  1. overrated: Always In Love, I Am Trying to Break Your Heart, Hummingbird underrated: Less Than You Think, Hell Is Chrome, How to Fight Loneliness, Should've Been In Love, Far Far Away, Mountain Bed
  2. The bells are definitely over the top, but I think intentionally so, so it makes me laugh. Honestly, I find them less grating than the synths in Always in Love.
  3. Do they make you sign a waiver when you buy this stuff? I'm pretty sure my paper plate would catch fire and I'd be in the hospital with no hair, bad scalp burns, and I'd probably be deaf. But that's just me...
  4. "hey-ho/look out below/your prayers will never be answered again" Possibly my favorite Wilco line ever. (yes, really!)
  5. What A-man said. The Tapers Section on dead.net will keep you pretty busy--not too shabby, especially considering it is free. Poke through that for a while and you'll quickly come up with a pretty wide selection of songs from different eras. I used to recommend the studio-album route for people just starting out who want to familiarize themselves with the catalog (rather than ending up listening to 32 different versions of "Truckin"), but anymore I'd say the Taper's Section offers the best way to get a taste of the band's music. But, for the record, my favorite studio records are: Americ
  6. I think Rush is the last show scheduled at the big shed here this summer before they tear it down to build condos. I haven't listened to them much in a very long time but always wanted to see them live at least once. Might have to consider it. Thanks for the review!
  7. I've never heard that "Check You For Ticks" song, but my wife tells me "its cute". Can't say I disagree with you about the Toby Keith thing.
  8. I don't really have anything against any of the bands on this list--the ones I've seen were pretty good and the rest I've at least heard good things about. (except who the hell is Gogol Bordello?--I must be more out of it than I thought) But lists like this are so pointless. I really don't see the need to do this kind of thing over and over. Edit: the funny thing is that the best thing I got out of this list is that I am now looking up Gogol Bordello. Wow, gysy punk? Really? Well, you learn something new every day...
  9. When I was a little biddy boy My grandmother bought me a cute little toy Silver bells hanging on a string She told me it was my ding-a-ling-a-ling Oh My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling And then Mama took me to Grammar school But I stopped off in the Vestibule Everytime that bell would ring You'd catch me playing with my ding-a-ling My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling My Ding-A-Ling I want you play with My Ding-A-Ling Once I was climbing the garden
  10. I never used a bag. I proudly carried my Trapper Keeper out in the open for everybody to see.
  11. The only thing I remember using a lot of when I first got to college was money. Lots and lots of money. There will be so many new places to explore...and they all sell beer!!!1! In all seriousness, all the above suggestions are good. A good area rug is a must. Preferably a cheap one that can be thrown out and replaced when it starts to smell funny and people start making fun of it.
  12. Yeah, well, I guess I'd forgotten about it until I started writing.
  13. Well, I dunno that there is too much to tell, really. I got a call out of the blue a couple years ago from a guy telling me he he saw my resume online and thought I'd be a great fit for a job, yada yada. Nothing unusual. Told me it was for some financial outfit, but I didn't pay too much attention. I was looking for a programming job and the initial conversation was just vague enough that that's what I thought I was going to be interviewing for. (he kept talking about my education, experience, and skill set being a good match for the position) So I called him back later when I had more
  14. Dear Phil, can we maybe trade one of those Nokia Theater dates for another midwest show? I'm thinking Ohio-ish. Let me know if you can squeeze that in. Thanks. -q23
  15. I remain on the fence. "Get Behind Me Satan" finally clicked for me earlier this year and I listened to it a lot for about 2 weeks, and then I listened to "Elephant" and my enthusiasm lost all momentum.
  16. Ouch. Yeah, that's maybe a bit more than I really want to pay for a cover band--even a really good one.
  17. One more note on this otherwise almost-dead thread. Had a hallway conversation with a guy at work here and mentioned that I'd been at the Ratdog show the other night, at which point he pointed out to me that Dark Star Orchestra is playing here tonight and he had this to say about it: Which cracked me up, for some reason. Don't think I can make it tonight, but one of these days I'll have to give DSO a try...I've heard they're actually really good.
  18. I was going to try doing this, but there are so many albums and I don't think I'm enough of a fanatic to be anal enough to rank them. With some exceptions, you can probably just list the albums chronologically and not be too far off in ranking them by awesomeness.
  19. Maybe Bon Jovi should avoid using such generic song titles.
  20. "Via Chicago" would be really great if, when played live, Jeff inserted the name of the city they were playing in, in place of just saying Chicago. You can never go wrong with the audience-pandering city shout-out. That's just gold.
  21. Heck, by 25 I had largely given up drinking at bars. 18-21 were the prime years for that.
  22. I am in the wrong line of work, my friends.
  23. I'll have to check out some of Phil's shows with Warren and Jimmy playing...that should be sweet. The other day I was listening to a show from when Ryan Adams was playing with them and I found it interesting how the band seemed to adapt its sound to fit around RA's style rather than forcing Ryan to "play Jerry" all night. It definitely sounded very collaborative. Some songs seemed to work better than others, but yeah, I can see how you might say that his band takes more risks. Ok, well I just started this thread to talk about the RD show and now I can't wait for Phil to come to town. Wo
