  1. Just listened to that: http://archive.org/details/gd1978-04-24.sbd.miller.97543.sbeok.flac16 Sunshine Daydream is "must-see" stuff. Blistering hot, blistering hot music. The acid just drips out of the tv.
  2. Hey, I was at that Normal, IL show. I was an undergrad in St. Louis, and my brother was in grad school at Normal. Don't remember much about it, will have to give a listen on the Archive. And agree with all your comments about the Venetta show. Mindblowing.
  3. I guess this discussion is limited to the Dick's and Dave's releases (as to which I don't share in the overall disappointment although I don't buy them all). But here's a plug for the Winterland '73 and Winterland '77 box sets. Whoever was responsible for those boxes hit the nail right on the head.
  4. 9-20-90 second set is probably the single best GD set I ever personally witnessed. Maybe tied with Roosevelt Stadium 8-6-74 second set. You know these nights are out as part of the Roads Trips release, although not in their entirety.
  5. That is simply the best thing written about the Dead and what made them the Dead that I have ever read! OK, I'm prone to exaggeration, but it simply is.
  6. That Intro>NFA>Easy Wind opener just rips, right out of the box. Think Weir calls that the best NFA ever. And I always love a 1970 Dancin, and this one's a keeper.
  7. That is awesome! Make it mandatory viewing for every member of Congress.
  8. He's written some of my favorite books, including Walk. My absolute favorite Bryson, and maybe all time favorite,is A Short History of Nearly Everything. Each chapter is a history of a different science subject. This book is outstanding.
  9. Another excellent Steel Cut Oats collection and great write up from Hidden Track, this edition being Capitol Theater Portchester 1970 http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/steel-cut-oats-10-back-to-the-cap-port-chester-70/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+HiddenTrack+%28Hidden+Track%29&utm_content=My+Yahoo
  10. The best 20 minutes I spent today right here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/49736294#49736294 Rachel Maddow's brilliant post-mortem on the election from last night. I know she's a cheerleader from the left and can be seen as the other side of the Fox coin, but I think she's brilliant, and I think she speaks facts. Anyhow, anyone who was pleased with the results on election day will enjoy watching this I think. We joke in my house that my wife would leave me in a second for Jon Stewart. I may do the same for Maddow. Except I think she may be gay, so my wife has less to worry
  11. Isn't that 11/10/73 Winterland sequence in the Winterland '73 box they put out? I would check myself, but we just lost power in the storm. That box set is fantastic for those who may not have it.
  12. What happened, and where does it head from here? I think Tom Friedman put it very well today: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/07/opinion/friedman-hope-and-change-part-two.html?hp
  13. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eyFiClAzq8
  14. No doubt! Always a favorite. I don't think I've ever heard their real set. When I think of Watkins Glen, I think of this soundcheck. Apparently just popped up on YouTube, the Dead in NOLA with Nevilles and the Bangles doing Iko http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/video-the-night-the-grateful-dead-met-the-bangles/
  15. Whoa, I feel like I dropped in from another planet, have never heard of most of what has been mentioned here. I couldn't argue with the Dave's Picks. And I will add: Heartless Bastards- Arrow and the Lee Renaldo Band release is really good.
  16. Stumbled ino this one tonight. We came to D.C. To visit our son, who casually mentioned last night that Lettuce and Soulive were playing the 9:30'Club tonight. So we made it a family outing to the Royal Family Ball tonight. My first visit to the famous 9:30 Club was a rager.
  17. They just come out smoking at that Wolftrap show, those first 3 songs kill, and it doesn't let down. At least to my ears. Plus you get Laminated Cat and Christ for President.
  18. I have 3 of the Roadcase shows: 6-23 Redrocks, 7-25 NYC and 7-18 Wolftrap, Vienna. Also have non-Roadcase versions of 9-22 Berkeley and 7-8 Geneva. All good, wouldn't knock any of them, but if you were asking which *1* to buy of the ones I have, I'd say Wolftrap, Vienna stands out above the rest.
  19. Sunday morning on the treadmill with these guys. I just love a pro shot show:
  20. Heartless Bastards tonight in Boston.
  21. Which generated quite a bit of discussion in the comments section. To my mind, '72-74 is just one big year, but when forced to pick a single year i usually split the baby and go with '73.
  22. Good post and discussion over at Hidden Track on the 5 best/favorite years, with links to top 5 shows of each of the 5 best years. http://www.glidemagazine.com/hiddentrack/the-b-list-the-year-of-the-dead/comment-page-1/#comment-767607
