  1. Heh. You know, I recently bought Vol 1.1 and don't really care for it and so I was kind of meh on this Road Trips series thing......although damn that does look like a better set. We'll see. There are still so many DPs (not to mention the free stuff out there) that I haven't heard yet that unless I hear raves about this, I don't think it is at the top of my priority list.
  2. I missed this. As much as I wanted to hear it, I knew I had to be up and online at 4:00am for work this morning, so I made the judgment call and decided to get some sleep instead. Maybe I can catch a re-broadcast--or else I'm sure somebody out there captured the stream and will post it somewhere. (fingers crossed) What did you guys think? I saw the comments a few pages back about it not sounding good and you guys not being able to decide whether it was the stream or the band. Did it get better? Was there a lack of chemistry between the guys at the beginning or something?
  3. I saw the news about this reunion last week--but, at the time, had also heard that there was a schedule conflict and that it wasn't happening after all. If this is confirmed then it is very cool to see them back onstage together. Even better if those rumors about them touring this summer are true.
  4. Like most of this NFL season, I only watched bits and pieces of this. I don't think I have ever rooted for the Giants for anything before in my life--and I'm not even sure I was rooting for them last night either--but that was a quality win there. Great game by the D, though I really thought the Pats had sewn it up with that late TD. I'm surprised NE lost, but not too surprised. They've definitely looked a little shakey at times through the playoff. The Giants D deserves all kinds of credit, but I really never expected the O to move the ball down the field to score in the last 2:00 like
  5. I'm not sure that playing one song makes them "just like" anybody...
  6. It is. Used to be a tradition for my dad and I. (well, until I moved away from the NY area, that is) I can attest that it is definitely a bit of a boy's club, though. Its a good thing the music is great because there's not much to look at. In the interest of keeping it on topic, we didn't really get the expected snowfall here, either. But one of my daughters is sick, so I "worked from home" with 3 young kids climbing all over me.(which pretty much guarantees that no work gets done......but its fun!)
  7. Please. If this thread's existence hasn't caused this entire site to implode, I don't think anything that can be said from here on out is going to cause much of a "tempest." That said, it needs to be pointed out that your views on Being There are very, very wrong.
  8. I would definitely love to hear that set with Duane sitting in. Off topic, but I wish the Allmans would put out a few more archive recordings. A few have started to trickle out (I particularly like that Stony Brook one from a month or so before Duane died), but there has got to be a ton of great stuff somewhere out there. Maybe its hard to package/market some of it because I've heard a few boots from '71 and they all have a pretty much identical setlist to the Live at the Fillmore album--guess they weren't too into mixing up the setlists--but, hey, all Duane is good Duane to me. Hearin
  9. I dunno, it seemed to work out ok for all those guys on Cheers.
  10. I can't make fun. The farthest I've ever been into Canada is Windsor, where I had a hotel room with a view of Detroit.
  11. ...or not. Jeebus, this team can't even make a trade without shitting all over itself. I can't even decide how I feel about losing Bedard--prospects are nice, but this team is now perennially building toward some future that keeps looking farther away all the time. At this point I'm curious to see just how bad this team can get! I can't imagine why anybody would want to play for this club. [edit] PS - Mr. Angelos, if you are reading this, I was just kidding about that last part. I played some high school ball and had some pretty good defensive range at shortstop back in the day. PM
  12. I don't really dislike any of those songs. In fact, I really liked the album when it first leaked. Listened to it a ton all spring. But by the time of the actual release date it had kind of faded into a "Gee, that's nice, but I don't feel like listening to it right now" kind of thing for me, and hasn't returned to the rotation. I think the last time I listened to Wilco in any form was when I saw them in concert in October. It was a good show, and they have several good albums, I just haven't really been in the mood for any of it lately. No big deal.
  13. Yep. And its a shame. I grew up just down the road from GMU, back when that was considered pretty much the far outskirts of the burbs. Was a nice place to grow up. My parents still live there and I agree that traffic is a nightmare. My sister lives in Manassas and I wouldn't wish that commute upon anybody. If you're going to do DC, I agree, you gotta commit to it and live in DC. Same goes for NYC. I lived in that area for 8 years and kept moving farther and farther out, in search of a lower cost of living that I never really found. Looking back, my favorite place I had was my initial
  14. I'd actually put NO at #1 on my favorites list. Definitely the most unique American city I can think of. Haven't been there post-Katrina, though. You're right about the food, but I'd say that Bourbon St is an okay tourist starting point, but plenty of good stuff beyond that. Boston is my #2, I think. DC and NYC obviously have a ton of interesting stuff, but having lived in and around both of them, its hard for me to be objective. I love them and hate them both equally, depending on the day. Overall, I prefer DC. I grew up in northern VA and would move back there if it wasn't so crowd
  15. The time has come, people. Kill your stereo. Buy a guitar. Make your own damn music.
  16. Given the fact that I can't access YouTube from work, I can't click on any of these links. So I'm just going to go ahead and assume that you're all voting for "My Ding-a-Ling".
  17. But is it their positive reputation or their negative reputation that is undeserved?
  18. You touched on something here. There is such a disconnect between the fact that we've become culturally obsessed with candidates as individuals (ie, likability, background, character, and "electability") and the fact that (as W has proven) the individual sitting in the chair is far less important than what a candidate's positions are and who their allies (and likely cabinet-members) are.
  19. That's what I was planning to try next.
  20. Good question. I don't have access to iTunes at the moment and so can't really answer it. I thought I had read, however, that it was available only through dead.net...which didn't offer downloadable version.
  21. Yeah, I'm still wading through the google searches, trying to find an answer that makes sense to me. A lot of the forum posts I see are from 2002 or 2003, when the HDCD technology was a new thing. Certainly things have changed since then. From what I have seen so far, iTunes is capable of reading the files, but does not "handle them well", for whatever reasons. The best description I can give of the output is that it sounds like there were channels missing. My first impression upon hearing the resulting mp3s was "Where's Phil??" He's there, but very quiet. Same with the drums--they are
  22. So I have an embarrassing confession to make regarding my previous comments about the Road Trip set. When the CDs arrived in the mail, I was in a hurry and quickly ripped them to high-bitrate mp3 via iTunes--not realizing that (1) these are HDCDs and (2) iTunes, although it can read and rip it, does not handle this format well. Ah, the dangers of the digital world. The resulting mp3s sounded very odd. Everything sounded clear enough, but the vocals and keyboards were way up front, the bass and drums were kind of in the background, and the guitars somewhere in the middle. I kept wondering
  23. I don't have anything against noodling, although I've never been too big a fan of moe. But it sounds like an interesting scene to take in, at least.
