  1. Live/Dead at #7. I only looked at the top 10, did the first Cowboy Junkies album make the list?
  2. Thanks for the responses. I've never found them to be boring live, but the latest release is boring to me.
  3. I don't take the RS lists too seriously. I mostly use them as reminders of music that I haven't listened to in a while which prompts me to go listen. So whether something is listed at 40 or 25 or 10, I try not to get too worked up about. I thought this list was kind of fun, but I saw it late last night and only made it through the top 10. Live/Dead at #7 was relevant to the discussion here about the merits of that album as an introduction to the Dead. And I'm firmly in the camp that The Eleven totally cooks. One of the best tunes that Phil and Friends/Furthur has brought back.
  4. Live/Dead checks in at number 7 on Rolling Stones' 40 Greatest Stoner Albums. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/the-40-greatest-stoner-albums-20130607/grateful-dead-live-dead-19691231
  5. How were they? I have a ticket for Thursday, but am awfully busy at work and watching the Bruins (!) and tired, thinking about just blowing it off. Unless you have strong words of encouragement to get me motivated.
  6. Found my Dupree's, Issue No. 23. Not the cover, but Dwork's long piece "The Most Important GD Concert Of All Time." Pretty much the same piece as is in the Compendium. It is over the top, but he's got it totally right!
  7. I will have to pull the Compendium off the shelf. I have a memory that back in the day Duprees Diamond News did an entire issue, or at least a very long form cover story, about this show. I have it saved, will dig that out and give it a read also.
  8. There are few songs in rock history as good as Marquee Moon. I didn't request it, but I sure hope they play it.
  9. Amazing. Someone's got time on his hands. Great job. Very psyched this is coming out of the vault. Listening to my disc right now, Jerry shredding on the wah wah on Greatest Story. Head exploding.
  10. Remember that naked guy on the pole over Garcia's shoulder during Dark Star (I think it's during Dark Star)? I always wonder where he is now.
  11. The audio and video is outstanding! What an upgrade from what's been circulating. Hope they do a dvd/blu-ray release of this. Might be just what I need to finally toss the dvd player and get a blu-ray.
  12. Yeah, it's about time, Sunshine Daydream being released to theaters "glorious HD resolution" and hope a DVD/Blu-Ray release will follow." One of the greatest of all the Grateful Dead performances. http://www.jambase.com/Articles/118725/Grateful-Dead-Sunshine-Daydream-Coming-To-Theaters
  13. I was off the bus from about '81-'87, so missed all those '84 shows folks are sharing about. Got back on for good at MSG, this show being a principal reason why, just came across this full show video. For those who may not be familiar, I highly recommend the second set.
  14. I have a countdown app on my phone. I can set up different events to count down to and pin to my start screen. Looking at it right now, 16 days to Solid Sound it says! Yeah, really. I was wondering the same.
  15. Colt Park was one of the weirdest nights I ever had. Can't comment on the playing though.
  16. Anybody read this? http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9339331/after-30-years-consider-phish-great-band Nothing particularly revealing here, but a shoutout to Wilco: "The other kind of greatness derives from never being less than good (and staying connected to a sizable core audience) over many years. U2, R.E.M., Sonic Youth, Metallica, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, and Wilco are the most notable recent examples of this lived-in greatness — and so is Phish, though it rarely gets mentioned in this company."
  17. I believe so. Saturday single day sold out a week or 2 ago. First year we were staying at a bed and breakfast with some folks from VT who were friends with the promoter (is Higher Ground involved), and was told that they were at about maybe 60% capacity. That number could be off, but they had hoped to sell a lot more tickets than they did. I'm a little fearful that it will be noticeably more crowded this year. Not that there's anything wrong with being at a festival of Wilco fans! But, one of the charms of SS1 and SS2 was the absence of long lines for food and beverages and restrooms, a
  18. NYE 12-31-73 from Winterland is outstanding. I think it's 4 discs, including a 3rd set early morning blues jam session with Garcia and Boz Scaggs. I'd be happy to set you up with discs or a Dropbox link.
  19. I just pulled out my original vinyl, it has to be an original pressing, and it sounded great. Hadn't listened to it in a million years. So I guess I don't "need" the new 200 gram vinyl, and will most likely go for the live collection.
  20. So if I want the vinyl, I don't get the discs? Looks like I would have to make 2 purchases.
