That first half was awesome. Official watch party at a bar near campus was awesome.

I like that people who don't like using stats always bring up fantasy baseball when discussing anything remotely sabermetrical, when fantasy baseball stats (HR, RBI, SB, AVG, R, W, ERA, S, K) are generally ones that sabermetric minded people detest. I think managers aren't really paying great attention to defensive players around the league. Fredi Gonzalez doesn't get to see anyone from 2/3 of the AL and only sees the teams out of his division 6 times per year at most. How is he to be considered some kind of expert?
-
Remember when Raffie Palmeiro won the Gold Glove that one year he played 30 games at 1B and then they didn't just fucking discontinue the entire award?
-
At least for outfielders, the scouts and the defensive metrics are starting to come closer together, and I think with defense that's the key. Infielders are still a little trickier because positioning plays a much bigger role in it.

Somehow, we still haven't fallen completely out of it. I feel like it's going to hurt even more when to finish 2 games out than to it would to finish 9 out. But still, 10 games over .500 now on the season. Woo.

Oh, let's hear it for Dennis O'Bell.

I don't remember these backing vocals in the original version of "Across The Universe."

If you are listening in headphones, the early albums are pretty jarring in stereo (unless they've fixed them somewhat in these? I haven't listened). You also do get some different mixes from what I've noticed on Sgt. peppers and White Album. Haven't noticed many differences elsewhere, though Paperback Writer is definitely inferior in mono (in my opinion, of course).

"Hey Bulldog" is soooooooo underrated. "All Too Much" is too. Sounds like someone's listening to the mono version of Past Masters Vol. 2.

Yeah. He got pretty innovative with the bassing from like White Album on. Before, he was just a great bassist. But starting with, like, "Hey Bulldog", he became the transcendent, innovative bass player. Some of the bass lines on the White Album don't even make sense to me...

"She Loves You" is their best pop songs. "I've Got a Feeling" is probably their best song.

I wrote my most recent music column for the school paper on the remaster of Abbey Road.

Joey Porter approves.

He's a pretty impressive orator: Makes Tebow's "We gon work harder than everyone" speech sound like the Gettysburg Address.

In the heat of the moment, when you just lost and you are frustrated because you had a terrible game and some douchebag who played basically zero role in your team's loss comes up to you talking shit and pushes you, what do you expect a 21 year old to do? He was provoked and instead of being the bigger man, he lowered himself. Not excusable, but understandable. I'm not saying he acted the right way, but he sure as hell didn't act completely out of the ordinary given the circumstances. We also don't know what was said, though if you watch the video of the crowd you can sure as hell see some

One thing I found at least kind of interesting is that in the clip ESPN keeps showing, you never see the BSU player hit the Oregon player's shoulder. Someone I work with was trying to make it into a racial thing. Probably not, but it definitely makes him look a lot worse if all you see is what I posted in that .gif earlier and not the few seconds before.

It's the fucking Beatles.

I believe in that same issue Esquire also raved about Terminator: Salvation and Funny People, so take that for what it's worth.

Like I said, it was perfectly executed to a person who absolutely needed it.

Overrated because the WS MVP is the most overrated pitcher in baseball and underrated because nobody actually remembers a damn thing about that World Series including the winner? And no, him being a Red Sock doesn't really have anything to do with it (But hey, I get it. Sometimes it's fun to ignore things). It's more because there are many Marlins fans who consider him the greatest pitcher in our history and think he'll be a hall of famer. And also because most people would include him in the discussion for best pitcher in baseball, but he's probably behind at least a dozen, probably.

I swear this isn't just me creating an alter ego so I have someone who agrees with me.

All that being said, if you are going to punch someone and get suspended for the year, at least he made it count. I'm hypnotized by it because I can't get over the feeling that there is nothing in the world this guy needed more than a good punch in the fucking jaw. And that's just what he got. It's perfect. And now he'll have to deal with the consequences. I'm just glad he made it count.

I think his point is that the best team doesn't win the world series all of the time. It's essentially a coin flip on a windy day. Outside factors can change the outcome, but chance is probably more important than anything else.
-
He said when determining the relative strength of the league's as a whole, the winner of the world series doesn't really matter. If Pedro and Brad Penny and John Smoltz had to face the Phillies every game they wouldn't like pitching in the NL. The Phillies are probably as good an offense as any in baseball. They aren't representative of the league as a whole.

The other guy got in his face, provoked him, and if you look at the video, definitely at least nudges his shoulder, intentionally or not. The BSU player absolutely deserved to be punched in the face. I look at him like that "Don't taze me Bro" kid (who coincidentally works for the same paper as me now). Definitely deserved it for being a douchebag. It's not like he's a star. He had one pass broken up in the game; he's a nobody. That said, the Oregon player shouldn't have been the one to punch him. He should have had some self control. He shouldn't have gone in the crowd. He deserves to be s
