  1. last year lollapalooza was $130 for three days. it's best to take off Friday (at least a half day) because the music starts around noon, or the good stuff around 2, and then it just keeps on going on that brilliant Midwest heat for 2 more days. I don't know - I've been to festivals that have been MUCH more uncomfortable than this. You have the breeze from the lake, the awesome skyline in the backdrop, and good cold beer to quench your thirst. Plus there is tons of shade to be found on the park grounds. This is probably one of my more enjoyable festivals, I would say. All that said, I won'
  2. sounds (and looks) like a wonderful night. the photos are all so lovely - good lighting and don't you love when you capture the funny expressions and moments of the night that will gleam in your memory for a long time to come? congrats everyone on wonderful living room shows this year. as my good friend Heidi used to say, we are quite a lucky bunch of people, aren't we?
  3. who knows. if even just a few tracks are salvageable, it doesn't really suck at all. as sam says, the translation is never quite all the way there, and this year without all the PA and amp'ed up system who knows how a recording will sound. I'm not really bummed if it doesn't work. the first show wasn't taped (in hindsight, for our protection, a VERY good thing) and it doesn't take away the experience or the memories. ah well. we shall see!
  4. just the cutest little ookpik i've ever met
  5. memorable tidbits: Sam's "I think it's the key of E!" chai ginger birthday cupcakes Stardog being called "one funny dude" Again. More Like the Moon ultimate beauty. WOW. just wow. Thanks everyone for making it "great"! Hotel SnS just keeps on getting better.
  6. aww, the VC birthday threads still do the job of warming the heart. Thanks, pals. 30 feels great and Puerto Rico was one of the best ways to ring it in. we were actually on Vieques, the southeast island occupied by the US Navy for over 60 years. It's been "back" in the hands of the locals for 3 now and perhaps the void of tourism has been a good thing. It was truly a jungle in some parts! Tropical paradise nonetheless... with gorgeous flowers ("her children stir her Bougainvillea blooms...") we also went to the national rainforest for a few hikes and every day had adventures in
  7. I think i have forego any tentative previous plans and just see this. and t - ditto what laura said.
  8. it's actually called All the Same to Me
  9. yeah, i say wait, B. there will be more chances, hopefully some on the cheaper side (or the more exciting accompaniment side ) and although the theater is nice, I kinda wonder if you would even stumble upon something a little more intimate. i saw her at the Paramount Theater in Denver (if anyone knows that - a beautiful old well kept theater, complete with red velvet and gold sconces) which is a 1870 seated venue. It was with my parents, so it was an extra special show We also had a little treat at FarmAid, but there she was just a blonde dot with the gorgeous voice on the stage
  10. i received an email (to an address i seldom use, but finally just cleaned out) that read something like this: but when i click the link, it just brings me to the home page of VC. Is this a new feature? I knew we had a list of people for easy access of PM'ing - is this the same thing?
  11. i like this song. thanks for the info. am really looking forward to this new album.
  12. huh this is so weird. that could be my life 10 years ago - either as the zamboni driver, or the figure skater thanks for the link, gogo
  13. sounds awesome jen, remind me of where you live? My memory isn't the best right now. thanks for the tales. can't wait to see them here soon
  14. I am listening to this song and it occasionally makes me think of him. I know he really liked it. This is the town i'm living in This is the street i'm walking down These are the friends i'm visiting These are the clothes i'm wearing now This is the house i'm building here This is the girl i'm marrying This is the chord i'm strumming now This is the faith i'm leaning on This is the child i'm bearing now This is the love that i've always had This is the face i make when i'm sad This is the town i'm living in This is the hard drive... This is the ocean have you ever felt yourself in motio
  15. silk screened?! jumping jesus wholy cow. kinda weird that they are at the Riv, but I guess it had to be done. what do you think - are you going? Nat - I agree with your assessment of the album. Actually, I think if you took picaresque and crane's wife you could do one album goofy with epics and one album something that you could listen to every day.
  16. i forgot to post! the second night nearly literally wiped me off my feet. the first three songs - woah! overall I'm glad to have a package deal of both nights, but Saturday will be etched in my memory for quite a while. The artwork was pretty cool too. http://www.mikescheer.com/ I have my eye on a couple pieces La, can you post the set list for that night?
  17. i've been listening to those songs and wondering what it was/is like for so many years now. it was definitely a night to remember. it would ahve been great to see Strangers and Pecan Pie, but I figure we've seen Pecan Pie before, so no real loss there. The rest were awesome - I loved the new songs more than i thought I liked them - they rocked out, and then moment's like Jeff's Spanish solo on Listen Joe was beautiful and moving. The old ones - man, I could have gone home after V. I used to listen to that song on repeat for entire afternoons. I loved the end of Glad and Sorry. The
  18. ah man, we didn't take enough advantage of hanging out in the cit-ay, kate! when did you move? enjoy the metra - i too like those train rides. they are massive lighting-like machines, but it's a smooth comfortable efficient eco-friendly ride, and that's something I can get on board with. (nyuck nyuck... sorry) all are okay in our part of hte hood too! phew!
  19. Paul, you were definitely there in spirit I think I even heard you ooo'ing. :omg is right. i missed this thread and so then i missed the need for the story, and i'm assuming i missed the story too, so paul, can we have story time some day soon please? I always cherish that one of us at Central Park, Uyen. It's on my desk at work.
  20. had a fantastic weekend - it couldn't have been better - what with the awesome spread of food (wait - we like to eat well? I never knew!), good friends, cozy home with animals, intimate living room and our favorite music. I am overwhelmed with comfort and joy from the laughs and camaraderie. Thanks everyone - especially Jeff and Susan - for coming together, contributing to a life-memorable weekend and fun musical time. It was made extra special seeing a couple good buddies play up there with our musical hero. I think we need more nights like these - singing and dancing and playing goo
