From experience, I have absolutely no problem with the prescribing of antidepressants, etc.(but that's not to say they aren't overused, either) They can be extremely helpful for a lot of people--restoring a sense of normalcy for long enough for those other lifestyle changes to take root. (Frankly, its hard to meditate very effectively if you're having a frigging panic attack! ) I guess it only bothers me when I see people using pills as the sole form of treatment rather than addressing the root causes or making actual lifestyle adjustments that could help them. But, yeah, we have a funny

Agreed. The decision whether or not to take the pills is your call to make. Really, it probably depends how debilitating your condition is. If you've only been on them a few days and are having second thoughts about taking them, its probably not a huge deal to stop, but I would still run it past your doctor. I went through anxiety/depression issues for a time and can tell you that I let it build up and avoided diagnosis/treatment for so long that I eventually wound up in very bad shape (unable to hold down a job or go through a "normal" daily routine without self-medicating other ways) an

Yeah, that was my impression from watching the trailer: lotsa Marty. Which could be good, but is this a rock movie or a movie about making a rock movie? Still, it looked kind of cool.

Decemberists: Long and Short of It Tour CANCELLED
quarter23cd replied to Mrs. Peel's topic in Someone Else's Song
Hey hey, once again my fair city finds itself in an unaccustomed seat at the musical Cool Kids Table. -
I think my favorite part about this O's blowout is that it made the front-page feature on SI.com and just below the giant picture of 30-3 on the scoreboard is a second headline that reads: "Orioles extend manager Trembley's contract through 2008" That's just comedy gold right there. Not that you can blame the crappiness of the team on the manager anymore (they've gone through approximately 34 of them in the last few years), but the timing of the announcement is just funny. Heck, I'm strangely proud of 30-3 loss in the same way I'm morbidly proud of that 0-21 start in 1988. Sometimes thi

Honestly, this game hurts no more than any of the rest of this past miserable decade. I'd be surprised if there wasn't an angry mob with torches and pitchforks looking for Angelos after this one...but, then again, most O's fans (like me) stopped paying attention months ago and are just finding out about this now as they arrive at work to find that their O's are the butt of every office joke being made this morning. (I mean even more than usual!)

When I saw the HS in Columbus in March it really made me wonder if the band had realized OSU was going to be on spring break when they booked a venue directly across the street from campus in March. It was an awesome show, partially because the crowd was smallish and rather intimate. I bet they'll get a much bigger turnout this time around. (which, I'm sure, is the reason for the return trip) I'm betting they'll have to open up the balcony this time around, tho hopefully I can get a little closer than that.

No. This isn't about them, silly. This is about holding out for that ever-diminishing chance that by some fluke this might end better than expected and allow this president to not look like a complete asshat in the history books. Isn't that what's really important to the American people?
-
Probably already trying to disassociate themselves from the team's history.

Sooo....are these going in the good pile or the bad pile?

I had an odd experience with Paxil, though I guess it wasn't really a big deal. I told the doc the pills were causing me to feel even worse and so we tried something else that ended up working great. And that's the thing--the drugs, themselves, aren't necessarily the problem. In fact, they can do a lot of good. But they're a "quick fix" for problems that generally run much deeper. Particularly the anti-depressant bunch--they don't cure anything, they just help make you feel a little closer to normal for a while. Which can be great if you use that time to sort shit out and learn to under

Where to start with The Grateful Dead?

There's no such thing as a free lunch. Except when there is. And then it sucks more when it gets taken away. I can't decide if I'm surprised by this move or not. After the archive.org ordeal, I looked at the Tapers Section as an act of goodwill towards the fans, as if they were saying "Okay, I know we shut down downloads on that other site, but here we can at least control what is being put out there". There was some cool stuff, and I liked being able to download b/c I can't stream at work. Its partly responsible for helping me re-discover the Dead in the last couple years and it has re -

Soooo..... What's up with the Taper's Section going stream-only? Hmmmmm. -
I started reading the article but was distracted by the Bears eat man at beer festival headline.

Fortunately, my memory of the kickassness of the drums for Q and Not U has not diminished in the last year, so I'm still up for this.

10-27 Columbus, OH - Newport Music Hall Wow, I just saw the HS @ the Newport on St Patty's Day. Never dreamed they'd be making a return trip so soon. Nobody plays Columbus twice on the same tour! Not even bands that live here do that!!!

I gotta admit, I've never really been a fan.

My new computer was a gift. I shall try to be grateful... I did tech support for a primarily Mac-based company back when they were making the OS9/X switch--in fact, a large portion of my job initially involved doing the upgrades on individual workstations. It was an interesting experience, particularly because I knew almost nothing about Macs at the time. (I could never get over how, in the interview, they never bothered to ask if I knew Macs) They have their quirks, but I will admit that it was a relatively painless transition for the most part. I've not used teh Vista yet so I'm try

Maybe, but I think they're trying to achieve different things with their writing. There's plenty of room on my shelf for both.

Yeah, I've got a new laptop on order and it will be arriving with Vista. I'm determined to give it a go. Can't be worse than my current laptop that sometimes struggles to run Windows 2000 Professional....can it?

Where to start with The Grateful Dead?

I saw that a while ago. I couldn't find a reason to get worked up about Starbucks selling a greatest-hits comp. I did, however, hear "Sugar Magnolia" over the PA system at Wal-Mart a couple weeks ago and it kind of freaked me out. -
I applauded the cojones of it when they started their new year's MSG show with this song plus a bit of drone and segued into Spiders. I wasn't at the show, but listening to it I was imagining an arena full of WTF looks from people.

We should totally make a record together.

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes has the right balance of brilliance and stupidity. I always wished I'd come up with that. The best I ever came up with is my hypothetical hip-hop name: Burning P.

It has to be said: Spicy Chicken > Sliders Baconator sounds intriguing, but also sounds like it should come with a release form.
