Wilco — 7/2/12, Rochester, MN (Mayo Civic Center Auditorium)
Eternal Instigator replied to bböp's topic in After The Show
Holiday week - good point. Why on earth one wouldn't plan their holiday week around 2 Wilco shows is beyond me, but to each their own. I agree that the set in Rochester was pretty awesome! I just wish I hadn't allowed myself to be so distracted by the people around me so I could have enjoyed it more - but I really HAD to watch out so I didn't get elbowed in the face. I've already had one pair of glasses broken by someone's elbow (not concert related, however - it was Tackle Beer Pong) and I really like my new frames LOL! I was hoping to hear "New Madrid" at least once during my little 5 -

That's my husband in the first picture - 2nd guy from the right. You can't see me, but I was right next to him! -

Phew - it's not just me that notices the crappy Rochester crowd! I was venting to a friend who's also from down there and she's heard the same complaints - they act like red-neck idiots. You mentioned in your review that it's Wilco's constant touring that may be the reason the show didn't sell out. I disagree. Rochester is an easy drive from the Twin Cities where they always sell out. I'm guessing enough people have had a bad experience down there to cause them to stay home and wait for the band to hit Mpls/St. Paul again. After Monday, I've even entertained thoughts about not going down -

Disclaimer: I'm originally from Rochester, MN and couldn't get out fast enough after high school - growing up and going to the same schools from kindergarten on with many of the doctors' kids who were entitled brats left me jaded and probably contributed to my punk rock ethos. Best place to live in the U.S., my butt. I've also become blunt in my middle age and couldn't care less if I come off as a b**ch when I point out the fact that someone is rude or disrespectful. I'll start off politely, but if you can't take the hint, I'll hit you over the head with a 2x4 of an explanation of how you'r -

I was worried the "VIP" section was going to be a downer or at least really mellow. We were the first ones in the corral and watched it fill up (slowly) with what looked like a lot of older and/or more casual fans (and when I say older, I mean people that looked closer to my parents' age and I'm 40 lol). It wasn't even 1/3 full when Blitzen Trapper started which is too bad because they were great! I asked one of the security guards if we were going to be able to go up front and dance and he sort of shrugged as though to say "sorry, but no". I explained that if we didn't, Jeff was going to c -

LOL! The Boy (version 1.0) will be back in school and Dave might kick my butt if I run off to any more shows without him! -

Nuts! I'm not sure if I met you at the hotel or not (I talked to quite a few people), but it sounds like you should have been hanging out with us! I was lucky enough to find some folks, including some from my state, that could sing along to every song. Granted, Laminated Cat threw a couple of them for a loop, but all in all, they were fun and didn't talk over the music or sit down like a lot of the "weekenders". Have fun at your upcoming shows! I've got Duluth and Rochester, MN tomorrow and Monday and then Chicago next weekend -

I almost wish Red Rocks would have been the last of my 3 weeks of shows. Saturday night is going to be tough to beat! But, on the other hand, I had so much fun with the Weekend group and am looking forward to meeting up with a few of them in Duluth! Or, at SSF next year -
70's by show time?! And to think I was going to punch the next person back home who gave me the "at least it's a dry heat" response when I told them about the forecast. Yay for dry heat!!

Do they actually play songs we request?
Eternal Instigator replied to blackmoon77's topic in After The Show
At the 2010 Solid Sound, someone kept requesting "Shake It Off" and Jeff suggested that they "get on the internet and request it 10 million times...like this song" and then they went into "Cars Can't Escape". Apparently, one of us is "really good with computers" and stuffs the ballot box with "Cars" for every show -
I'll be at the Hotel Monaco pretty early. I'm flying in on Thursday night and staying at the Warwick so I can get up early on Friday to remote in to work for a couple hours. Once I check in at the Monaco, I'll probably just sort of hang out and wait for my roommate to arrive. I'll be the short-haired redhead with black rimmed glasses in the Wilco shirt lol! Two weeks from today! Candi

It was all GA last time they played there - it was the one rescheduled due to Nels' chickenpox and, although it was 80 degrees when we left Minneapolis, it was around 40, foggy and misting in Duluth. That said, it's a really cool place for an outdoor show with Lake Superior waves practically washing up to the back of the stage and the lift bridge in the background. Not only did they sound great that night, but the ambiance was surreal with the stage lights cutting through the fog and mist! We scored the pre-sale roped off section for Duluth and 2nd row in front of John in Rochester, MN!

