Why is there such disappointment over Wilco(The Album)?
Synthesizer Patel replied to realrival's topic in Just A Fan
i only like "i'll fight" from the album. i think the arrangements and production are really bad for their standards. but, i mainly don't like the album now because jeff tweedy got a bit angry with me in some interview about saying the production was shit. i'll never forgive him for that! he better misquote me if i say the next album is good, just to balance things out with me and him -
What albums are flawless to you?
Synthesizer Patel replied to remphish1's topic in Someone Else's Song
i like Mary Ann. i was really just taking the piss a bit from all the other "flawless albums" as opposed to "albums i like all the songs on" people are posting. -
I do know that if you play I Never Learnt To Share on proper speakers it feels like your house is going to fall down. It's got some insanely deep bottom end to the whole album, which you can't really feel through headphones. Anyway, yeah it's a good album although slightly too depressing for me to listen to it too often. NP.

yeah, the link was for The Traders Den, that's where I got it from. that other bootleg looks pretty cool, although i'm never really too bothered about live bootlegs for anyone, unless i was at the concert.

I couldn't ignore a Beach Boys thread! I don't think that "Fast Eddie" version of Smile is the same as the Purple Chick one - I googled it and the sources for each song are a lot different. There is something about the Purple Chick bootleg which just seems to flow perfectly and it sounds amazing - they do source some things from Brian Wilson's Presents Smile (not that you'd notice that exactly) and other tsections from all over the shop, but it's the fact that they weren't worried about doing that which makes it work so much better. I know a lot of other people who think the Purple Chick on

God, i hope they release Smile! Imagine if they do the same as they did with The Pet Sounds Sessions? Have either of you heard the Purple Chick version of Smile? It is incredible - it sounds nothing like a bootleg, it runs perfectly in the same order as the released album etc... I think that is likely how they release this if they do, it'll be the same order as the 2004 release, eventhough Brian would probably have not had it like that if it'd been released when he made it. Everyone needs to hear the Purple Chick release - I burned it onto a disc and put it inside the 2004 issue, cos I d

I thought they peaked at Get Behind Me Satan too, or at least that was their last great album - I really liked that album, but Icky Thump was just shockingly bad to my ears, and all his side-projects are a bit third-rate too. He just seems to be going downhill fast, every time i read something he says or does the word "twat" seems to form in my head in big neon letters. His work on the Wanda Jackson album is way too heavy handed and ultimately dull. Anyway, what I'm getting at here is I don't really care they've called it a day - it's just a shame that the band was the only properly worthwhile

this would be a lot better if it was a man that acted like an alien (eg. david bowie - the man who fell to earth or even mork and mindy) rather than an alien that acts like a man. i don't get the appeal of things that way round, it's not funny to me.

I think it's his best so far. Not that the song writing has improved massively, but the arrangements and production are really great. You should also check out Candylion, I think you'd like that too. -
Advice needed on buying keyboard
Synthesizer Patel replied to jpowell's topic in Solid State Technology
If people are suggesting you spend $1000 or something, have you ever just thought about buying a few vintage things for the same price? a Honher Pianet T for electric piano (people claim they were used by Led Zeppelin etc... which is not quite true of that model, but they are still vintage sounding and a cheaper version of a Fender Rhodes/Wurlitzer) a reasonably good Combo Organ, a good chord organ, a harmonium etc... you could probably get all those together for $1000 if you search around, and although you won't have a real 'piano sound' as such - at least you'll have real instuments with d -

GtrPlyr, do you like Gruff Rhys? Got nothing to do with all the Sly & The Family Stone listening, I'm just curious. NP. -

i forgot Vitamin K - that's another highlight. yeah, the songs are incredibly short, but that's a good thing - no pop song really needs to be over 3.30 minutes generally. the arrangements on every single song are fantastic, the production in general is perfect. i don't really think he's got a comfort zone, cos he can pretty much do any type of song anyway. -

At The Heart Of Love, Sensations In The Dark, If We Were Words, Christopher Columbus - this album is absolutely fantastic. Maybe some of his best ever songs right there! -

i don't think the super furry animals have got too much life left in them. not in terms of being able to make great music, i just think they're going to find it hard keeping going with the money, i suppose it depends on how gruff's solo work goes down. i don't really know what their sales figures are like actually. it's not that they would completely break up, because they all like each other etc... it's just they might not make a band album for a long time. we'll wait and see. -

gruff (and the super furry animals) and joanna newsom are the only 2 modern bands/people i want to see live that i haven't - i probably should go to a green man concert sometime as they both seem to play there. this new gruff album is shaping up to be brilliant from the single and the samples i've heard. i know he does a lot of music every year, but i'd like to see him do a lot more - if for no other reason than so i can find it easier making a top ten in decemeber -
