  1. I'm working on an article/blog/whatever about the 2011 resurgence of three of my favorites: tweedy, malkmus & thurston moore.....all three records blew me away, especially after being underwhelmed by all of them for quite a few years....guess i have to give beck some credit too for the latter two's records

  2. I've kicked this idea around in a few PM's and wanted to share it here. I'm sure at some point during this weekend some if not all of the Wilcos probably checked the Internet to see what the buzz was on their new record. Now, the general consesus on The Whole Love has been very strong. I haven't seen anyone totally evisacrate it. Even our old friend and passionate new Wilco hater, Essox, hasn't rallied against it. But, and this where the Wilcos actually reading it comes in, how do they take reading to the back-handed compiments. Cause, I am sure they love seeing something like "The Whole Love is fantastic!!!" but how many times have we seen that followed by, "it's so much better than Wilco The Album, that record blew." How would you react to that?

Now, look, I'm not criticizing anyone's opinion, positive or negative on any of their releases. Say whatever you want. Even if the band actually does read every word on the web, it's still your right say what you're gonna say. And I don't really think Internet comments really irk the band one way or the other, though Tweedy did bring up a VC criticism of WTA's production in an interview two years ago. But it was just something I thought of reading early reactions. The "back patting into upside the head smack" review. And if I were in

the band, I don't think I could handle reading anything on the internet about myself. But you know, I'm sensitive.

It's so much fun being here for a new album everybody (give or take) likes again.

I feel ya Mike. I'm just happy this board has some positive juice over the anticipation of this release. I have to admit, my viachicago lurking/posting has definitely declined over the years, but I've been on daily ever since my awesome Solid Sound weekend.

I feel like I really know so many of you from the 2004-2007 period, though I've only met a few in person. Having the board back in my life makes me almost as happy as having these tunes.....

    ......Almost!

  3. looking for a really great quality version of Spiders Solo. I heard the Hawaii bootleg and he opened up with it, and I loved it. It's much shorter and too the point. I don't think even the acoustic Wilco version was like that. But im not crazy about the sound quality. Can anyone recommend a show/track to download off Wilco Archive?

Check out last year's Boston show from this thread. They opened the acoustic set with it.

  6. Aren't we (fans) masses enough? I sort of hate the idea of a Wilco juggernaut after all these years... I don't want "the masses" to come to Solid Sound! Small is beautiful.

    agreed :thumbup

  7. from SM in May:

“Hey its May 2011– and we have some updates. Yeah, the new album is called “Mirror Traffic”. There was a lot of deliberation on the album title front but in the end we went the cryptic route–for some reason “Madonna in Love” didnt swing it with the test market. FOr a long stretch when it was gonna be called “L.A. Guns”, but with lawsuits flying left and right these days, I was talked off the ledge by cooler minds. This is bad form to talked about what might have been, Negative Hypnosis, but in the age of tell-all I thought I’d join in.

    from Mike in July:

We’re having lots of fun practicing for the upcoming tour; re-learning all the songs off Mirror Traffic with Jake, plus dusting off a few deep-ish tracks from the first 4 records. Also, over the course of the last year plus, Stephen’s written a whole new album’s worth of tunes, so we’ll probably play a few different new ones every night. And we’re learning some surprise covers too, so it should make for a fun show.

i just realized that janet's gone, which kinda sucks, but at least she went out w/ a kick-ass record.

  8.

It all happened at the Loft. If anything, I think recording at the Loft has always been the best thing for them. From what we can tell so far it worked well this time.

My bad, I thought they recorded some in the Berkshires this time around.

    Either way, I'm pumped
