  1. Some great pics and a video from this event in the Shot In The Arm facebook group today. Not sure how this link works if you're not a member but all are welcome: https://www.facebook.com/groups/390889574423674/434253923420572/?notif_t=group_activity
  2. Great screen name, give my regards to Ena Sharples... Only one true front row seat - Patti Smith, Empire Pool Wembley - turned an arena gig into an intimate "Club show", but I've waited hours to get on the rail for too many GA shows and festival sets to list. The atmosphere there is always great but often the acoustics are poor - vocals tend to go out through stageside PA and past the folks at the front so for shows where the sonics are more important to me, I like to get back by the soundboard. My theory is that the soundman's going to mix it to sound best from where he's sitting.
  3. I ended up with: 101'ers - Elgin Avenue Breakdown Decemberists - Picaresque Dionne Warwick/The Stranglers - Walk On By Dresden Dolls - The Virginia Monologues The Autumn Defense - The Autumn Defense Grandmaster Flash/Stiff Little Fingers - The Message David Bowie/Tom Verlaine - Kingdom Come Happy Mondays - Pills, Thrills and Bellyaches The Darjeeling Limited OST The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan I'd never heard the Autumn Defense album before, very nice and a super clean pressing. Still had grab bags here with Zeppelin posters, buttons, postcards and beer mats, a couple of sampler

  6. [i posted this in Speakers Speaking In Code, but someone suggested I might do better over here]. Hi, I have a Tapatalk account and the current release of the app that works fine for other fora on my iPhone, but I cannot find Via Chicago on there, though I've tried many permutations of search terms. I see other users posting with Tapatalk taglines so it must work for some of you. Any hints? Cheers, Colin
  7. Yeah, every time I come to this page in Safari, I get the 'open in Tapatalk' banner but if I click it, I get my Tapatalk app with my other forums listed but nothing for VC. Searching for Via Chicago in Tapayslk just yields a million Chicago-related hits.
  8. I never complained, I stated several times I supported their decision. The only change is that my HRC donation came out of my wallet, not my ticket refund...and I've to go back and rebook that vacation day that I cancelled at work.
  9. Good news, looking forward to it - still some tickets left last time I looked, but way in the back.
  10. Yeah, Hazel came on in the car this morning and that's exactly the sound I'm referring to. I posted on the Loft FB page as linclink suggested, they responded that they should post more gear info but didn't have the actual answer.
  11. Thanks, just posted.
  12. Does anyone know about the instruments Jeff plays on Sukierae? There's a very distinctive acoustic bass on some tracks (Flowering and Summer Moon are great examples) that I'm kinda obsessed with. Is it an acoustic bass guitar or a stand up bass in a high register (a la Peter Hook)? If it's guitar, anyone know about brands or models? Cheers, Colin
  13. I think there's only two of us on this thread who actually had tickets and so were personally affected. Here's my take, C&P from the Paste article comments: Colin Macqueen • 5 hours agoAs one of the ticket holders who's being "punished" or "discriminated against", I'd like to say that I fully understand Wilco's decision and I support it. While I'll be disappointed to miss the show, that's a small price to pay for affecting change in this world. When I think of all the South African fruit that I didn't buy in the 70s and 80s, I can see clearly how these things work. My ticket refund will g
  14. I'll be at Solid Sound. Besides, Primus/Dinosaur Jr. shows were just announced across the state line in Ohio. Booked.
  15. In my heart I know you're right, I guess I'm just disappointed to miss the show, but when I think of all the South African fruit I didn't eat in the 1970s and 80s, I'm reminded of how these things work.
  16. I'm assuming they'll come back if and when the law is repealed. It's only a short drive from Chicago...
  17. Copy and Paste from my comments in the "Facebook shit show" referenced above: As a ticket holder for the show I have very mixed feelings. It's an execrable piece of legislation but the overlap between [those would have attended the show] AND [those whose minds may be changed by the boycott] OR [legislators who would actually do anything about it] is precisely zero. I totally respect their decision, but I'm also glad that I already have my Solid Sound ticket in hand to catch them a few weeks later... My refund will be going straight to the Human Rights Campaign.
  18. She is indeed. Care to share any other discoveries? I'm enjoying Parquet Courts but finding it hard to get excited by Mac Demarco.
  19. I watched this too, really enjoyed it. Note that further albums were promised...
  20. The Record Store Day list is out and includes a 2 x 12" release of The Autumn Defense (2007). April 18th is the big day this year. http://recordstoreday.com/SpecialReleases
  21. This is my favorite part of any festival...and it's how I came to love Wilco. I'd been kinda ho-hum based on limited exposure but doing my homework for Bonnaroo 07, I picked up Kicking Television and was converted by the end of Misunderstood...
  22. That was my thought too. God, he was a genius...
