  1. Morning coffee at my desk with Wilco live from Sydney. Best cup of coffee all week
  2. Yeah, what's with that? Bare Trees is one of my favorites from my youth! Still holds up.
  3. I will defer to a first hand account, but a search on Twitter reveals lots of Instagram photos of everyone standing down front. And lots of minds blown by Wilco (though I too would be disappointed in a 90 minute show with no opener).
  4. Thanks for the head's up. By my calculation on the World Clock-Time Zone Converter, they will be hitting the stage at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, Boston time. Just in time for my morning coffee and run on the treadmill. Excellent.
  5. 11 songs? Was this a festival set? That seems short even for a festival set.
  6. Glenn Joe Russo Butch Trucks, Jaimoe and Marc of the ABros, as a unit Stanton Moore Jon Fishman Matt Abst Billy Kreutzman, especially as the solo drummer during '72-'74 Mickey Hart
  7. Ok, I can admit it, that particular joke does hit a nerve for me. As I tried to express, and jw harding put so well, I get that most people don't like the Dead's music, and that causes me no consternation, nor will I try to proselytize to anyone about the Dead. It's just that I find that joke to be directly derogatory towards the fans. Thus, the nerve. From what I know of you from here, I have a high degree of confidence that you had no intention of hurling personal insults. Completely coincidental, this weekend I was thinking of you and your comment a while ago in another thread questi
  8. Seriously? That old saw? I've only heard that 100 times. If I thought the person repeating it was saying "I don't care for the Dead", I wouldn't think twice. To each their own, no matter to me at all. But what that "joke" says to me is that people who like the Dead only do so because they're a bunch of stoners, and as soon as they stop taking drugs they will realize what I (the speaker) knows to be an undeniable truth, which is that the Dead suck. I've always found that line to be a derogatory comment to the fans of the band. And surprising to see it repeated here. Sorry. Now back
  9. It makes for a good story. Truth be told, it's not the best place to experience the show, you can only hear under headphones and we were told that if we so much as moved a toenail we'd be out of there. But it was pretty cool to be sitting there right alongside Hornsby on accordion and Garcia. It was a mediocre at best second set. But, I got to experience first hand something the band always talked about; the interplay between the stage and audience and the energy that the audience can deliver to the stage. Like I said, it was a mediocre at best second set. Then they did The Weight for th
  10. Correct. And to be precise, Bralove was not responsible for Jerry's midi effects as far as I know. His gig with the Dead was to work with Vince and Mickey on their midi effects. I think. I love the Wolf guitar. I have the Wolf on an old tee shirt that was sold by Doug Irwin. It's lasted all these many years, these days in order to preserve it I only break it out for special occasions. If Jerry came back from the dead and played only the kazoo I'd still attend
  11. You mean this? Songs for Slim? http://www.rollingstone.com/music/albumreviews/songs-for-slim-20130315
  12. Cowbell Josh Farmer (Warren Haynes' guitar tech. A "mini-me" (though not so "mini") version of Warren the entire GD crew: Parrish, Kid, Ramrod. And in the '90'sw, Bob Bralove (he was a midi tech guy, does that count as a roadie?), through his friendship with my cousins in SF got me guest passes for many GD shows in Boston and NY, had drinks with me after the show, and got me to sit up on stage next to Garcia and Hornsby for the second set of a show at Nassau Coliseum.
  13. Keith Godchaux Chuck Leavell Page McConnell Booker T Marco Benevento Chris Stainton Hornsby (solely for his piano playing with the Dead in '90-91) Neal Evans
  14. Great, I'm inspired to go pull out some Clash and turn up the volume.
  15. Hmmm, two people listed Simonon, which got me thinking. The Clash are one of my all-time favorites, but I think of them as a musical unit. When I think of them i always think of Paul, but rarely because of his bass playing. I don't carry his bass lines in my head. Just saying. Not meant to be critical in any way of anyone's choices, just something that interested me.
  16. To go along with the Your Favorite Guitar Players discussion. Emphasis on "favorite." Here's mine, off the top: Phil Lesh Jack Casady Mike Gordon George Porter, Jr. Oteil Burbridge Paul McCartney
  17. Favorites? I like that criteria so much better than "best." In the "without overthinking it" vein, and subject to adjustment when I do: Garcia Jorma (I don't think anyone included Jorma, one of my all time heroes) and the rest in no particular order... Warren Haynes Derek Trucks Trey Clapton Richard Thompson David Hidalgo Nels Tweedy Neil Eric Krasno Peter Buck Bob Weir
  18. Yes, on the Layla album you had the Les Paul and Strat combo. But from what i recall, Duane played only a couple of live shows with the Dominos, and I'm pretty sure Clapton played his Strat throughout. And I'm pretty certain he played his Strat on the tour with Derek Trucks. I think I would have remembered if he played something else. I have both Crossroads dvd's, one of those is the band with Derek I believe, I'll take a look.
  19. Definitely not buying this Gibson v. Strat issue. When did he last play a Gibson, in Cream? He played a Strat (Brownie) on Layla and when he toured Derek and the Dominos, so that puts that argument to rest for me.
