  1. That felt weird to read. It doesn't seem like that long ago that Tweedy was still trying to shake the "sidekick" stigma. Seems to me, by the time Tweedy had caught/surpassed Farrar in terms of critical acclaim, he wasn't really playing country anymore. Which makes the whole thing not make sense, really.
  2. That's not entirely true. Those are all fine names, it was only when you suggested I name my daughter Tina Yothers that I thought you might be crossing the line. In any case, yay babies!
  3. OMG, Hillary called me last night! I was checking my voicemail and there was a call from the 703 area code in N. Va and I assumed it was my parents, but lo and behold a voice gets on and says "Hi, this is Hillary Clinton!" and I was like "Whoa!" And she went on to talk about how sensitive she is to important issues facing us here in Ohio. Really made me feel good that she took time out to call me personally. I figure she'll have me on speed-dial when she is Vice President. I've been thinking about branching out my career into political consulting.
  4. Mmm. That's going to require an extra-large pot and a lot of butter, but it looks delicious!
  5. Okay, fess up. Who's been messing with the flux capacitor again?
  6. Agreed, that's kind of a lot. I like the idea of festivals--its neat to see a lineup with a bunch of bands I'd like to see, but I don't have the time or the money to commit to a multi-day thing for hundreds of dollars per ticket, so I'll probably never go to one of these.
  7. That is an awesome looking site. Thanks for the link.
  8. Well, most festivals start out as primarily jamband things. Face it, that's your core festival audience. There are some very good bands in there. Granted, Dave Matthews and John Mayer at the top of the list don't do much for me, but there is plenty of good music in that list.
  9. Well, they've been struggling to keep busy since we established world peace and life is nothing but rainbows and lollipops anymore.
  10. Wow. That website is mesmerizing in its absurdity.(makes for a disturbingly funny read, though) The greatest evil in this world is willful stupidity.
  11. Good for them. The entire Orioles roster was using, and look where it got them.
  12. I think he's just hinting at his likely running-mate:
  13. Stay on topic. This isn't even about mortgages! (Speaking of which, does anybody want to buy my house when my job gets shipped out to India next month? Anyone? )
  14. I am at home sick today, so Jaws will be watched in his honor.
  15. Exactly. Being on painkillers, tranquilizers, and sleeping pills all at once is already a lot, but in this case he was on two different kinds of each. Certainly this came from different doctors--or other means--because no (scrupulous) doctor would recommend this. They said no single drug was found in large quantities, so most likely he had pills from various sources and assumed they were harmless enough in low doses that he could make his own cocktail--essentially just throw down a bunch of pills and hope that something helps him feel better.
  16. I can't decide if I'm really excited about having him at OSU or if I just want to see UM go "OK, wtf do we do now that we didn't get this guy and we already ran our best QB our of town??"
  17. Pa. prep star Pryor delays college choice
  18. I have changed my mind about pears. I never liked them as a kid and refused to eat them through much of my young adult life, but it turns out they are actually pretty good. Also, gorganzola. Regarding global warming, I think the "hype" is more a media problem than a science problem. I don't think you will encounter too many scientists who doubt that human activities are having an adverse effect on the environment, but its true that there is a fair amount of debate about the specifics of the data and what the long term effects will be.(give them another century or two of data to study an
  19. Yeah. I'm not sure about taking multiple-kinds of meds for each of those conditions, but hey, I'm no pharmacist. I'm guessing the overdose was accidental, but that is definitely quite a load.
  20. See, that's funny because I look at it and think "God I wish shit like this existed ten years ago when my life was responsibility-free enough to allow me to pack up the camping gear and go to something like this."
  21. I've always been a bit suspicious of TM--something about the cost of the lessons and the sort of cultish following it has. I have no doubt that it has its benefits, but I never really understood what set it apart from, you know, regular meditation. Unless enlightenment is found in a copyright symbol.
