  1. I was in Columbus this past weekend for the OSU/Indiana game and this was one of the possibilities that was being talked about by a lot of people in the stands around me. I'm not sure about the likelihood of an OSU/Mich rematch. I think its more possible if Michigan beats OSU in Columbus, just because the Buckeyes have a little more "padding" right now seperating them from the pack in case they take a loss in that game. Obviously, I hope this doesn't happen, tho. In terms of potential rematches, I've got my eye on a possible OSU/Texas pt 2.
  2. True, but in terms of perception it doesn't seem to matter a lot where the money is coming from. I work in an office full of Yankee fans and almost every complaint I hear about A-Rod starts with the phrase "For the amount of money that guy makes..."
  3. Well, that moment in the All-Star game several years back where A-Rod traded positions with Ripken for the first inning was a classy moment. Beyond that, I've never had much feeling one way or another for the guy. Helluva player, puts up great numbers (most of the time), but hasn't had a storybook ending yet. Oh well. Sometimes things don't go your way. That's baseball. I wouldn't mind having him on my favorite team, but not for the current salary. Nobody in baseball is currently worth that. I thought that deal was stupid then and its stupid now. As for the PO'd fans...for the kin
  4. Being down 3-2 and going home to play the last 2 games isn't so bad...definitely no reason to give up hope. Its been an up and down series and neither team really has been able to sustain momentum, so anything can happen, and playing at home should give them a bump. In terms of momentum, I wonder how much the rainouts in this series have kind of messed with the players' continuity. It already feels like the ALCS ended a long time ago and this one feels like it will just drag on forever.(I also wonder a bit about the Tigers' momentum while they sit around and wait all week)
  5. New career path for Jay?? (sorry, sorry, couldn't resist)
  6. Well, I'll give em credit that its a pretty creative video...tho the song itself is a rather less-imaginative cover, I would say. Maybe kids these days have never heard the original, so I guess its cool, but I kept expecting them to do something more strange with the song.
  7. Its odd to see a happy birthday thread turn into a "ya know, I never really liked that guy" thread, but, um, I guess throw another vote in that category for me. Happy bday and stuff, nonetheless.
  8. Yeah, this is a pretty common complaint.(and a valid one, I guess, since its pretty much the reason I haven't bothered going to see the band live for the past couple years) In a way I guess I can see it as them consciously trying not to fall into a state of "resting on their laurels" and relying on old songs to anchor their sets. Plenty of bands who have been around a while fall into that "greatest hits" trap where they'll trot out new material at shows and the crowd reaction is >, so they say "Okay, back to the hits!!! " and everybody's happy again. I think Wilco is a long way off fr
  9. Yeah, I'm sure it just gets logged in a database somewhere until enough errors of a certain kind accumulate and they say "Hey, you know, maybe we should try fixing that."
  10. And then there are the owners who feel entitled to sellout crowds even when the team hasn't shown signs of life for years. Right now I'm visualizing a grumpy Peter Angelos shaking his fist and screaming "...but look at this beautiful stadium! How dare you people stop showing up!!! That's it, next year we're going to be even worse!!!"
  11. FF has long been the browser of choice among most web developers I know (with the occasional Opera fanatic thrown in). If it wasn't for the fact that many of the clients we create software for exclusively use IE, probably none of us here would ever bother using IE at all.
  12. I believe this was just a nasty rumor circulated by UM fans during the not-so-good-with-the-winning-against-Michigan Cooper years in Columbus, to get under teh skin of OSU fans. And it worked (now we really hate Michigan. ). But if ever the rivalry became downplayed on the UM side, I think the Bucks have got their attention again after the last few years. So yeah, the possibilty of those two teams being undefeated when they meet in November, its a pretty big deal. For anybody who doesn't believe it when they say stuff like this on ESPN, that game REALLY WILL be a bigger deal to fans than
  13. Yankees fans are so ubiquitous, nationwide, that when I first moved to the NY area I was somewhat surprised to discover that Mets fans actually existed. Lets face it, the Yankees make it easy to be a fan--they win and they do it pretty consistently. And they've done a better job than any team in sports of building a mystique and mythology about them. Wearing a Yankees cap is as much a fashion-statement as it is a symbol of support for a favorite team--and that is part of what is so damned tiresome about it. If you don't have a particular rooting interest in the playoff this year, its
  14. When the Mets are winning, Shea is a fun place to be. When they're not.....eh, not so much. That's true of any stadium, of course, but part of my bandwagon-hopping this year came about after going to a couple games early in the summer when they were just starting to pull away in their division--and the crowd was electric and it was just a fun, fun place to watch some baseball. There has been a vibe all year that something special was happening, and its nice to see that continue into the playoff. Its really hard NOT to like this group of guys they've assembled. No disrespect to Oakland or
  15. I haven't used Oink in a while for some of the same reasons. Even with my ports all correctly forwarded, my upload rate was horrid--which I eventually concluded was my ISP. It was damn near impossible to maintain a decent ratio. I was actually on the verge of being banned last year before that holiday-free-for-all when no dls counted against you, and there was enough activity during that period that my ratio finally soared to about 2.0...and I've been coasting on that ever since b/c my ratio has been gradually trickling down all year. I actually haven't used the site in months, but I log i
  16. Thanks. Yeah, I never said it was perfect (even as Borders goes, I've been to better), but any port in the storm will do.
  17. The one in Columbus? I used to go there a lot when I was in college and they had a pretty good selection of everything, I thought. Then again, that was 2/3 of a decade and a store-location ago, so who knows...
  18. Interesting, because I know several people who have said the same thing. No matter what your parenting philosophy, playing in traffic always seems to bring on the spankings. My wife is far more the expert on this than I am, being that she's studied the psychology behind it and all stuff. And as a rule, we've decided not to spank our kids. Not that I can say I haven't been tempted on certain occasions, but that's just it--spankings frequently seem to be more of a reflcetion of a parent's anger than a natural consequence of a child's action. Rather than helping them understand why what the
  19. Hey, at least your B&N has a music section. Borders, I've found, is frequently decent in terms of finding things I never dreamed I'd actually find there. Being that there really aren't any decent book and/or record stores near me, I have to admit that I got no problem with teh Borders.
  20. Nice. Growing up near DC in the 80s/90s, those guys had played a pretty big part in shaping my worldview, musically and otherwise.
  21. Yes. The cowbell jam on track 7 is cock, but after the 15 minute mark it just starts to seem kind of wanky. And Pitchfork rated teh time machine itself a 2.8 because it is an exact replica of the space-shippy new look of Ryan Adams' website, complete with cheesy rap song played on a continuous loop as you hurtle through the space-time continuum.
