  1. I've been known to get the party started by putting on my "Top 100 Rock Songs of the 90's" playlist. That's the music I grew up on. I'll always have a soft spot for "Hey Jealousy"
  2. Strange things are afoot in NBA free agency, and I'm not even talking about the Big Three, or whatever. The Bucks just gave Drew Gooden 5 years, 32 million! What the hell. Also, Richard Jefferson declined his option of $15 million for next year and became a free agent. WHAT THE HELL??
  3. Someone needs to get Salty some nudie mags.
  4. I've always associated "Birthday" by the Beatles with July 4th because it's my birthday. Up until I was like 7, I thought that song only got played when I was blowing out the candles on my cake.
  5. I remember like 2 years ago the Rangers had three really highly regarded young catchers in Max Ramirez, Taylor Teagarden, and Jarrod Saltalomacchia. It was considered an embarassment of riches! Baseball's a funny game. Maybe. Buster's a pure hitter, he should be fine, and it's not like Molina was doing much anyways.
  6. Has he ever told the other guy inthe booth that the best part of his day is the 10 seconds before he walks into the booth because he hopes he'll finally have left and made something better of himself?
  7. I was just trying to be funny...
  8. Marlins game on espn is delayed, sothey are showing NESN's coverage ofthe Sox game. Can one of you guys contact the guy with the wicked accent and tell him to start quoting Good Will Hunting to make it more entertaining?
  9. I was in Best Buy the other day and I bought a chrome slide. I didn't like the glass slide either, I like the "rasp" the strings give from the chrome slide. I look forward to learning a new technique.
  10. So my wife's family is giving me an old squier that they have had lying around. I'm thinking this might be a place to start a modification project. I'm thinking new tuners, new bridge, and new pickups as well as refinishing the neck and body. Anyone ever done that before? Any tips on how to get it done cheaply and effectively? Any technical tips?
  11. Maybe he needs to start Spring Training in January. It's taken him about a month to get going the last couple of years.
  12. Vizquel as a DH has to be one of the more puzzling things I've ever heard.
  13. That kills me. If you're gonna go with an age risk at DH, what on earth would make you think the guy who has never been anything more than an average hitter would be a better bet than one of the best hitters of the past 15 years? If both have at least even odds to suck based on age, wouldn't Thome be a far better option?
  14. Well, Andruw Jones and Mark Kotsay (to take one team's example) were both minor league contracts that the team opted to take on, weren't they? They weren't saddled by these contracts. Props for taking a risk and seeing if they have anything left, but at some point, you're shooting yourself in the foot by running Mark Kotsay out there 23 times as your DH (And don't even get me started on the 9 games or so that Juan Pierre and Omar Vizquel have DHed for them). There are a couple of reasons why the White Sox are 10th in runs scored (I'm looking at you, Gordon Beckham), however, a .664 OPS fro
  15. I was responding to what Lammy said: "And that OPS would be higher if pitchers were hitting in lieu of the DH?"
  16. It has nothing to do with pitchers vs the DH. Of course the OPS would be lower of they were pitchers, but that's not the point. The fact is, AL teams have a position that only has one skill requirement, and that is to mash the ball. Using the DH spot in the lineup to give a guy like Jorge Posada or Victor Martinez a day off in the field and keep their bat in the lineup is a good usage of the spot, if you don't have a dedicated DH. Those are guys who's bats need to be in the lineup. I understand that teams use guys in the field and in the DH spot, but my argument is that there's no reason
  17. It'd be one thing if teams were taking advantage of the DH. However, team's don't seem to realize the value of having someone who can actually, you know, hit, in a position where all they do is hit. The average DH in the AL this year has a .729 OPS. That is lower than the average 1B, 3B, LF, RF, and CF. It's a position that requires one skill, and teams aren't taking advantage of that. That's mind numbingly awful roster management on the part of practically everyone.
  18. It's incredible that it's happened to the rays three times in two season. I'm sure baseball prospectus is already on the case to judge the statistical probability of that happening.
  19. Well, the team tried to fire him last October and ended up giving him a shot, but the ownership thinks they are underperforming and a change needed to be made. They may be right, though our bullpen is dreadful as well, and that's not Fredi's fault. He'll be in Atlanta next year, I think.
  20. God, that was unnecessarily dramatic, but holy shit was it exciting when Donovan scored
  21. Marlins just fired the manager, bench coach and hitting coach. That's a bit unexpected. We've been underperforming, but jeez.
  22. I saw TS3 last night. It was incredibly powerful.
  23. Broken wrist is tough for a hitter. Won't be the same for a while.
  24. On another board I'm on, someone posted this. Sounds about right:
  25. It seems they come out slow on purpose. They are a very conservative team.
