  1. Haven't watched all of these yet, but the bits on Ft Reno and the old 9:30 brought back memories.
  2. I have no idea what to expect from Penn St this year. Its one of those games on the schedule that is never by any means a "gimme" regardless of what kind of year they are having. That said, I think OSU will overpower them over the course of the game. And, of course, playing Penn State at home has typically worked out well for the Bucks.
  3. Yeah, I haven't worked too much with the new IE yet, but I've never been a fan of Microsoft's "standards-optional" approach in the past. Still, my biggest complaint is that I'm not aware of a painless way of debugging javascript errors IE. When clients occasionally call us and report that they're getting javascript errors on our web-based apps, my first question is "Uhhh...is there another browser you could use??" (usually the answer is no, because they're not allowed to install anything) You might as well blindfold me and tie my hands behind my back.
  4. Firefox is my favorite if for no other reason than the fact that Web Developer Toolbar extension is the greatest thing ever invented and has made my life infinitely easier. And Firefox is pretty nice from a user standpoint as well, tho I've heard good things about Opera, too.(but haven't really spent enough time exploring it)
  5. I like Summer Sun quite a bit. Yeah, there are some tracks I'm not too fond of, but as a whole I think it is underrated.
  6. YLT albums almost always take a while to grow on me. Haven't heard any of this one yet, but I assume it will be the same.
  7. I like this idea a lot, in theory. I have no idea how it would play out in reality, however. Given that current payroll taxes are based on fairly concrete numbers, this calls up questions of who would be doing the emissions measurements, how often, and how do we ensure accuracy and reduce loopholes and/or corruption in the process? Again, I love the idea in theory and I'd love to see a plan to make this work. As for the questions about "What if everybody cleans up their act?"--well, that woud be wonderful (given that that's the whole point of this thing) Somehow, running into that "probl
  8. "Dad-rock is declared to be the 'next big thing'. Aging hipsters to celebrate--right after they put the kids to bed and take out the trash, if they don't fall asleep first." or: "Wilco going door-to-door on next tour to play living rooms across America."
  9. Seconded. At the core of virtually every religious tradition, as far as I can tell, is what we commonly refer to as the Golden Rule--all that "do unto others" stuff. Sure, the other details vary, but really at the heart of it, that's it--and that's a beautiful thing to live by, and it is something that virtually everybody can agree on, religious or not. And, given that similarity, it is almost unfathomable the amount of division that arises between groups who don't happen to share the exact same beliefs. That lack of acceptance is what, for the longest time, hardened me against the w
  10. I'm sure it is completely unrelated, but my hard drive at work died while trying to install this beast Friday morning.
  11. I didn't watch the ND/UM game on Saturday, but the outcome supports my theory that you should be careful about overhyping a team that got waxed in last year's BCS bowl. I'm just sayin... In related news, props to Cincinnati for outhustling the Buckeyes for most of the day on Saturday. The final score didn't reflect how nervous that game made me, at least for the first 2 or 3 quarters. Note to OSU: You haven't won anything yet. Don't ever #%@&*$ play that sloppily again.
  12. Seeing as how the OSU/Cinci game has almost no chance of being shown on the east coast, I think I'm gonna go pick apples with the kids tomorrow. Haven't decided yet whom to root for in the UM/ND game. If it could end in a 0-0 tie, I guess that would be ideal.
  13. I'm curious to see what they come up with to tack onto Wowee Zowee, since it always seemed like they threw everything they had into that record anyway. That album is a bloated mess in the best possible way. As far as this quote goes: Well damn, now I'm going to actually have to buy the rest of the reissues when they come out! I never liked the last two Pavement albums (10 years later and they still haven't grown on me), but if they left all the good stuff off the albums...well, it could be worth a revisit.
  14. I think the joke-about-the-encore is almost as common as the encore itself. Can't say that I've ever seen an opening-act encore, except maybe if its a hometown band or something maybe they'll give them a little longer time to play. I've seen that, but never actually seen an opening band walk off and come back out.
  15. I bet. Its interesting to see how those older bands handled it (even back then when they were young!) Watching the Allman Bros earlier this year, I thought it was interesting how they "rotated" members during the 40+ minute Mountain Jam. Everybody was there for the beginning and end of the song, but in the middle they kind of rotated and everybody got to take a break for at least a couple minutes. And the song still cooked. But I was joking about Wilco filling up time with having the guys come out and noodle by themselves for a while. I mean, I bet Glenn and Nels could make it very in
  16. The "encore break" is what you hipsters get for frowning upon extended instrumental solos. Would it kill you to sit through a couple minutes of a drum solo while everyone else goes and sits down for a couple minutes?
  17. Agreed. My list would go something like this: Still Feel Gone March Anodyne No Derpession
  18. One of my all time favorites (and it doesn't get much love, sadly, so its nice to see this song get a thread). Thanks for this recording--I like it. I would also love to hear a full band version, if anyone has one. (I saw the band once during the BT era, but don't remember them playing it and have never heard a 'live' version before)
  19. I'm numb to the coverage--or at least I've erected a helluva lot of metal-barriers to blot-out the endless 9/11 blather. My fiancee and I had just moved to NYC about a month beforehand. Didn't know much of the city, didn't know many people there, didn't know what to do or think when things started happening that day. Thankfully, we were both working outside the city that day. Still, it was scary. I grew up outside of Washington, DC and my family still lives there. I remember being scared out of my mind that nearly everybody I most loved were in NYC or Washington, and I was having troubl
  20. OMFG, NOBODY beats OSU at couch-burning!!!!11!!!!1 Hell, back in my day it didn't even have to be an important game--I remember the night my neighbors burned THREE couches in the middle of 8th Ave to celebrate Eddie George's 300 yd game against Illinois. I'm excited to see this game and think, theoretically, that the Bucks will do just fine. My problem, tho, is that I am wary of away night games on national tv, cuz I hate to say it but they do have a history of choking in those situations. Its early, but this year's team didn't come out of the gates as sluggishly as OSU typically doe
  21. Agreed. But I think I must have less patience or just less time to appreciate music these days, because nowadays there's only a handful of tracks I still listen to from that disc (and those you mentioned are definitely among them).
  22. You know its hurricane season when my local paper recently ran an article asking if the northeast is "due" for a big one (a realistic possibility, I'll admit), and then went on to hypothesize about a storm surge rushing up the Hudson Valley and the various rivers and tributaries thereof and, eventually, I think water will then be lapping at my doorstep. Considering that I'm pretty well up in the hills of CT, if that scenario ever really did play out, I think all of NYC would have to be under at least 200 feet of water. If so, y'all are focked!!!!
