My favorite way to trout fish is to bait a 50' trot line with red worms and then lay the trot line out in the stream for the evening. Next morning, with a little luck, you have a mess of good eating!

Fyi, I had better luck fishing the cricks and streams outside of Yellowstone. Less pressure. Some of those streams were less that 2 feet wide and we caught all kinds of trout. All you need is some fresh worms and a fishing pole..... I realize thats blasphemous to the trout worshippers but if you want your boy to catch fish, go for it.
