  1. Has it been that long? I remember hearing about this project the first time around. I wasn't sure if I was up for gospel-jam, so I never checked it out. I'm a fan of most of the players in this group, tho.
  2. I think he used the words "honor what you love" about a bazillion times. I get the point about that and he's not exactly wrong in some respects, but when he goes on these rants I tend to just roll my eyes a bit. I don't think that "nobody going into music anymore" is really the problem. As for venues closing down, there are any number of reasons for it. As the interviewer pointed out, one of the major ones has to do with rent. Most of the venues I've seen shutting down seem to be happening as a result of them being priced out of gentrifying neighborhoods moreso than anything else. If yo
  3. I have not yet checked out The Word, but pretty much wherever Medeski goes, I will follow.
  4. Anyone want to take a guess as to how many people are going to be delighted/appalled by this? I haven't listened to the podcast yet (blocked at work), but its nice to hear Bobby still has some good taste.
  5. So, as best I can figure from that game, when a speeding freight train collides with a giant flying "C", the train wins. Barely.
  6. This still gets me after all these years. When I first heard it, as a teenager who was a little too obsessed with his record collection, this was a minor revelation to hear somebody else expressing this. This was the first thing that grabbed me about the YHF record. Jeff's best lines, in my opinion, are when he drops the poetic free-associative stuff and just cuts straight to the heart of it. In my experience, this is the correct order.
  7. Not nearly as funny as a thread with "flushing" in the title should be.
  8. I am still boycotting Priceline since I once interviewed for a job as one of their lead web-developers and the grilling I got during the technical-interview schooled me so badly I still rank it among the more humiliating moments of my life. But that has no relevance to your question, I guess.
  9. Ummmmm. That was....morbidly interesting, to be honest. I only looked at a few of these, but I think this guy gets it about right:
  10. That Halloween show looks fun--I might have to check that one out. Phil reading Poe in the middle of the concert? Seriously, that's pretty cool.
  11. Exactly. Throwing the whole staff on the scrap heap looks like a dick move on the surface, but the guy is brining in a new system that requires a complete overhaul--at least offensively. Personally, I would tend to value the current D (underachieving as it may be) over whatever RichRod is likely to bring in. But who knows? Maybe those of us who tend to think that offensive-minded coaches don't care about D will be proven wrong. We'll see.
  12. I have no idea what the broken rules were, but apparently it was only severe enough to suspend the backup, not the starter. So, either rumors of Washington's alleged involvement in whatever it was were inaccurate (hope so), or else this may come out appearing kind of shady and they may have just created a nice pre-game distraction for themselves. Way to go, guys.
  13. Yep, that's a good one. 2 is probably my limit with these. I think once I tried going for 3--I forced it down because it would be a shame to waste it, but I should have stopped at 2.
  14. Agreed. Ideally, it would be nice to see both teams line up at full strength and see what happens. Especially for the guys who have been banged up, I hope the time off is enough to heal up reasonably well. The suspensions for OSU are disappointing. I don't know the circumstances behind it yet (don't even seem to be rumors yet on the OSU blogs), but there are echoes here of Troy Smith getting suspended for the Alamo Bowl a couple years ago after his breakout season.
  15. also worth noting: That sneaky little (sweatervested) devil! Henton has been a forgotten man ever since he went trying to pick up a hooker at Kroger a few months ago. I've got a strange hunch he might see some action in the championship game. It would be ballsy to bring him into that kind of environment cold after sitting out much of the season, but it just might be genius!
  16. Well, fuck. Reports: OSU starting, backup CBs suspended for rule violations On the bright side, Chimdi Chekwa has done extremely well this year, and he'll be moving into that spot. It will be interesting to see what happens if/when they go into nickel formations and whatnot.
  17. Really? I've been unimpressed with the Magic Hats I've tried. Can't remember if I've had that one. Same with the Flying Dog stuff. The label is more interesting than the beer itself.
  18. That looks awesome, but I don't think I have the patience to make it. How would one go about scoring an invitation to dinner?
  19. Is this some sort of elaborate scheme meant to humanize LSU and make it more difficult to build up a deep-seated loathing for them in the buildup to the game? If so, it kind of worked. Good show.
  20. Ooof, I'd almost forgotten about the Liquid Crack. That stuff is awful, but I guess it is kind of a rite of passage thing, eh? Ah yes, I remember (sort of) those days--a 30-pack of Busch Light and my freshman roommate and I playing all-night Rugby marathons on his Sega Genesis.(yeah we were cool) And those were just the weeknights when we were taking it easy and staying in to "study". Weekends were made for Natty Ice. Actually, I preferred Icehouse. Do they still make that stuff? I haven't seen it in years. The "ice" craze seems to have subsided a bit since the 90s. Oh, and fo
  21. Every time I've ever tried to sign up for Dime it tells me there are no more memberships available. I've heard of this video, but never seen it. Sounds like a really amazing thing to see--definitely a "time capsule" kind of piece. I'll have to look around and see if I can find it anywhere else.
  22. You could definitely do worse than Dan Zanes as those things go, but yeah, I'm just glad my kids find The Wiggles and the Doodlebops as creepy as I do.
