There's a lot of tunes I may not care for, but I always dig Clapton's guitar playing. -

One of the things I like about those silly lists like Fricke did is that they remind me of shows/albums I haven't listened to in a long time. Case in point here, that Great American Music Hall show, DP 1. Hadn't listened to it in years. The playing is fantastic, so tight. And anytime I get to hear Uncle Bill's voice is a good time. I remember how psyched I was when this first DP was released, the Dead opening up the vault.

Eric Clapton's Crossroads Guitar Festival

This weekend. I am starting to get very psyched for both nights. -
If you missed out on this Roadtrips, a while back Hidden Track put out one of their compilations series, Steel Cut Oats Vol. 7, A Mile High in '73. Taken from the same shows, 37 tracks, it's outstanding. Check their site, or I can hook you up with it via Dropbox or something.

Listen To the Dead, sounds pretty cool, I'm going to check it out right now with some of Lamycat's Deal suggestions: http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/technology-tuesday-streaming-the-grateful-dead-with-listentothe-gd/

That's ok, can't blame ya! My personal nit is that I would go with Roosevelt Stadium 8-6-74 over the Philly shows the previous nights. It's a monster. And it was my first Always subjective these lists are, but I always like pouring over lists of GD shows. Reminds me of shows to pull off the shelf. Yes.

Bombino: African (Toureg) music produced by Auerbach
worldrecordplayer replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Saw Bombino at JazzFest last year (or was it the year before?) on a friend's recommendation. Wasn't familiar with his music, his set was outstanding. See him if you get a chance. -

Wilco - 2 April 2013, Sydney (Sydney Opera House)
worldrecordplayer replied to BeShakey's topic in After The Show
I will defer to a first hand account, but a search on Twitter reveals lots of Instagram photos of everyone standing down front. And lots of minds blown by Wilco (though I too would be disappointed in a 90 minute show with no opener). -
Sydney 3rd April show to be streamed live
worldrecordplayer replied to eckythump's topic in After The Show
Thanks for the head's up. By my calculation on the World Clock-Time Zone Converter, they will be hitting the stage at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, Boston time. Just in time for my morning coffee and run on the treadmill. Excellent. -

11 songs? Was this a festival set? That seems short even for a festival set.

Ok, I can admit it, that particular joke does hit a nerve for me. As I tried to express, and jw harding put so well, I get that most people don't like the Dead's music, and that causes me no consternation, nor will I try to proselytize to anyone about the Dead. It's just that I find that joke to be directly derogatory towards the fans. Thus, the nerve. From what I know of you from here, I have a high degree of confidence that you had no intention of hurling personal insults. Completely coincidental, this weekend I was thinking of you and your comment a while ago in another thread questi

Seriously? That old saw? I've only heard that 100 times. If I thought the person repeating it was saying "I don't care for the Dead", I wouldn't think twice. To each their own, no matter to me at all. But what that "joke" says to me is that people who like the Dead only do so because they're a bunch of stoners, and as soon as they stop taking drugs they will realize what I (the speaker) knows to be an undeniable truth, which is that the Dead suck. I've always found that line to be a derogatory comment to the fans of the band. And surprising to see it repeated here. Sorry. Now back

It makes for a good story. Truth be told, it's not the best place to experience the show, you can only hear under headphones and we were told that if we so much as moved a toenail we'd be out of there. But it was pretty cool to be sitting there right alongside Hornsby on accordion and Garcia. It was a mediocre at best second set. But, I got to experience first hand something the band always talked about; the interplay between the stage and audience and the energy that the audience can deliver to the stage. Like I said, it was a mediocre at best second set. Then they did The Weight for th

Correct. And to be precise, Bralove was not responsible for Jerry's midi effects as far as I know. His gig with the Dead was to work with Vince and Mickey on their midi effects. I think. I love the Wolf guitar. I have the Wolf on an old tee shirt that was sold by Doug Irwin. It's lasted all these many years, these days in order to preserve it I only break it out for special occasions. If Jerry came back from the dead and played only the kazoo I'd still attend

Cowbell Josh Farmer (Warren Haynes' guitar tech. A "mini-me" (though not so "mini") version of Warren the entire GD crew: Parrish, Kid, Ramrod. And in the '90'sw, Bob Bralove (he was a midi tech guy, does that count as a roadie?), through his friendship with my cousins in SF got me guest passes for many GD shows in Boston and NY, had drinks with me after the show, and got me to sit up on stage next to Garcia and Hornsby for the second set of a show at Nassau Coliseum.
