  1. It's a download from online, but I will get it when it comes down in price a bit (just the single disc - not that interested in hearing Jagger sing over old songs - because it just makes me wish he'd shut up and let the music play, based on how i've felt listening to "plundered my soul"). As for the sound - it really is a massive improvement on the old cd, there is so much more depth and detail, but it still sounds the same in terms of the feel - like i've cleaned my ears out.
  2. yeah. i don't even think the stones were the first people to have a hit with it either. i'm actually listening to the remastered version of Exile at the moment - it's sounds great!
  3. bit of a cheek making out that It's All Over Now by Bobby Womack is a cover of a Stones song
  4. sorry, it's just the name of a song by the bonzo dog band - i wasn't really making any comment on what you said. just being silly.
  5. eek. ok. but, i'd just say in that situation that i thought it was really good. you'd have to be talking in terms of years for it to have "staying power" they were on tv last night, actually - on the jools holland show (in the uk) along with the national. i don't know if you can get that on any of your channels in the usa, but the proper show is friday night (the tuesday night show is live, but only 30 mins, whereas the friday is recorded but 1 hour). np.
  6. that would be very nice indeed. the only thing i can think that i am actually interested in hearing is Tomboy by Panda Bear, but i'm sure a few good things will show up before and after that.
  7. lol, i missed that until moss quoted it. i once heard someone say on a newsnight review show (when reviewing ys by joanna newsom) - "i absolutely loved it! i played it 3 times!" without any sense of irony. did you mean that to be funny or not? NP.
  8. 01 The Life Aquatic 02 Rushmore 03 The Royal Tenenbaums 04 Fantatic Mr Fox 05 Darjeeling Limited 06 Bottle Rocket Bottle Rocket has some of my favourite moments, but I often I find I get a little bored during the middle of the film.
  9. Newsom was the best thing on it since the last time she was on it. Unless they get old legends on the show, I think the show is pretty boring most of the time. I don't really think that much of Mumford & Sons - they are ok, but really the type of band I'd expect to see on the show. NP.
  10. whilst they are shit musically, and very camp - they're actually fairly likeable, especially when i've seen them on tv not doing music. back to the poll: u2 are shitter than nickleback, surely? they're that bad i think they need to be studied by science - they've gotta hold some answers on antimatter.
  11. i don't dislike the disco stuff. i just mark it as the cut-off point from the stuff i love and the stuff that i think is ok. she's on jools holland (bbc2 - british tv) tomorrow night.
  12. rhino were supposed to be releasing this, along with a couple of the other albums - that came out after Odessa - the same way as they did with the first few albums (2 cds - 1 with mono and stereo versions of the album, and the second disc with b-sides and outtakes etc...) but, i've got a feeling the whole project has gone tits-up. which is a massive shame as they are fantastic albums.
  13. i really like it. it was a tv film too. i don't know how much you know about the bee gees, but it's kind of like Odessa, Two Years On & Trafalgar - some quite big, well orchestrated, ballads - a few . . . oh, actually i'll just search youtube, and see if they have any clips. i think it's fantastic, but i really really love the early bee gees (up until they went disco). i'll post them if i find something.
  14. has this been out in america yet, and has anyone seen it? the trailer and clips look really really funny, but perhaps it's very english humour. anyway - what do people think? clip Talking about how one of the characters disguised his voice differently every time he went and bought bleach in the same shop: "IRA Voice! What D'Ya Wanna Do That For. We're Terrorists! You'll Get Us All Nicked!" "I'll be disguised though . . ." "Yeah, but as a TERRORIST!"
  15. I think in many ways they are one of the greatest bands ever, because they are an out and out right comedy act - but the songs hold up after repeated listens as much as any other great band - so the listener continues laughing even though they've heard it a million times before. Anyway, they always bring a smile to my face. All these videos on youtube, by the way, are from a kids tv show - which they did the music for and most of the monty python crew did the sketches. Bloody 60s kids were spoiled rotten!
  16. i actually thought the video was a great mix of humour and a few shocks (when the young kid got shot in the head was a bit jolting). it reminded me of something chris morris might do (who is a british satarist edit: he's got a film out real soon called which looks really really brilliant). i started off thinking, oh no - this is just the same old moaning at US foreign policy kind of video, and then as soon as the kid got on the bus i burst out laughing. the song's alright, but she's done better - although i have only listened once - it is a nice change of style, though.
  17. here's mine too then, if nobody is captaining this thread any more. All Lift Your Voice, and Rejoice 01 asforteri - caravan 02 soulful old man sunshine - the beach boys 03 treeton - fang island 04 whadaya want - the coasters 05 born again cretin - robert wyatt 06 chikondi - the very best 07 i'm chief kamanawanalea (we're the royal macadamia nuts) - the turtles 08 it's you - toots and the maytals 09 curly locks - lee scratch perry 10 du ronda - lou christie 11 safer - animal collective the theme of the mix, if you can't guess, is that all the tracks have interesting vocals. sometimes more
  18. when i said "60's soul music, which sounds nothing like 60's soul music" or whatever i said - i was kind of quoting how people talk about that sound, and then the second part (the sounding nothing like 60s soul music part) is my personal opinion on that notion. does that make sense? i only mentioned danger mouse again due to the fact it sounds like his work or any of those other people i mentioned, i wasn't trying to say mark ronson & amy winehouse worked on the album, either. np.
  19. The Rolling Stones didn't take long to go beyond their influences, though. Also, they wrote incredibly good songs - even the ones that aped older styles (which is totally fine, by the way - when it's done well). The Black Keys write "ok" to "good" songs, they aren't gonna make you wet or anything, let's be honest. If I had to describe the album, i'd not mention soul in any way at all, as I wouldn't call any of it soul or soul influenced. The songs are essentially the same as all their other albums, but the production has changed to sound like whatever that Amy Winehouse/Danger Mouse/Mark Ron
