  1. I can't believe I'm about to make this comparison between my childhood idol and a Yankee, but Jeter has developed something of a Cal Ripken aura about him, in terms of the way he is treated by the fans and the media. He's not especially flashy, but he's developed a reputation for being consistantly dependible. (even if he is a lame media-whore and inherently evil)
  2. I was buzzed off my ass a couple years ago at the Poughkeepsie, NY show and yelled out for "Sunken Treasure" and my friend reminded me they had just played it like 2 songs ago, so then I yelled out "Sorry, I meant 'Misunderstood'!!") I don't think Jeff heard me and, sadly, this moment didn't get captured on the recording of the show that I've heard.
  3. Nice. I got my alumni tix to the Indiana game this year. Hey, at least I actually got a Big Ten game this year (sorta).
  4. Wait, you're at FIU and surrounded primarily by fans of teams from the Northeast? I guess the "snowbird" phonemenon has extended beyond retirees and now includes college students? (not that I blame them)
  5. #3??? That's hores#!+!!! I'm moving back to C-bus to do my part on pushing this town toward the glory it so rightfully deserves. I'm indifferent towards the Irish. Most of my loathing is directed in the general direction of Michigan--with the rest dispursed among Florida St, Miami, USC, and a few others. The Domers? Eh, I'll root for them when they play Michigan or USC, the rest of the time I don't really care. Nice Fiesta Bowl game last year, tho.
  6. I believe the long-awaited bookend to "Being There" is going to be called "Doing That", and it will rock.
  7. Boy, I'm glad I got there to get a souvenir t-shirt before this happened. That's gonna be worth big money on eBay someday!
  8. Might be time for me to hang the Block-O flag outside my front door again. It always gets me some weird looks out here in Connecticut, where college football is on par with the Professional Bowlers League in terms of cultural-significance.
  9. Jay Farrar (he thought he could fool us with that dreadlock-wig and those woo-woo keyboards and stuff, but I knew it was him all along)
  10. Ouch. Just....ouch. Thank goodness they sent The Bird some friends to help cheer him up...
  11. With the level of expectations on this team right now, frankly, I hope they're not looking past Northern Illinois b/c of having Texas in week 2. I'm serious. One game at a time, fellas.
  12. Did you attend SMU before or after the "death penalty"? Vanderbilt........uhh, I hear its a lovely campus.
  13. I did, and it was impressive. Too bad it took a full season of horrendous offense before they finally clicked. Here's to hoping they come out of the gates blazing this year. The defense is young, but I don't generally worry too much about the D. They reload. What I want to see is if Ginn can step up to be the #1 receiver we need him to be. He's a burner, but we need a go-to guy in clutch situations.(I miss you, Santonio) OSU and UM both take immense pride in ruining each other's years. That should be a good one. (its always a good one, but even better when there is a lot on the line)
  14. As much as I enjoy Camden (it is a lovely place to sit and take a nap while the action on the field lulls you to sleep), lately I've been "slummin' it" and finding new love for the old "ugly" stadiums in the league. Spent a decent amount of time at Shea this year, and what was previously my least favorite stadium in the leage has somehow earned a spot in my heart. Accessibility sucks if you're not coming by train--parking is a mess, the amenities at the stadium are somewhat lacking, the building itself is a big blue ugly concrete bowl with airplanes flying overhead every few minutes, and the
  15. Not sure I like the pressure of the preseason #1 ranking, but here we go: Popular opinion suggests that OSU will be an offensive juggernaut this year. I'll believe it when I see it since I've been watching close-to-the-vest, field-goal-you-to-death Tresselball for the past several years--but hey, it appears to be working. If the offense comes through this year as advertised, I'll do naked cartwheels to Columbus and back!
  16. Absolutely. Although I will admit that time and distance can weaken old loyalties a bit. Of all my old sports loyalties, my connection to the O's has held up the longest. I'm pretty indifferent to the Redskins these days (and pro football, in general). Same can be said for the Caps. The interesting thing is that my loyalties have been strong enough that I haven't really picked up any new favorite teams, either. Earlier this year I started going to Mets games and it made me realize just how much I really miss going to baseball games. And it has been fun to follow them this year--but p
  17. It still feels a little weird to me that DC actually has a team now. The O's were my "hometown" team growing up, even tho I grew up in VA. I haven't lived in the DC area in many years, but people sometimes ask me if I'm a big Nats fan when they find out I grew up around there--and I just kind of look at them quizzically.
  18. Agreed. That's all I need, too. I think my love of RFK is partly sentimental since I have great memories of Redskins games with my dad when I was a kid, too. I was never sure how well it would work as a baseball stadium, but am glad it is still being used. Here's to hoping the Nats can put some more excitement on the field than they're currently doing--I'd love to see that upper deck bounce again like it did back in the Skins' glory days.
  19. How is RFK as a baseball stadium? I still refuse to accept that the Skins ever left it--I loved that place.
  20. That's cool. I've been living near NY long enough that I can feel myself starting to hop on the Mets bandwagon this year.(since my primary rooting interest is dead to me as long as their owner is still alive) I might have to hurry up and move again before it sticks.
  21. New Nationals fan, or longtime Expos fan? (just wanted to get a gauge on your level of suffering)
  22. That's a pretty bleak picture, considering that I wouldn't be a bit surprised if there were 3 teams in the Central who finish with a better record than anybody in the East. Its times like these I'm glad I'm an Orioles fan and my postseason anxiety ended sometime around mid-April.
  23. Wow, I haven't checked in here in about a day and I'm kind of amazed that this thread turned into an actual fight. The thread started as a simple joke based on W doing something that, by all accounts, seems pretty out of character for him. Is that mean-spirited of us? Maybe. But with another couple years still looming on the horizon, this adminstration has (and for many of us, has had for a long time) the feel of being an albatross around the country's neck...a burned to be endured (and, hopefully, survived). Forgive us for indulging in a little gallows humor from time to time. It keep
