I think it started earlier than that. I jumped off the bus at "Before These Crowded Streets", which did have a few good tunes on it, but the majority left me cold and there were a few--I'm thinking of Stay/Wasting Time and maybe Rapunzel--that were just awful. I went to a show on that tour and that was the end of it for me. I don't have any ill will towards them, but yeah, they haven't done anything that interested me in a long time.

Oh, I know all that. But have you seen his nose?!

Indeed. That was fun. Truth be told, tho, I feel for Torre. Despite all those years of cursing him, he's a good guy and I'd be glad to have him in Baltimore if I thought anything could help that club. Probably it would just leave him looking even more haggard than the last few years in NY have, and nobody should have to put up with that crap. So go fishing for a while or something, Joe, and find another team to coach and maybe soon you'll get your own shot at knocking the Yankees out of the first round in the future.

Well, I can't really rebut a Wilco vs ABB comparison without sounding critical of Wilco, which isn't my intention, so I won't. Suffice it to say, though, I disagree. Very different styles and approaches to playing, so in a lot of ways its apples to oranges. Why do you hate oranges?

Does it rhyme with squish? Those HORDE shows were tons of fun, tho. I think the only years I went were the tours that were headlined by the Allmans and by Neil Young, so those were guaranteed awesome, but I remember seeing a million great bands. (Wilco played the HORDE in support of AM, if I recall) I guess you're right, though, of the handful of the "big" groups to come out of that scene, not many have stuck around in heavy rotation for me all these years later. Oh well. Sure was fun, tho.

I know musical appreciation is all subjective, but holy cow. I'm gonna go shake my head and mutter to myself for a while.

The OSU defense is playing this season like they've got a chip on their shoulder the shape of the state of Florida. That's good to see. But I still haven't fully forgiven them for pulling the most colossal no-show in history on Jan 8, so its going to take some more time before I fully believe in this year's model. I like the fact that this year's team is led by the D, which is better suited to the ways of the Sweatervest, so they've got that going for them. Still, with the cupcake schedule so far, its hard to know what we've actually got. With the way the rest of the Big Ten is playing,

Are The Beatles your favorite band ever?
quarter23cd replied to Sir Stewart's topic in Someone Else's Song
Yes, but I don't think that obligates you to enjoy listening to them more than somebody else. That's an entirely different thing. -
I think this is definitely a case where the fans draw more ire than the band. Even the jamband kids hate the DMB crowd. I guess they're an easy target. I dunno. The music is, at worst, inoffensive and, at best, can actually be fairly decent. I was a fan in the early days and remember "rooting" for them to hit it big. In hindsight, maybe that was a mistake. I like the early stuff because it was very quirky and rhythmic--Dave's guitar playing and spazzy voice kind of worked in a strange sort of way. And then there was the dreck that was "Crash Into Me", and ever since then they've tried

How many Electoral College votes does my office have? -
The Big Ten can't afford to be taking wins away from Michigan. What's next? Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, Illinois competing for a conference title, mass hysteria!

Wow. Several times in high school I showed up to baseball games all hopped up on cold medicine, but never would I stoop so low as to engage in steroid-enhanced 4-square. For shame.

Kudos to the Indians for making me smile last night. I don't have a horse in the race this year (or any of the last 10 or so), so Yankee-hating is about all I got. Ousting the Evil Empire would be sufficient to get me on the Tribe bandwagon. Heck, I might even be willing to apologize for when I was in college at Ohio State in 97 and my roommates and I were all from out of state and were annoyed with the Tribe-bandwagoning around campus, so the night the Marlins beat the tribe in the WS we drove around all night until we found a place in Columbus we could buy Marlins t-shirts to wear arou

anyone ever have one of these in Cleveland?

No kidding. Somebody took me to the Carnegie when I first started living in NY--I had never before ordered a sandwich which I could take home and eat leftovers for a week! -
Here's a pointless bump for the hell of it. I'm actually glad this is a reserved-seat show since my bro-in-law and I each have to do some shuffling of kids to/from assorted sports activities that night and will probably arrive with barely enough time to snag a burrito at LaBamba's and slide into our seats just in time. If this were at the Newport or LC or something, we'd be in the back of the house talking to the bartenders. (not that there's anything wrong with that, either...but I'm pumped about actually being close to the stage for a Wilco show for a change)

Being There one of GQ 50th's "22 albums that changed men's lives"

Finally, the punks have gotten through to that GQ audience they were aiming for all those years ago... -
I disagree. Music today just sounds like noise. And those damn kids won't stay off my lawn!!!1!

Ten years ago I would have been really excited about this. Now...well, it would be kind of a novelty act, really, to see some guys who haven't played together in over a decade get together and bang out songs that they wrote when they were kids and probably don't have a lot of attachment to anymore. I would see this if both bands were at a festival or something and maybe UT got together to play a mini-set between the current bands' sets. Nostalgia is great, and like a lot of people, I wish I would have been there...but since both guys are still actively producing new material, I can only as

I haven't made a batch in a while, but I brew from time to time. I'm hardly a master, though--I've had some very mixed results ranging from very good to...well, there was that one batch that tasted kind of funny and gave me a wicked headache and made my nose go numb, but man, what a buzz! So, come to think of it, I guess all of my experiences have been excellent after all!

Not sure if 2 weeks is "soon", but at least we are now in the same month.

I think its inevitable that everybody will eventually get hit by a car in New Jersey. Metaphorically speaking, anyway.

It undoubtedly had something to do with rowdy audience members ruining it for everyone. Good to hear he's not dead.

Ditto to all the comments about the annoying electronic toys. Any gifts my kids receive that plays that grating, fingers-on-a-chalkboard "music" incessantly for no apparent reason--yeah, those toys are known to get "lost" quickly in my house or else the batteries keep "dying" very quickly. Honestly, the best musical toys my kids have are one of those drums (similar to what was mentioned) that comes with a tambourine, maracas, harmonica, etc inside. And a little First Act guitar. I play it more than my kids do and its impossible to keep in tune, but hey, what do you want for $20. We also

dropkick murphys - the meanest of times
quarter23cd replied to napoleon's topic in Someone Else's Song
I can understand that. I didn't like the first record they put out after changing singers and the older songs sounded strange live with somebody else singing them. -

Well, their band portrait doesn't make it any easier to take them seriously:
