The bold would make my top 10.

I think the first 150 pages of Fortress of Solitude are probably among the best I've ever read. Just absolutely perfect. A great book all around, but the first 150 pages (mostly just the detailing of his early years in the neighborhood) really did it for me. I need to get those. Maybe when I get paid this Friday. Though to be honest, I'm not sure I have the stamina for 800 pages of Simmons when I'm supposed to be getting married in a month. It might put a dent in the relationship Rereading this: Love this book. So delightful.

I rarely get through bad books, but I think the most dissapointed I've ever been in a book was Confederacy of Dunces. Maybe I was too young when I read it (like 9th grade), but I despised everything about that book.

(Ventriloquist)Jeff Dunham + crazy success = wtf???
bobbob1313 replied to Good Old Neon's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I find Jeff Dunham pretty unfunny, but Sarah Silverman is so much more obnoxious to me. She's the exact opposite of Dunham in that she's "exploding stereotypes", as GON said. But I find neither to be funny at all, and I don't think she really tells jokes as much as she just says ridiculous things to get people to laugh. The big difference between the two is you get the feeling that she's trying to make fun of people who believe the things she is actually saying and that Dunham might believe them, but really it's not that big of a difference. -
lol I think that's unfair, and I think most Dolphins fans are unfair to him. It's not his fault stupid Cam Cameron drafted him about 40 picks too early, and he's been miscast as a #1 receiver. He could be dynamite as a #2 or 3 receiver who returns punts and kicks. Whatever. We beat the Jets twice this year. Beautiful.

Hey, Ted Ginn! Nice of you to make an appearance.

Did Good Old Neon really get attacked from all sides for posting that story?

The best tracks of 2009: your favourite picks

I have listened to like no new music this year that I can remember. This is sad. -
This might not be true for all Mets fans, but the ones who live in South Florida are amongst the most arrogant, stupid, and obnoxious people I've ever encountered. Same with the Jets. They tend to be the same people, and they are worse than any Yankees fans I've encountered. At one Marlins-Mets game I counted the guy behind me bitch about people getting out of their seats over 50 times. He was the most obnoxious person I've ever seen at a game. At least it gave me and my friends something to laugh at. "This would never happen at Shea!"

I like that as soon as the Yankees lost like five people on my facebook went "Lol it's 2004 all over again yankees fans!" That's why nobody can be a villain like the Yankees.
-
They are a very distant second, probably. They are probably the only other team that generate strong feelings around the country, but I think more casual fans still think of them in that lovable goofball way.
-
Compared to the Yankees, people around the country love the Red Sox. The Red Sox can't be a villain. It has to be the Yankees. Look at how giddy your everyday fan was last year when the Yankees won like 90 games and missed the playoffs. It's not like that for anyone else.
-
I'd say it's also entirely possible they sweep the tough games and lose a game or two they have no business losing.
-
I kind of like that the Yankees seem to be spending their vast amounts of money much more intelligently now than in the past. I think it's good for baseball when they are dominant. You need a villain. People will not accept that the Red Sox or some other team that spends absurd amounts of money can be the villain, so the Yankees will always be that. Good. As has been said over the years here, the playoffs are kind of a crapshoot anyways, so it's not like they are guaranteed a WS every time they are good. And the Red Sox aren't going to stop spending money anytime soon, so the argument that

Is Pedro Martinez also this? And Carlos Beltran? And Carlos Delgado? And Magglio Ordonez? And anyone else that has ever signed a free agent contract?

lulz, good one. But really, why the Yankees and not, like, the Redskins? Or the Red Sox? Or the Cubs? Or any other team that does everything that they can to win. I love people who bitch about the money the Yankees spend because you know if they were only spending $120 million those same people would bitch about the greedy Steinnbrenners pocketing the money. As a fan of a small market team, It bothers me somewhat that big market teams can spend whatever they want, but I'm not going to bitch because the Yankees have the ability to spend more than anyone. They are spending everything they c

I also am rooting for A-Rod out of contrarian obligation. Everybody hates him, so I want him to succeed because he's a great player and people are stupid.
-
I hate when people say things like this. I don't necessarily like the Yankees, but I want them to win this year because I think they are the best team and I want to see the best team win the World Series. I think they are about the same as most major market teams, just to a greater extent because they have the ability to.

I'm pretty sure these numbers are right: In 1905, 19 college students died from playing football. President Roosevelt briefly toyed with the idea of banning it because it was so dangerous. In 1909, 33 college students died. The game is far, far, safer now than it ever has been. Hell, just the style of play alone has made it a safer game. It seems to me that GON is almost trying to blame the game for the punishment the guys take, but they all partake in it without being forced or coerced. Safety has improved dramatically, and new helmets are being created all of the time to help protect

There is no such thing as running the score up in the NFL. Anybody who believes this must also believe that there is such a thing as a company making too much money relative to their competitors. If you can't compete, that's your fault.

I feel like this album almost has to be listened to on vinyl.

I liked "Island In The Sun". I also like "You And I" and I think it's got a ton of potential as one of those crappy VH1 You Oughtta Know songs.

Funny story. So after every game, I write a post game commentary for our student newspaper. I like to think I'm mostly fair. I've been critical this year, but the team is 1-5 and hasn't shown any improvement, so it's warranted. Today I was confronted by an offensive lineman on the team and told to "stop talking shit". He then proceeded to drive away while calling me a faggot. So I'm, like, famous, I guess.
