Shining Sunbeam

Hi All, I'll be in Chicago for a few days with my family in July. I need to find a place for the four of us to stay. Downtown is looking a tad too expensive. For a trip to DC once we had great luck staying in Bethesda at a hotel that was literally on top of the Metro, making it easy to leave the car and take the train into the city. I'd like to duplicate that experience in Chicago but I don't know eneough about the CTA and the areas surrounding the various stations and what areas might be a candidate for this strategy. Any suggestions? Thanks, Michael

Does anyone have any credible info for what the future might hold for Wilco touring? Would love to have them back to Western New York again.

I know what the currently scheduled dates are, but there is a big ol' gap over the Summer months. I'm wondering if they'll be filling those.

Lots of Summer shows are being announced these days, but I haven't picked up the slightest clue as to whether Wilco will be on the road in the States this Summer. Actually, that may be the clue that they are not, but I was hoping someone may have some good information to suggest that they are. Anyone?

I'm not totally against it. I think it's done beautifully at the end of You Are My Face. For me, however, it's too heavy handed in via Chicago, though the explnation about the El train provides just the explanation I was looking for when I started this thread and gives me a new context in which to think about it.

I love Wilco, but one small beef I have is the use of dissonance in their songs, and yes, I realize that for many, this is probably heresy. But I'm dismayed and confused about it especially as it relates to the song via Chicago. It is such an incredible song, but I really don't know what they are trying to achieve with the sudden crashing cacophony in the middle of the song. Anyone have any insight to why they do that in this song? Thanks.

Right now, Muzzle of Bees is the leader on the request list for the Montreal show. How likely is it that Wilco will actually honor that? I've only seen two shows so far, and only learned about the ability to request at the second one, so I'm curious about this. Thanks.

What about "Country Disappeared". I think that one is a great vocal turn by Tweedy. I have no idea if you could find sheet music, however.

Hi All, My wife and I would like to go to Montreal and the show just sold out. Indeed, this is a bit embarassing because tickets were so readily available for so long. Nonetheless, I was a bit lazy about securing child care, and should have known that our friends would never make a timely decision (we'll actually take 4 tix if you got 'em). ... I was just hoping it would have been Rochester (or Buffalo, Syracuse, or Ithaca). Oh well, I'm looking forward to Montreal. I just hope the weather cooperates. It's a long drive from Western New York for that time of year.

I've become quite familiar with the Wilco catalog over the last year or so, but I don't know much about Wilco the band and who Tweedy and the others count among their influences. Anyone know? Secondly, who do you hear in their music? Here are a few of my observations. Wow, that site is great. I've thought of doing something like that for my hometown, Rochester, NY, but as great as it is in its own way, we don't have any hig-profile perfomers who live here, nor do we get all the big shows. Keep it up!

I just discovered the archive of Wilco shows. What are the essentials? You know, the Wilco equivalents of The Grateful Dead Ithaca '77, Bruce Springsteen at The Main Point '75, the stuff that would form the backbone of any collection. I just donwloaded and converted the first song of the three versions available of my first show (Rochester '08) and the third is definitely the best, so there's my first project. Next up, I'm thinking the whole residency, unless I get strong opinions sending me in a different direction. Thanks!

Does Wilco encourage, turn a blind eye to, or forbid, trading of bootleg CD's? I come to Wilco after years and years of accumulating Grateful Dead, Sprinsgteen, and Dylan boots. I'd like to get a few of Wilco, but don't want to violate the band's better nature or get myself in trouble on this board.

Two songs you left off are the two that for me would be the first to stay, 'What's the World Got In Store' and 'Say You Miss Me'

Too funny, 'What's the World Got In Store' was literally running through my head when I opened this post. What a great tune; ditto for 'Say You Miss Me' a couple tracks up on that platter.

Do they actually take the seats out at this place? I kinda' doubt it. It's probably a GA show, just the first people in get the front row. Seems kinda' nutty to me, but that's my bet for how it goes down.

I got through Front Gate no problem to get tix for this show. It was my first time, so I don't know if these on sales are usually a big cluster@#%& or not. But I declined to buy them based on the Will Call only option. We'd be driving up from Rochester, NY, and you can't get a worse time of the year for weather, so I figure I'll wait to get hard tickets in hand that I could Fed Ex to someone a few days out if a storm is brewin'. Plus, having it be GA sort of took away some of the urgency to buy now. I have a friend who used to live in Montreal. She said that the venue is great.

Good question regarding Montreal. That's the show we are contemplating. I'd like to know one way or another. It's a bit of a risk, though, that time of year, having to drive from Rochester, NY.

I don't mind a singalong here and there, but when a performer gives over a whole verse or more of a song to the audicnec, that's just too much. It's not may favorite song in the Sprinsgteen canon, but he does that to the opening verse to 'Hungry Heart', and also to key parts in 'Thunder Road', which I like a lot.

I saw some other Chicago boys at the State Theater last weekend, Justin Roberts & the Not Ready for Naptime Players. That was actually quite a good show, but I kept thinking the same thing, that it would be great if Wilco played there. My 7-year old said the same thing.
