  1. My iPod is lately having all sorts of problems getting corrupted every time I plug the USB into my computer. At first I thought the hard drive was going, but now I suspect a lethal combination of an aging (3 yrs) iPod, recently updated iTunes software, and f'ing Vista. The perfect storm. At the moment I am none too happy with either Microsoft or Apple. Visita is a box full of crap, but my current problems started as soon as I updated iTunes. I dunno. Vista came pre-installed on my new laptop--I figured why not give it a go? I'm a glutton for punishment that way. And I figured it can
  2. Around $3.25ish in Columbus, OH. I wonder at what point, if any, this will have any sort of effect on workplace cultures. I have a job that allows me to work remotely through VPN access, but the work-from-home thing has always been viewed as one of those use-it-but-don't-abuse-it privileges. Working from home is ok as long as it is done sparingly, but 99% of the time we are expected to physically be in the office. I wonder if those attitudes will become more lax over time.
  3. Meaningless is the wrong word. In my case, I'll just say that I don't have enough data yet to radically overturn my preseason expectations. Teams are streaky, particularly in the early-going, and we'll have to see what shakes out over the long haul. The first week, however, has not been meaningless to me in the sense that I'm having a lot of fun with this baseball season already.
  4. I know its early and the first week means nothing blah blah blah, but no matter what happens.......must * resist * temptation * to * start * believing * in * Orioles. Been down that path too many times in recent years, only to be smacked upside the head with a 3000-game losing streak after the all-star break. Gotta keep a sense of perspective on this.
  5. *Oriole Magic* Yes, I'm enjoying this while I can. I already have another image ready to use if/when things go south.
  6. After putting together possibly the worst overall bracket of my life, I managed to salvage it by correctly picking the final two teams. Nice save, if I do say so myself.
  7. Man, if ever there were a year for a strike... (did I just say that? yeah, I did)
  8. Seriously, end it now before Baltimore (4-1!!) comes back down to earth with a thud.
  9. Aw. I've always been a fan of "Hey-ho/look out below/your prayers will never be answered again". But what do I know? I hate aquarium drinkers but kind of like richocheting.
  10. I once worked a temp job in the Snapple call center. The job really sucked and tended to put me in a foul mood, so I very well could have been the customer service rep who blew you off. "We verify all of our facts on the internet." Priceless.
  11. You dare question the judgement of the Almighty Apple? Someday soon, puny human, you will see the error of your ways and realize that you have just been doing it wrong. Assimilate or die!
  12. To tell the truth that whole song has never really worked for me. Not all lyrics need to make sense and I am a big fan of experimentation, but something about that song has always felt to me like it is trying too hard.
  13. I was never too impressed with the Apple version, so I can't imagine the exported-to-PC version is anything to write home about.
  14. Yeah, I saw that. So do they think it was the word "Devil" that was responsible for all their suckitude? The big guy upstairs was smiting them or something?
  15. I guess you've never been on the 7 train then, eh? I kid. I somewhat enjoy the Mets, too. And why not? My team got blown out by the Deviled Eggs. Its going to be one long-assed season.
  16. Yeah, I don't think you ever really do get over that. I've found that I can follow other teams and even kind of root for them (as long as they're in the NL), but definitely not with the same passion. For a long time the only baseball games I ever went to in person were when the O's rolled in to Yankee Stadium to get their asses handed to them over and over again, but that's a painfully predictable way to go through life. Eventually I branched out and started going to Mets games with a buddy of mine. It was okay because at least cheering for the Mets felt like a way of sticking it to the Y
  17. Word. I remember the first time I saw him walk out onstage and sit in with the ABB when he was like 16 or something. I kind of rolled my eyes and figured "Well, this should be awkward..." And then the frigging kid held his own just fine with Dickey and Warren. And he's just gotten better since then. Dude is like Buddah on that guitar. He'll sit stone still and stare a hole in the floor while those otherworldly sounds come from his guitar. He appears to be on a whole different level than most people operate on.
  18. Yeah. I dunno what the weather looks like for the rest of you guys, but here in OH we're supposed to get a deluge all week. Looking at the forecast, Opening Day might be a while away yet. Happy springtime, everybody.
  19. Don't beat yourself up over it. Over the past decade, I've become increasingly lax about the way I follow my Orioles. They haven't been any good since...well, since back when I used to live in the area. So it is always a tough call how much money I want to sink into following a crappy team from afar. Frankly, I have never bothered with the TV packages, but I usually do the GameDay Audio thing and try to listen to a bunch of games. I still do follow the team pretty closely, but I'm not killing myself over it. Besides, if I buy the more expensive packages, I'm worried that too much of that
  20. See, I love stuff like that because it improves the fans' ability to live vicariously through the players because I guarantee you every person in that stadium will be thinking "Dude, I could totally hit the ball out of this park!"
  21. Hello, Giants. We Orioles fans would like to welcome you to the party. Race you to the bottom!!!
