  1. it's my favourite of his albums. really it's the only one, besides I Stand Alone that is good all the way through.
  2. Seperado! Should be a soundtrack with this. Also, he's recording a solo album at the moment, and SFA have a new one out this year too, apparently.
  3. I began this ages and ages ago when this forum was going to do a cover's cd. But, it never happened, and i couldn't be arsed to finish it. It's only the very basic track - and i mean basic (drums, some synths, a tiny bit of percussion) It was going to be pretty layered up with sounds if I'd bothered finishing it and the vocal melody I came up with, but never recorded was a bit weird too. Imagine all that stuff on top of this, and you'll love it! Oh, it's a cover of I'm A Wheel. And i uploaded to youtube just now, for anyone to look at - with a pic of the general lee flying through the air, f
  4. oh, yeah - i heard about that happening, but then forgot to search for it online. thanks. actually, soft as chalk is one of my favourites from the album. watching her live on the piano, and also having seen lots of other performers i really like, i've come to the conclusion that it is essential to pull weird faces in order to sound really good. it's not only ray charles that did it. they all do it. this is the sort of thing they should be teaching the kids on x-factor. forget the hand movements. it's all about pulling stupid faces.
  5. i haven't actually listened to anything else since it was released
  6. my old dentist when i was a kid was arrested for something to do with pedophillia, i've always felt slightly let down that he never tried it on with me. he did a good job straightening my teeth up, though. that is a true story. this however, is a joke: pedophile questioned
  7. the thing is, that having listened to it a couple of times, there isn't a duff song on the whole thing. some of it, actually most of it, is just incredible. side note: jim o'rourke apparently mixed 1/3 of the tracks. take note wilco!
  8. I saw you were playing Santa Barbara Honeymoon too, recently. You got them on cd? Cos if not, you're missing the bonus film which you get with this album. There comes a time/Fresh as a sweet sunday morning Travelling man One for Jo thank 'eaven for youtube (. . . .and little girls)
  9. I didn't get that until you said, "well played." I assume it's in reference to what I said about the production of the last wilco album, right?
  10. I never knew so many people didn't like Wilco (The Album) - I don't feel so alone any more! I don't like Planet Waves by Bob Dylan, but love everything else up until the 1980s. I include Self Portrait & Dylan in that - both of which I really like, I just don't like the sound of Planet Waves or something. Oh, actually I forgot The Times They're A-Changin' - I don't like that either. Can i have 2? Wild Frank - how can you not like Tupelo Honey? I suggest you listen to Moonshine Whiskey a few times in a row. I mean, it's not as great as Moondance, St. Dominic's Preview or Veedon Fleece, b
  11. Good Intentions Paving Company was streaming on drag city (i don't know if it's still there). It is very very good! I highly recommend trying to find it for download. There are drums, piano, harmonies, a horn solo at the end, banjo - it also doesn't really sound like anything she's done before, which is always nice.
  12. it is a triple album, and here is the track list: Disc One: 1 - Easy 06:04 2 - Have One On Me 11:02 3 - ‘81 03:51 4 - Good Intentions Paving Company 07:02 5 - No Provenance 06:25 6 - Baby Birch 09:30 Disc Two: 1 - On A Good Day 01:48 2 - You And Me, Bess 07:12 3 - In California 08:41 4 - Jackrabbits 04:23 5 - Go Long 08:02 6 - Occident 05:31 Disc Three: 1 - Soft As Chalk 06:29 2 - Esme 07:56 3 - Autumn 08:01 4 - Ribbon Bows 06:10 5 - Kingfisher 09:11 6 - Does Not Suffice 06:44 you can find the track '81 if you search a bit online, drag city were streaming it, but took it down f
  13. Epic, to me, sounds bad, but they've never done anything bad so far - so I'll take their word for it.
  14. you probably need to check out mother teresa's early albums whilst you're at it.
  15. I'm not entirely sure what The Right Stuff Records is, but I'm pretty positive that Al Green was on Hi Records. Personally, I think that Swamp Dogg as a producer and a musician is one of the finest Southern Soul men of all time. Otis Redding, James Carr & Clarence Carter are the other big three I love, but Swamp Dogg always edges it for the fact that he wrote most of (and produced) "I'm A Loser" by Doris Duke, "In Between Tears" by Irma Thomas and "Too Many People In One Bed" by Sandra Phillips all in about a year of each other, plus his own albums, plus his work with Raw Spitt.
  16. the word on the street is that this is going to be a TRIPLE ALBUM! if that is true, then this is going to be very interesting.
  17. i think that Ys by Joanna Newsom is both the most ambitious and perfect album of the decade; then my other picks would be (in no order): feels - animal collective strawberry jam - animal collective merriweather post pavillion - animal collective rings around the world - super furry animals phantom power - super furry animals stephen malkmus - stephen malkmus soul journey - gillian welch person pitch - panda bear nixon - lamchop is a woman - lambchop the software slump - grandaddy sumday - grandaddy return to cookie mountain - tv on the radio bitte orca - the dirty projectors insignificance -
  18. the new joanna newsom album should be out this year, or so it says in this very annoying video: here and if it's anything near as good as her last one (and the live songs suggest it is) it will be incredible. animal collective will have that visual album out, i'd assume, this year too - but they put an album out a year, so it's not quite as interesting as joanna newsom.
  19. i don't really think they are slick myself. i just think that they put a lot more effort into the recordings than many of the other bands did. i think they were the most experimental, mainly because all four members actually contributed to the songwriting, so they had a lot of options. i always liked Ben Shepherd's songwriting myself. it's a shame they're coming back, if you ask me - cos i think they ended on a pretty good note. down on the upside was probably not as good as superunknown, but was still very very good, and i don't see the point in getting back together to just go over old gro
  20. i predicted all 50, in the correct order.
  21. i really like the music and even the singing on the album, but the subject matter/lyrics are just a little too flimsy and annoying for my liking. maybe i'lll get over that. i don't know. anyone else feel this?
  22. it's about time you took me off "ignore"!
  23. i don't really like guitar solos (that prince one included), i'd rather have a great riff. if there needs to be a solo it needs to be fast, and make you wish there was more. here are 2 that i like: matchbox (1.57 is when the magic starts)
