  1. I never really got them. There were a couple tunes I kind of liked, I guess, but that whole bit about The Edge and his appregios--yeah, that got old to me. I remember liking the Rattle & Hum album, which always got me a sneer from U2 fans, so I think that killed any interest I had. I wish I could say that I had refined tastes at that age and was quick to detect their bloated, saurian nature which was to be more developed later...but at the time was probably just too busy listening to Cinderella and Great White.
  2. I liked S/T album but was probably one of the few people who really disliked Whatever and Ever enough that I really haven't listened to anything since. I still spin that first record every once in a while, though. "The Last Polka" just came up on my iPod the other day--I always liked that one.
  3. What was up with that whole exchange Jeff had with the guy with the cane up in the pit? (the "Is that a baseball bat??" comment Jeff made) I missed most of that.
  4. Affirmative. You can practically see the evil running through that guy. This photo was taken right before lightning bolts shot out of his drumsticks and small woodland creatures everywhere ran for cover. * props to Wendy for the photo
  5. SEC B, Row 5 on the aisle. (Nels side of the stage) After hearing myself "singing" along on a tape of the last Wilco show I attended, I was a bit more reserved in my participation this time around.
  6. Wait, I thought I was the one screaming "Yeah!" I may not have been in close proximity to any tapers, though.(hopefully) There were some interesting audience reactions around me last night...I couldn't tell which material people knew. Like, for example, with the whole sitting/standing issue, I didn't understand why nearly everyone sat down at the start of "You Are My Face" (don't they know we're about to ROCK on the middle part?!) and then it seemed everyone around me stood up en masse for the start of "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart" but then once they were standing they didn't seem to
  7. I'm not sure banana-y is a word I've ever considered using when describing beer, but this still sounds good.
  8. When Andrew Bird came out, I knew they were obviously going to play "Jesus, Etc", but was I the only one secretly hoping for "Dreamer In My Dreams"? (hey, it could have happened--they busted out all kinds of old tunes last night!) I didn't really expect it, tho. Andrew seems like more of a 'violin' guy than a 'fiddle' guy.
  9. I just grinned through that whole second encore. Awesome to see some of the older songs coming back. (and nice to see some love for "Too Far Apart" lately, which I always thought was underrated and I never dreamed would make it back into setlists) I'll add to the list of favorite comments for the night: Nobody seemed to know whether to sit or stand all night long, which made for a weird vibe for much of the show. During Spiders, I was actually kind of bummed because the crowd was still pretty lame (hence Jeff's rock-show-pandering comments) and I really didn't expect them to come back o
  10. I'm not even a huge RA fan, but I've downloaded a couple of his fairly recent shows from archive.org and have been listening to them quite a lot lately. Up until very recently, everything I'd heard about this tour was very positive. I guess Ryan is still Ryan. Oh well. I may have a chance to see him in Columbus soon--never seen him before, so if I go, I'll just hope for a tantrum-free night.
  11. Cleveland is going to be defending a lead in game 7 and be one inning away from the World Series, only to see John Elway emerge from the tunnel and lead the Red Sox to a dramatic game winning touchdown in the bottom of the 9th. That's how Cleveland rolls.
  12. This has been true for a while. I think I swore off my allegiance to the term "indie" when it stopped meaning "sounds like Pavement" and started meaning "has a neat hairdo and an ironic t-shirt". Wait--crap, maybe those things can be traced back to Pavement, too. Its all just a house of cards I tell you..
  13. Of all the reasons I still haven't completely forgiven my Buckeyes for laying an egg last January (and there are many), perhaps the biggest is that it only added credence to the public refrain of "SEC good, everybody else (especially Big Ten) baaaaaad". I'm not saying the SEC isn't strong right now, and I won't deny that the Big Ten is weaker than I can remember it, but I also think the degree to which this is true is probably exaggerated. Oh well, such is life. There is a lot of football yet to be played this year and a lot will work itself out as the season goes on, and the rest we wil
  14. Leonardo's got you covered:
  15. No decision yet either way for me, but there's a chance I might have to bail out at the last minute. Got a sick baby at home, so depending on how she's doing by tonight it'll be a game-time decision whether I'm going or not. Those are the breaks.
  16. Even as a fan, I have a hard time believing that OSU is the best football team in the country right now. But, be that as it may, they are not only undefeated, but currently holding their opponents (albeit easy ones) to something like -35 points per game. You really can't ask them to do anything more right now. Its October.
  17. Where are the articles about Cleveland's pre-game religious rituals?
  18. Careful, young grasshopper. I admire your enthusiasm, but this statement could be equally true: I agree that OSU has a great shot to run the table in the Big Ten, but (my opinion) they're not on the same level as LSU right now. The D is solid, but with Beanie continuing to run on a gimpy ankle (and Saine's health questionable), I worry what will happen if we have to go to a pass-first offense later in the season. Boeckman is improving, but it would require a herculean effort from the D to hang with the likes of LSU right now. Then again, they did it in '02 against a stacked Miami squad,
  19. When that album first came out, I felt like I really wanted to like both of those songs. Maybe its too easy to pick on the "easy rockers"--"Rapunzel" is a decent jam, but the lyrics are kind of dopey. Similarly, with "Stay", I distinctly remember driving in the car with my gf at the time and during the bridge part of the song was playing and she said "Wait, did he just moan 'ohhh, just groping you' like it was supposed to be sexy? Couldn't he have picked a better word than groping? Maybe some people can make it work but coming from Dave it just sounds creepy!" And now I still think of tha
  20. At OSU in the 90s there was a thing called the Burrito-bago (a Winnebago converted into a kitchen) that drove around and parked outside of parties and/or bars and served what was quite honestly the greatest thing I have ever tasted. (although the key to the Burrito-bago is that it was kind of magical in the sense that it only seemed to show up when you were completely hammered, so judgment might be impaired somewhat)
  21. Well, we are talking about Billboard, after all.
  22. This just in: the show is now less than a week away and I have thus far managed not to misplace my tickets. That is all.
  23. Nice. I wish Phil was playing somewhere closer to me on this tour. Oh well.
