That was a long report. I wonder if, in the process of putting this together, anybody offered Mitchell a little something to give him the extra pep to get him over the hump. Ok, that was lame. I got nothing right now.

Find somebody from the O's in the last decade that isn't on the list. As part of an anti-steroids campaign, as a pre-game ritual, every MLB player before exiting the tunnel onto the field should be required to touch a poster depicting the entire O's roster injecting steroids into their asses juxtaposed against a graphic showing their cumulative W-L record this decade. The caption a the bottom, in bigass red letters should read: DON'T PLAY LIKE AN ORIOLE TODAY. Steroid problem solved.

Can the O's just go ahead and register as a minor-league club now? I know Tejada wanted out and I don't blame him, so good for him. (will be interesting to see the Astros' response to his name on the list--not the greatest first impression to the new fans) And now the O's have a handful of new scrawny 23 year olds that they can "pump up" with the kind of low-end steroids that they've been giving to Jay Gibbons and Brian Roberts. I mean, seriously, if those guys are going to be "on the list" too, they could have at least used the good shit like Brady Anderson got back in the day. These guy

I was going to make a negative comment about Petrino's constant jumping-around for better job offers, but then I took a glance at my own resume and realized I'm guilty of the same thing. OMG, I'm a disingenuous drifter!!1!

putting together the timeline of the world's best band

I'm considering registering this entire statement as a domain name and starting a blog. -
How about podcasts? Those might not show up in the "songs" category, but can eat up a lot of space if you have a bunch of them. My iPod flipped out on me about a month ago...I thought it was headed for the scrap heap. I've been flirting with full-capacity on my 60GB for a while and I've instituted something like a "one-album-in, one-album-out" policy to deal with it. But then I also recently accumulated enough podcasts that I got within a couple GB of 60 and my iPod started locking up and crashing all the time. I guess it needs the buffer space. That has nothing to do with your problem,

My iPod came with a "Recently Added" playlist that pops up anything I've added within the last couple weeks.

Good one. I can understand Atlanta shitting themselves, but really, can it get any worse? I was initially shocked, too, that Petrino made the jump so soon. I mean, not even a full year yet with the Falcons. Granted, he's dealt with enough BS in that short time that I don't blame him for hopping the first bus out of town, but still. I always figured he was a college coach at heart and would return at some point, but I guess I kind of figured it would be at least another couple years. Interesting.

Gholston is gone for sure. I expected that all season. Maybe Jenkins, too. Laurinitis, I agree, is the most likely to return. I think he still has some room to grow--despite picking up some more hardware (which he might take as his cue to leave), he actually didn't seem to be as dominant of a force this year as I expected. Perhaps teams began running away from him, but he was fairly quiet the second half of the season. (and, btw, I get the sense that lil'Animal has a little more going on upstairs than Kat--that guy was a special breed of stupid )

Me no likey the prospect of those 3 projected underclassmen coming from the OSU defense (Laurinaitis/Jenkins/Gholston). The D could be insanely good next year if everybody came back, but I guess its not very realistic to hope for that--especially with them making it to the championship game this year. I sure hope they make the most of the opportunity this year...

Yup. I gave up pretty much all caffeine for a few years as I was working through some anxiety/panic issues--it definitely seemed as if I had become hypersensitive to the caffeine and it would just send me over the edge. Over time, I gradually introduced regular coffee back into my routine and it has gotten to the point, unfortunately, where I'm back to drinking way more than I probably should be. (no doubt a direct result of having an infant at home) I go through highs and lows--there are times the caffeine doesn't seem to adversely affect me, but when my body is run down in any way I st

I was aware of it for a long time before I ever posted, which wasn't until around the time of the AGIB leak. I was also a member of the Postcard email list for a while in the mid-90s.

putting together the timeline of the world's best band
quarter23cd replied to mastershake's topic in Someone Else's Song
Since I'm self-important like this, here is a timeline of my own "world's best band, imo" ranging from like 1987 to present. This was kind of cathartic to write out like this. I'm sure I missed a few. --formative big-hair years--> Poison Def Leppard Great White Tesla Guns n' Roses Metallica Aerosmith --torn between grunge and hippiedom--> Nirvana Pearl Jam Allman Bros. Grateful Dead --jamband--> Blues Traveler Widespread Panic Dave Matthews Band --indie/alt/alt-country--> Pavement Cracker/Camper Van Flaming Lips Uncle Tupelo Wilco Son Volt --punk--> Rancid The Clash Fugazi - -
I know it has only been a couple weeks and it is too soon to make fun, but UM's luck so far in luring coaches away from their existing jobs is starting to remind me a bit of that scene in Major League where they call the dude up at Tire World and offer him the manager's job and he says "I dunno, let me think it over, will ya? I got a guy on the other line about some whitewalls." Classic.

Is it wrong that I voted for every single topping up to, and including, "other".

Cooper-karma vs. the Sweatervest We can never allow this to happen. Get these two forces into the same stadium together and I'm pretty sure the universe will swing off its axis and we are all doomed.

Yeah, maybe he's lost a little bit of the "miracle-worker" aura. Same deal with Ralph Friedgen at Maryland a couple years ago. Once people get over the initial shock that you're actually winning, they start expecting you to win all the time and it gets tougher to keep people impressed. Schiano is a good coach, but I think he's happy where he's at. I didn't realize he was even on UM's list. Actually, I think that's kind of a refreshing trend lately--good coaches staying put in order to try to build up programs that aren't traditional powers. Its like anti-Sabanism. Of course, I find th

Which part was I stretching about Tempe? Oh, I get it. No, I wasn't arguing a home-field bias on that one (if anything, OSU had come to think of Tempe as their home away from home--which made last year all that much more diappointing). I don't know what to expect from the game. I think OSU's team is truthfully a year away from being championship-quality (assuming most everybody comes back). That said, in a year when everybody is flawed, I think they've got a shot. If LSU jumps out to a quick lead early then I think they're in trouble, but if they keep their cool and don't beat themselve

I would dearly love to make it down to New Orleans (my wife and I spent our honeymoon at the Hotel St. Marie on Toulouse St), but I don't think a trip is in the cards right now. (let alone trying to get tickets) OSU fans travel well, so they should have no problem bringing a crowd. (unless people are still gun-shy after shelling out the dough last year and having the football team forget to show up) In the interest of being fair about this home field advantage stuff, how about next time the SEC sends a team up north to play us at a "neutral" site? For instance, Cleveland is lovely in Janua

Mp3 players are both a blessing and a curse. Honestly, I love having everything on one little box. My wife was probably going to divorce and/or kill me if I didn't do something about my sprawling cd collection. And I'll admit that it did get to the point that it stressed me out, too. The worst for me was trying to figure out what cds to take with me in the car and shuffling those cds in and out of my travel case. That guaranteed that there was always stuff lying around and I was always fiddling with that stuff. The ipod solved that problem for me and I love it for it. It didn't, howeve