Hey all! I'm looking to split my weekend package with someone! The husband can't go, I've decided not to bring any offspring (I want to drink some beer and have fun) and Boxfullofletters (see earlier thread) has decided to be fiscally responsible and stick to the shows out East despite my subtle efforts to nudge her to the dark side. My room reservation is for two double beds which conveniently removes any akwardness lol. I believe half the package winds up at about $520, but I'm willing to make a resonable negotiation - I'd hate to see this ticket go to waste! Tickets for both nights and

Red Rocks Weekend Package - Looking for a roommate
Eternal Instigator replied to boxfulloflecords's topic in Got Extras?
LOLOLOL!!!!!!! I'm Shimmyshake - 2012 mid-season draft in January and am currently dealing with an unrelated knee injury (I tripped over my dog, flew through the air and decided to save my face from slamming against the side of my bedroom door instead of catching my fall - my right knee took it all). That's right - I'm a klutz who spends way too much time with wheels on my feet. Only played in one bout so far and spent most of my 3 jams in the penalty box -

Red Rocks Weekend Package - Looking for a roommate
Eternal Instigator replied to boxfulloflecords's topic in Got Extras?
I'm looking for a roommate (preferably female) for the Red Rocks Weekend - package with 2 double beds has already been procured, however, the husband can't make it and the transmission went out on the 2nd vehicle over the weekend so I'd rather split the cost with someone than take my soon to be very disappointed son (we're taking him to Kane County to make it up to him) - splitting the cost plus one less plane ticket equals almost half the transmission. Since Red Rocks is my dream destination show, I selfishly can't give up the whole package. I'm 40, work for an investment advisor in Minne -
I might take you up on that. My husband can't get out of working that Friday - his boss' wife is apparently due to have a baby the day before and they guy would rather hang with his new family than work. Go figure. I'm tentatively bringing my 9 year old, but he's on my shit list right now and has 1 week to show me that he really wants to go with some good behavior. Ugh.
-
Right on - see you there! I agree that this really isn't a bad deal since we're coming from Minnesota. What's the soundboard viewing area, though? Should be interesting - I'm bringing our oldest offspring to see his drum god for his final single digit birthday! His head almost popped off when I told him tonight LOL! We were going to take him along to Solid Sound this year and make a vacation out of it until we found out it wasn't going to be a full-on festival. It will be his 2nd and 3rd Wilco shows and his first plane trip!

I'm pretty sure the package seats are that chunk right in the middle in front of the soundboard. Someone said earlier that the very front is actually seated so there are rewards to parking yourself in line early. Also, the package doesn't go on sale until Friday. I'm undecided. My worry is that the people who would throw down that much money for a concert package (the hotel goes for $295-$400+ a night) won't appreciate my dancing and singing. And there is no way in hell I'd spend that much money to see my favorite band in my dream venue and not dance and sing along like a maniac! I want

Ive been close but never met Jeff Tweedy
Eternal Instigator replied to IRememberDBoon's topic in Just A Fan
I talked to Glenn a couple times at Solid Sound last year. The first time I caught him in a gallery and showed him a picture of my 8 year old son on his drum set - I promised the kid that if I ever had the opportunity to show Glenn that he plays drums, I would. The second time, I witnessed him single handedly get his daughter into her stroller, put her sandles on and then load his son into a front carrier. It was impressive and, as a mom of 2, I had to complement him on his mad transportation preparation skills. He actually thanked me for being so enthusiastic during his solo show. He had -
Are these the weekend package deal seats? I'm curious about the "VERY special happy hour" - I wonder what this all about?

Your Favorite Nuances/Parts of Wilco Songs
Eternal Instigator replied to choo-choo-charlie's topic in Just A Fan
The bright and dark sounds in "Radio Cure" - the constant underlying dissonance that sets the song's mood, but then there's the happy little guitar melody in the second verse and Glenn's bells in the chorus. Back to dissonance and then the super poppy chorus. Makes me think of a defense mechanism, putting on a brave face.
