  1. hmmm, I'm going to have to give it another listen, because I was disappointed with it the first time. The Larry David and Lena Dunham interviews were outstanding, and after listening to those my expectations for Tweedy were off the charts. But I didn't like a lot of the subject matter (poop stories are not my thing) and for being such good friends I never thought they got in a good groove on any topic. Seemed choppy and all over the place subject wise. I must have wanted to hear more about the songs, the song writing process, live on the road, life in the band, Jeff's general outlook on al
  2. Can't wait to listen to this! His first two with Larry David and Lena Dunham are priceless. This hasn't hit my podcast subscription on my phone yet, but will be checking...
  3. This 1980 SNL performance turned up on Hidden Track yesterday. I had never heard of DeadVids.com, I know I'll be spending some time there this weekend. http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/video-grateful-dead-on-saturday-night-live-1980/
  4. Agree with all those being at the top of Weir's best, except: I could never get into Victim. Ugh. And also, I would include: the entire WRS, and in later days, Let it Grow, and LL>Supplication definitely makes my list. And now that I'm thinking about it, Greatest Story.
  5. And it's Jen Kirkman (not Kirkland). She's one of the regulars on Chelsea Lately, and a very funny person. @JenKirkman on Twitter.
  6. Also works great on my Windows Phone. Thanks.
  7. Terrible. Can't figure why they chose to release it. They should release that epic 12-31-73 Cow Palace show for a representation of this era lineup. Except maybe too widely circulated already.
  8. The newest show out this week with Lena Dunham is fantastic. Garlin absolutely loves her. Can't wait until the Tweedy show drops.
  9. Have it on now, and my memory is right. That Nassau 5/1/73 show is a terrible recording. Anyone else have it, or just my ears or discs?
  10. I was listening to that State Theater show this week. It is what inspired my post about a Tweedy show. I definitely think he could sell the Wilbur. Berklee Performance Center would also be sweet.
  11. In addition to SS'13 and as many Wilco shows as there are for me to see, I would love to see some Tweedy solo shows. In Boston.

  13. File this under completely irrelevant to everyone but me, I was at that Nassau show. I have the disc, my memory is the recording is not all that great. I will have to check it out again.
  14. "Wilco, isn't that a band with a bunch of followers with receding hairlines." Then Lipp runs a scam where he gets the word out to all the "northsiders" that Wilco is doing a secret club gig and he runs a valet parking scam. It was a riot.
  15. No idea what the song is about. But I rank it as one of the all-time great songs. As my buddy says, "Impossibly" great tune. The opaqueness of the lyrics, the melody, the 3 guitars wrapping around each other, Nels, the resolution. A masterpiece. I listen to mostly live Wilco when I listen to Wilco, and it looks boring on the setlist. Ho hum, another Impossible Germany. But then it comes on, and it never fails to move me. I think I'm bored with it, and then it just blows me away. Every time.
  16. Wilco references all over last night's episode of Shameless.
  17. I've resolved the live album/ no live album debate in my mind and come down squarely on the side of yes to live album. And so, added to my list, shooting straight to the top with bullets: The Allman Brothers Band- Live at Fillmore East. The most perfect of albums to my ears, still all these many years later. Grateful Dead- Europe '72 Lou Reed-Rock n Roll Animal Little Feat-Waiting for Columbus Jefferson Airplane-Bless Its Pointed Little Head And in the studio category, I add Hot Tuna- Burgers
  18. In the lexicon of Jazz Fest people, the Fleetwood Macs, Billy Joels, DMB's etc. are the "BNA"'s, Big Named Acts. In my experience, other than Wilco headlining on the Acura stage on Thursday in 2011, its not about the BNA's. It's about all the other incredible music that comes from the 10+ stages set up on the fairgrounds over 8 hours each day. And the late nights. I don't know if I'll see any of the second weekend BNA's, maybe Panic. But I know I'll have the best 4 days and nights of music of the year. Other than Solid Sound, of course.
  19. Lineups announced yesterday. I'm going second weekend. I look forward to going regardless of the lineup, the fun of Jazz Fest is hearing all the great music I've never heard of and would never otherwise see, but very happy with the lineup for second weekend. Black Keys, Los Lobos, Galactic, Widespread, Patti, Jimmy Cliff, Trombone Shorty, Meter Men, and more I haven't even considered yet. Anyone else in?
  20. This should be very cool. Warren and the Boston Pops doing Garcia/Dead music at Tanglewood. http://liveforlivemusic.com/news/the-jerry-garcia-symphonic-celebration/
