Me likey Caribou's dark roast--black. Good stuff. But I'm not really brand-loyal to anyplace...I go to Caribou mostly because it is conveniently located on my way to work and has a drive-thru. I don't think it is a nationwide chain, though, is it? Seems to me its at a pretty big disadvantage in this poll.

Dunkin Donuts Pulls Rachel Ray Ad because...

Its alright, but its a slippery slope. I got tired of paying $$ for coffee-shop coffee, so I stared going to DD because it was good enough. Eventually I got tired of waiting in line at DD and I started going to the gas station next door. There should be a poll for which gas station has the best coffee. * My only problem with DD coffee is that unless you explicitly tell them not to, they will load your coffee up with so much cream and sugar that it ends up tasting like one of their donuts. -
I don't really read the NP thread too often, so I have no idea. Hats off to the guys who keep the VC Grateful Dead thread going here, against all odds. But I'd also be equally at home talking about Fugazi or John Coltrane and it changes from minute to minute, depending on my mood, time of day, or phase of the moon. So if there's anybody out there who shares my scatter-brained-ness, cheer up, my doctor says there are many treatment options available!

I'm the opposite. I don't really like the first song, the next couple are okay but uneven...and just when I was about to give up on it, the second half of the record really pulled me in. Overall, I think its a pretty good record, just not my favorite.

Have you ever noticed how many murderers wear shoes? And yet all you clueless little sheep continue to wear them because you think they are "fashionable" or protect your feet when you step on "pointy things". -
You know, you're kind of right about that.

Frankly, I forgot I own it. I'll have to go listen to it again and get back to you. Or did I already answer your question?

"Stay Positive" is the "What Light" of this record. That is neither praise nor criticism, just an observation that one song made me think of the other. I will now sit back and watch the ensuing firestorm.

Just finished my second run through this thing and my opinion has improved somewhat. The latter half of the album far outshines the first, imo. Everything from Both Crosses through Slapped Actress is first rate--but it is kind of hit and miss up to that point. Not my favorite record, so far, but this one has the feel of a grower, so time will tell.

Welcome the newest member of Muzak Nation:

Pretty good. I haven't listened to it in quite a long time, but it has some good stuff on it. I particularly liked his versions of "Don't Think Twice, Its Alright" and "Long Black Veil". Everybody in the world has covered those songs, but I like the way he does them. There are a few good originals on there, too. Nothing earth-shattering, but its an interesting album. -

Bruce appeared on Ness' solo country album a few years back, so its not that unlikely of a combo. -

This kind of stuff doesn't surprise me anymore. Doesn't mean I don't cringe a bit every time it happens, tho. My best guess is that somewhere in the world there is somebody a lot like me who is stuck working a job coming up with programming for Muzak...and at least that guy isn't me! -
Let me count the ways. Poor choice of location, traffic issues on the highway just getting there, bad access roads into/out of the parking lot, lack of any sort of order to the parking lot, and the venue itself is entirely devoid of ambiance (if you are "lucky" enough to actually make it inside). Terrible, terrible venue. That really sucks reading about what happened at that Radiohead show. To some extent the situation was out of their control with the weather. I don't live in the area anymore and haven't been there in a while, but I'm guessing they still haven't upgraded the access road

Wilco might have been Wal-Mart in the early days. Lately...well, frankly, they've upscaled their image somewhat, so they're probably at least a Target now. A target with a Whole Foods or Trader Joe's next door.

I am completely surprised that Columbus sold out so fast. Just doesn't strike me as a Tom Waits kind of town. I think you're right...they gotta be importing people from elsewhere.
-
No luck scoring Columbus tix so far. I was unavailable at 10:00 and now my searches are turning up no results. Its not marked as sold out, so I'll keep periodically refreshing to see if anything turns up.

I'm putting on a second, even bigger one to go on top of my everyday tinfoil hat.

A Thread for Musical Blasphemy you Truly Believe

Posting this idea on a website devoted to a song-based band like Wilco is not blasphemy. Go post this on Dead.net and then see what reaction you get. -
A show of hands... How many of us people with our really awesome work ethics spend at least 50% of their workday surfing? For the record, an awful lot of the recent grads I work with are possessed of a corporate-go-getter attitude that would put the Alex P. Keatons of my generation to shame. I can't decide if I should admire it or by terrified of it. They're probably the ones going home talking about me--the guy who just wants to put in enough hours to get the job done so he can go home to his family and enjoy the things that are actually important in life. In their eyes, I'm sure

This is as bad as when somebody decided that my generation (X) consisted entirely of lazy, misanthropic slackers. Wait.......well, shit, that one is actually pretty dead-on for me.

Argh. I knew I should have snagged some Stones stuff while it was there. I'm a longtime member--enough so that I'm still bitter about paying $9.99/mo for 40 dls because it used to be unlimited. (which was awesome, but probably a horrible business model ) I've thought about dropping the service so many times. There are so many months that go by and I kick myself for not using my dls (or wasting them on crap I know I won't listen to more than once), but then I go through streaks where I find tons of stuff I want.

I guess I could have put an * next to my WSP comments, noting that I have not seen the band since '97 or so and am not sure how I would feel about sitting through an entire show of theirs today--they're getting a bit tired, imo.(but this is a blasphemy thread and what would be the fun in that?) But Panic back then? Lights out, 100% pure badassery. The 2nd best live performance I've seen from a "W" band is Ween. -

I'll counter and raise it up a couple notches: Widespread Panic is the best live band I've seen that starts with W.
