -
ha ha. ok. however, having read more about jesse owens, and how he was treated by the american government, i think you'd have had to root for some other country other than yourselves, wouldn't you?
-
actually i just wikipediaed jesse owens (yeah i know, but still!). "Owens was cheered enthusiastically by 110,000 people in Berlin's Olympic Stadium, on the street, Germans sought his autograph. Owens was allowed to travel with and stay in the same hotels as whites, while at the time blacks in many parts of the United States were denied equal rights. After a New York City ticker-tape parade o Fifth Avenue in his honor, Owens had to ride the freight elevator at the Waldorf-Astoria to reach the reception honoring him.[4] Owens said, "Hitler didn't snub me—it was FDR who snubbed me. that's the wrong way round again. that's political figures influencing sport - and the german people didn't actually have a problem with him, it was hitler - and more for the fact that the germans didn't win. i don't think he acknowledged anyone winning unless it was a german . it wasn't the german athletes themselves, nor really the average person who was to blame in that situation.

yep - they can go on the list too. and portugal - for ronaldo - he's got enough cheating in him to equal any cheating team. the countries with military dictatorships etc... always seem to be very well behaved! it's probably that threat of being shot when you get home that makes them play like that.
-
they aren't really a bad side. obviously nobody is just going to roll over after getting to this stage, anyway, and also brazil aren't going to give 100% either - they need to pace themselves (like all winning teams) to save something for the later games. also, uncool2pillow, don't go hating the north korean football team - they've done nothing wrong. it's italy & argentina you need to hate (from a footballing point of view) as they are appalling cheats!

i think we both deserved a draw. a 0-0 draw. america never really looked like scoring, apart from once (and i'm not talking about the goal - which can't be classed as a proper goal scoring chance, merely a goal keeping error) and the same really goes for england too. unfortunately, i've also got a feeling it's going to be england and slovenia (Bjorn, it's slovenia, not slovakia - they're in another group) that go through.

i did my list last time, and will this time, based on the albums I LIKE THE BEST, not on the best albums. otherwise i'd have chosen Pet Sounds, as it's the most perfect album ever made. however, if i want to listen to the beach boys i nearly always grab Holland instead - which is why that was in my list last year and Pet Sounds wasn't. anyway, that's how i'm doing my list - i might think some of them are the best albums ever made and i might think some of them aren't, but all of them will be 50 of my favourite albums of all time.

i don't like Planet Wave! it just doesn't work for me. actually, it sounds like Cahoots by The Band (in terms of the production of the music), which i think is a hell of a lot better. i'd put it as his worst album; until the 1980s, that is. np.

go on, make it 50. that 563 figure from 58 people shows why 20 votes for a top 100 doesn't work to show a fair representation of what those 58 people like. this is because 3 people might vote sgt pepper, for example, at number 20 - and yet it ends up being no.1 simply because all the other votes are spread out. (that's an extreme example, i know) one thing i forgot to say is that if it's 20 again then my list stays the same. which is a bit boring, and the list is more likely to be different (unless loads of new people vote) if there are more votes per person.

Who shall win the World Cup?
Synthesizer Patel replied to bjorn_skurj's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
germany looked good tonight. i think they might go pretty far. my money is on spain - it has been on spain for the last 4 world cups, because i always like their style of football, but maybe this time they'll actually do it. of course, this is my vote only after england get knocked out - if, i said IF! -
can't it be 100 choices, or at least 50? surely everyone can think of that many, and it'll mean there won't just be a list of beatles & bob dylan albums. although, i assume it might result it it being harder to work out the votes. or maybe not, you just do 100 points for no.1 down to 1 point for no. 100

'music industry is on the brink of collapse'
Synthesizer Patel replied to Moss's topic in Someone Else's Song
i don't think it'll collapse that quickly, if at all, but if it does i do agree with this bit: "(It will be) no great loss to the world." - thom yorke -
yeah, i can't imagine they'd be that good live. np.
-
yeah, it's really good. each song is about 5 songs put together. i don't know if you know any of his older stuff, but this is basically the same thing with better production ( i know this is still pretty lo-fi, but his other stuff is bedroom recording music). so if you liked that song i posted, i'd say get into this album, then have a check out of his older music.

i've always enjoyed Cars Are Cars by Paul Simon

PIxies cancel Israel concert after deadly Gaza raid
Synthesizer Patel replied to Chinese Apple's topic in Someone Else's Song
'dog bites man' isn't a story. wake me up when israel boycotts the pixies. -
i've been listening to that quite a bit since it leaked too. pitchfork gave it a 9.0, which i think is a little bit high; but it's certainly one of the better albums i've heard this year. one of the best songs this year - (from the album)

when i was at university (this was in the uk, as that is where i'm from) i lived in an area that was predominantly asian, and we used to go for meals out to a curry house quite often. what would happen is that we'd walk into the place and they'd look you over a bit - and say "students?" we'd say "erm, yes" (thinking they'd kick us out). then they'd smile and say "excellent - we have special room upstairs for you, with special menu. very cheap menu! very cheap!" so e'd be ushered upstairs to this special room, away from the nice looking decor downstairs. and you'd get a £5 menu mix - plus 1 fre
