  1. ...but didn't you say that more bands will be added? Besides, I'm not sure the presence of one band you don't like is a very good reason for missing out on several that you do, but hey, that's just me. These festival things are interesting to me. I see the lineups and think "Wow, that would be awesome!" and then I realize that I have no chance of ever actually attending one since these muti-day camping/concert things really aren't geared towards people with, you know, jobs and families and stuff. Its sad to think I'm too old for this shit...
  2. Hey there! I remember you.(the avatar helps) You haven't missed much. We're just keeping ourselves busy by writing thorough critiques of the new album that nobody has heard yet. Welcome back!
  3. Remarkably, my favorite team(s) somehow manage to dwell in the cellar year after year. What are these "playoffs" you speak of? Is this some strange code-word for what I refer to as "baseball season"??
  4. I think that is already the case.(that people just want smaller files) Most people who convert stuff (me, at least, and I'm just projecting upon everyone else ) do so primarily because digital storage space comes at a premium, so if I can convert something into a reasonably-high bitrate MP3 to save some space, I will.(I can tell some difference, but not enough to bother me terribly) Someday when a device the size of an iPod can hold terabytes of data, I probably won't bother with converting....but for now I only have 7GB left of my 60GB iPod and I'm really anal about not using it up too f
  5. If old homes (Mt. Vernon and such) are your thing, there's also the lesser-known Gunston Hall (George Mason's home) not too far away, either. I think I must have gone there on field trips at least 17 times as a kid cuz it was less crowded and easier to manage groups at than Mt. Vernon. But it probably requires a car to get there.
  6. New Album Reviews: Wilco - Sky Blue Sky ***1/2 Ween - Poop Brown Poop *****
  7. Sadly, this doesn't seem strong enough. How about sneaking in scathing editorial with a headline that reads "DIE! DIE! DIE! (or at sell the team, fer chrissakes)"
  8. They must be nice--even the city's (former) mayor has been known to stay there on occasion!
  9. Agreed. This is a pretty impressive place just to walk into and look around.
  10. ...or he gives it to U2 so they'll put him in their videos.
  11. This is probably correct, tho I have to admit that, having grown up there myself, I could never bring myself to ride the tourmobile because it really did seem kind of dorky. It probably is a fantastic way to get around, tho, if you don't mind the locals giving you the "damned tourists" glare.
  12. Dunno about the Salvadorian food, but Old Town Alexandria is also a nice place just to stroll around...
  13. Good and cheap food, eh? Well, if you're into chili-dogs, Ben's Chili Bowl is a must. No, really, its good! I miss that place. My stomach just growled. Umm, aside from that, there's the usual assortment of monuments and museums which you probably don't need me to tell you about. I've never been to the Holocaust Museum--its one of those ones which have been "on my list" for a while, but since I only get back into town once in a while to visit my parents I haven't gotten around to it yet. If your time is limited, I'd just stick with the stuff on The Mall for convenience since everything
  14. Seriously. I just dropped everything and went straight to Oink, where I found....nothing. If you guys are just messing with us, its NOT funny......except it kind of is.
  15. How much CO2 is being produced in order to transport, heat, and broadcast the performers in Antarctica?
  16. Wait, so the jocks are the ones saying it isn't edgy and experimental enough? What kind of high school did you go to??
  17. That sounds fantastic! The best I got is the time Dan Zanes came and played at the childcare center my kids go to. Which was cool b/c he's like a rockstar to 5 yr olds, but (sorry, Dan) I would have preferred Tweedy and Langford.
  18. I'm actually not worried at all about this album. I AM curious to see the critical reaction if this album indeed does come off more straight-forward than their recent efforts. Will the indie-snobs go "WTF?" and condemn it for not being mopey enough? Who knows? I couldn't care less. I'm happy about the sound of these songs because it sounds like they're finally shrugging off some of the "artistic genius" baggage that came with all the critical-adoration they received for YHF and the pedestal so many people put them on. I'm sure the pressure to maintain that kind of perception was enormou
  19. Ummm....I just discovered I think mabye my Oink account got deleted cuz I haven't logged in for so long. I don't remember what their policy is on this, but knowing that place, they have booted people for far less. Bummer.
  20. Would it be a sellout for Wilco to lend a song to political ads? Can we merge this thread with the music-in-advertising one?
  21. I'll offer a compromise of fading out at or about the 5:37 mark, but if they won't back down from their hardline stance for complete removal of the track, I'm afraid that nuclear war is inevitable.
  22. I think Billy Joel and Hall & Oates are more mom-rock.
