Apple taking over the world...
quarter23cd replied to Nonlinear Nonfiction's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Mmmmmmmmaybe. The mini-computerishness is undoubtedly cool and will attract people, but it is not a replacement for anybody's home computer/laptop, so it is really just another additional pricey (and not terribly necessary) appliance. And when people are already spending $700 on gaming systems, I would think the primary market for this is a rather smallish group of gadget junkies with a considerable amount of disposable income.(then again, this is Apple's core market for just about everything, so maybe they know what they're doing) It will sell, but I don't see this sort of thing becoming a -
Are looking to live in the city, or outside of it? Not that I'm a great wealth of knowledge on the subject either way. I grew up closer to DC and have a passing familiarity with Baltimore, but never actually lived there or anything. Fell's Point is nice, tho a bit on the pricier side, I'm sure. Plenty of areas downtown that you'd probably want to avoid, but there are some cool spots tucked away in there--I guess you'll just have to check it out. The 'burbs are okay, tho I can't think of any that I particularly recommend over anything else. Are you moving there for a job/school? I guess

They were actually quite fun when I saw them play. This was way back before they were really known at all. They were playing the second-stage at the HORDE fest in 94 or so and the "stage", such as it was, was really only a small platform so you could really just walk right up to it. I had no idea who these people were, but they started drumming like crazy and people kinda gathered around to watch and pretty soon people were dancing onstage with them and band members were coming out and dancing with the audience and stuff. Pretty fun stuff. Honestly, I'm a little shocked they're still tog

I do, but I'm probably biased, what with that whole childhood-idol thing. Having watched him closely his whole career, I can tell you that he was indeed a tremendous player. Did he blow up the scoreboard every night? Not by today's roid-fiesta standards, but neither did Gwynn, really. (who, by the way, I can't think of a better player to accompany Cal into the hall) To a fan watching him day in and day out, the streak was nice, but it has been overstated in its importance. Sure, the "ambassador to the game" factor got him quite a few extra votes for a first-balloter, but I don't think th

Ok, I'll admit that the iPhone looks frigging cool, although I doubt I'll be buying one since I already bitch about the cost of my current cellphone and the only thing its got going for it is a grainy little camera that I never use. -

Indeed. Actually, at one of my old jobs I grew quite fond of my Mac once I got one of those cool Kensington trackballs with a zillion programmable buttons...so the "one button mouse" can be overcome. The eject button thing has always driven me nuts, tho. Glad I'm not the only one. -
Which is about as many seconds of pro football I have watched this decade. But you have a point. My biggest problem with bowl season is not so much the lack of a "true champion" than it is simply how far removed the bowls feel from the rest of the season. There's such a disconnect from the regular season, these might as well be exhibition games...which might be why its hard to generate much fan interest beyond the top couple marquee matchups. I've been slow to jump on the playoff bandwagon for some reason, but I really do think a playoff would solve both problems by eliminating the ridi

Pretty soon people might even start using their computers. -
This is true. Woulda been nice if they had at least put up a fight last night, tho. Oh well. Time to go break in a new quarterback and start all over. How many more days till the game in Ann Arbor?
-
An odd pairing, to be sure, tho I'd kind of like to hear what that sounded like...

Given each team's bowl performance, I'd say UM would win in a nailbiter, 4-3. If nothing else, maybe the Big Ten will implement a conference championship to extend the season and keep the teams a little more clear of cobwebs. Then again, many years a conf championship would involve OSU/UM playing each other back-to-back weeks (and maybe even then again if they ever institute a playoff!) Madness, I tell you. Pure madness. But it would be fun.

Meh. Even when Being There was new, I remember my friends called it as dad-rock. Why change now? Dad-rock seems to be working for them quite nicely... (note: I am also a dad)
-
Evidently, with all the talk between OSU and Michigan about how they treated that game as their championship, somebody forgot to tell them that "No, really, you have to play another game. We're not kidding." I'm not sure I've ever seen an otherwise great season so thoroughly shattered.(and I was a student at OSU during the Cooper era, when year-end heartbreakers were a yearly occurance) Getting beaten doesn't bother me as much the fact that as a long time fan, that was easily the most atrocious performance I've ever seen from my favorite team. Lots of credit to the Gators for a great gam

Dear Tress, Welcome to my world. Sucks, don't it? love, Coop

I'm throwing in the towel and going to bed. Hats off to Florida for a great game, but I also don't think OSU could have played worse if they tried. They've been in a fog all night and appear to be running at half speed and I see no signs of heart anywhere on this team. I never suspected that this team would show up this unprepared. I'm going to bed.

Well, here we go. Probably my last post before gametime. Go Bucks!

Maybe. I remember when I was really young they used to show German soccer on PBS, I think, on Sunday mornings and I thought it was really cool. There were announcers, but I had no idea what they were saying so I just watched and followed along as best I could and it was pretty neat. I'm not sure how announcer-less tv football would be. Certainly, a lot of the commentary is unnecessary, so it might be worth a shot. On the other hand, there have been times I've been watching a sporting event at a bar or something with no sound and something happens in the game that isn't obvious (like a pl

He is, yet somehow he is a strangely-endearing twit. Maybe just because he has been broadcasting football games for as long as I can remember, so I cut him some slack. Half the time he's spouting nonsense, but its easy enough to tune him out. (except when he latches onto a catchprase--like "Automatica"--and then I want to reach through the TV and smack him)
-
They dropped Fox?? Wow. I'm going to be watching the game at my mother-in-law's house where they don't have cable, so the antenna reception will be a bit grainy, but I can live with it. (I may make a last-second call to go watch on a big-screen at a sports bar, but am not sure I feel like fighting for viewing position)
-
I still have a grudge against that guy because of one too many times hearing Brent Musberger refer to him as "Automatica!" when he was in college.
-
I've tried this strategy with the Danny Snyder era in Washington (not to mention the Peter Angelos era in Baltimore). The downside to this is that the NFL and MLB are dead to me, indefinitely. Hope you have a favorite college team to help ease the pain.

The weather forecast is calling for light snow tonight in Columbus, which will serve the dual purpose of (1) helping put out the couch/dumpster fires, and (2) giving people an excuse to be a little late to work tomorrow.

Not what I meant. But not a bad idea...

Soooo. Anyone pumped up for the championship game tonight?? Seriously. Anyone? Hell, I'm about as big a Buckeyes fan as there is, but the wait has gone on too long. For as pumped up as I was for the Michigan game back in November, well...this is the opposite of that. I woke up this morning and almost forgot the game was today. This doesn't even feel like part of the same season anymore. This feels more like an exhibition game... Am I alone on this one? Rest assured, I will spend the whole day today pumping myself up and I'm sure I'll be into it by kickoff. Just not really fe
