  2. Ha! From reading the title, I thought you were suggesting people create pages for fake bands on Wikipedia and my thought was "Great, just what we need. More disinformation on that site!" This sounds more benign, so I'll give it a go. 1894 in Poetry - Pique Assiette 1. Siphuncle 2. Kaala-Gomen 3. Sweet Savage 4. Propanedithiol 5. Labelle County, Quebec 6. Golden Knights 7. Yser 8. 3. I don't want to mess with the Beatlemania that I know runs rampant around here, but I think it has to be said that Paul McCartney singing "simply having a wonderful Christmas time" over and over tends to fill me with something other than feelings of goodwill toward my fellow man.
  4. I voted for A Christmas Story almost by default. I'm a bit ashamed to admit it, but at 31 years old, I have still not made it all the way through Its a Wonderful Life in one sitting yet--not that I don't like it, it just never seems to happen. I even own the damned thing on DVD! I also agree that there should be a write-in campaign for Christmas Vacation. It is something of a tradition at my house to ask if anyone wants to say grace before Christmas dinner and movie lines are quoted, allegiances are pledged, and much hilarity ensues. Somehow it never gets old. My kids love Nightmare, al
  5. I had to click way too many times to see who was on this list. Five songs per page? Meh. I closed the window and I'm just going to assume the rest of the article just listed out the entire Grateful Dead and Allman Bros discographies. (and if it didn't, it should have)
  6. How many times do you see Wilco and Ozzy mentioned together in one article?
  7. I O It would be nice to see them exorcise some of those demons from last year. I don't want to wake up the next morning having 100 people email me this again: ...although that one still makes me laugh.
  8. Interesting. The cookies we leave for him are usually only half-eaten, but the beer is always gone. Chugged in 34 microseconds.
  9. Amen. The whole concept of the "Bowl Season" has always been kind of dumb to me. For teams to play a single, isolated game at a neutral site many weeks removed from the actual season--its a glorified exhibition game. I guess that's what the bowls began as--an exhibition game in a warm locale that serves as a reward to teams for having a good season.(not to mention a moneymaker for promoters) Which is fine if that's all it is meant to be...but a lousy system if you are trying to determine a champion. Even in years when there is less argument over who the "top 2" teams are, very seldom does
  10. That gap just keeps getting closer every year, doesn't it?
  11. No offense taken. I gotta be honest, I'm pretty sure I never once rooted for UM in a bowl game in a year where they beat OSU. All that BigTen solidarity stuff is easier to stomach when your team ends up where you want them to be. Happy Holidays (and screw Michigan)!
  12. Is Disorder still around? I thought it became the Grateful Dead channel. Did it get a new station number?? Any chance the merger will help reception?(by putting more satellites to use?) I get lousy Sirius signal at my house (just north of Columbus, OH)--I don't get reliable signal until I get in my car and drive towards the city--I'm guessing b/c there must be terrestrial repeaters there. I dunno--it baffles me how a frigging satellite can't seem to find my house.
  13. I'm glad that OSU flies in a bit more under the radar this year in the sense that this time around there will be fewer individual award ceremonies to attend, so at least they won't be spending the next 136.5 weeks off at the banquet table again, having everybody tell them how great they are. I knew they were in trouble last year as soon as they came out of the tunnel. Florida looked hungry and OSU looked like it was sleepy and maybe had a bit of a tummyache from the all-you-can-eat buffet. I hope they learned from that. In other news: Hell might have just frozen over, but thanks! Look
  14. Dear Mr. Miles: The Big Ten welcomes you and burns a couch in your honor. love, Your new friends in Columbus
  15. I wasn't able to load the video at work. He didn't shoot anybody in the face, did he?
  16. This is worth quoting, regarding the BJs finding subs for Leclaire while he is out: When I first skimmed it, I thought they were actually putting Malarchuk on the roster for Thursday. Which would have been both cool and frightening.
  17. Yeah, the GD channel on Sirius is pretty cool. I only have the satellite radio in the car, so I don't really get to listen for long periods of time (to hear whole shows, etc), but it has become my default channel to switch to when there are crap songs playing on other channels. Though I was a bit miffed that, of all channels on Sirius to replace, the GD channel replaced the freeform Sirius Disorder channel, which was one of my favorites.
  18. I liked Pulp Fiction a lot when it came out and then watched Reservoir Dogs about a million times in college. Then Tarantino overkill set in and I haven't watched any of his films since then.
  19. I'm pretty sure this is all Clinton's fault, somehow.
  20. This is almost as much fun as after Coop was fired and I was hoping OSU would hire Chris Spielman and I was ticked off that they hired some jackass from Youngstown instead. I think Les Miles would be a gutsy call for UM in that his personality doesn't really fit the mold for UM's head coach. He seems more likely to tinker with the system, which may or may not go over well with the boosters in a place that emphasizes tradition as much as UM. But, at this point, I think that might be what the program needs. Which is why I'm pulling for Ferentz, because I think he'll just keep that status qu
  21. Nicely done, Lou. Thanks to you I'm sitting here at work listening to the Hot Fives and Sevens recordings for the first time in quite a while. Amazing how this stuff gets better each time I come back to it. You know, in a way I was surprised by the fact that I can look at that list and say "Hey, I own more of those albums than I do of most of the 'essential-rock' albums listed around here anymore" ....yet I think I will forever feel like I have barely scratched the surface of the jazz world. I like this bit here: That sums up a lot about how I came to discover jazz and why, as predomina
  22. Sweet. I killed the old thread by invoking the name of the dreaded "Biakabutuka".
