  1. Saw R.E.M. 9 times between 1995-2009 and once perform on the daily show. Wish it was more but pretty good all things considered by how infrequently they seemed to tour

they toured a bunch in the early days. that changed with Out of Time when they decided to take a break from the road. i was lucky to see them in smaller places. Document was the first time in an arena with NRBQ opening. that was a great show. best was @ the paramount in seattle for Life's Rich Pageant with Guadalcanal Diary opening. i just got a boot of that show that's pretty mighty. 1 of the encores Stipe came out with a ghetto blaster & performed We Don't Need Another Hero by himself. pretty wild.

  2. Yep. Forty years ago they played their first show at the old St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Athens. For a friend's birthday party. What I'd give to have been to some of those early shows.

I saw them on the Reckoning tour. First visit to Seattle. There's a pretty famous (&awesome) boot of that show around.

  3. Damn it now Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne is in a coma from Covid-19 he’s been on a respirator for 2 weeks

    IVY (@IvyFanPage) Tweeted:

    Sad news friends,

Adam Schlesinger who is 52 year old from Ivy and the Fountains of Wayne has been on a ventilator for 2 weeks (and is in a medical induced coma) because of COVID-19.

We send our prayers to him, his family and doctors. https://t.co/j1zImgzWKk

    definitely prayers up for him

  4. The US army is turning the events/convention center attached to the football stadium where the Stones played last summer into a large field hospital in Seattle. It will be use for non COVID-19 patients to take some pressure off the local hospitals.

I've been watching the daily briefing of the US task force with the president. It's quite a spectacle. I watched on CNN & as the president was throwing NY governor Cuomo under the bus there was screen crawl where Cuomo directly called the president a liar about ventilators being stored in a warehouse in NJ. There also seemed to be some discrepancies involving statements being made about General Motors.

The president seems to especially dislike my governor Inslee of Washington & mentioned him in a less than positive light several times. He said he won't call Inslee. Recently Inslee has taken a lot of proactive action to try & slow the spread of the virus. He has also taken the initiative to open negotiations directly with China to get much needed supplies & equipment.

Apparently the vice president is keeping communications open to everyone regardless of politics & rhetoric. I'm not a huge fan of vice president Pence but applaud his efforts to see the bigger picture & take action. The whole situation seems extremely dysfunctional on all sides. I'm not pointing any fingers at anyone.

I think there is room for all parties to improve in the interest of actually working to slow the spread of the virus & save some lives. Now is not the time for partisan politics by anyone regardless of affiliation. I hope all aspects of all governments can work together for the common good of the entire world. Hopefully this can lead to a better world for everyone in the aftermath of the virus.

This was basically an editorial by myself based on observations after much reading & viewing of news. I hope I haven't offended anyone as it was not my aim to accuse anyone of anything. Benjamin Franklin, 1 of the founding fathers of the US, had an excellent quote that is as appropriate for these times as it was over 200 years ago: "We must all hang together, or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately."

Again I want to thank everyone who was concerned about my well being while I was trying to get a test & eventually getting the test that showed I don't have the virus. I still have some serious health issues but now am able to work on getting them solved. These days not knowing whilst having some symptoms is almost akin to being a leper & rightly so. I hope everyone is safe & well. Take care, Chuck

  5. Murder Most Foul
    Bob Dylan

Twas a dark day in Dallas, November '63
A day that will live on in infamy
    President Kennedy was a-ridin’ high
Good day to be livin' and a good day to die
Being led to the slaughter like a sacrificial lamb
He said, "Wait a minute, boys, you know who I am "
"Of course we do. We know who you are."
Then they blew off his head while he was still in the car
Shot down like a dog in broad daylight
Was a matter of timing and the timing was right
You got unpaid debts; we've come to collect
We're gonna kill you with hatred; without any respect
We'll mock you and shock you and we'll put it in your face
We've already got someone here to take your place

The day they blew out the brains of the king
Thousands were watching; no one saw a thing
It happened so quickly, so quick, by surprise
Right there in front of everyone's eyes
Greatest magic trick ever under the sun
    Perfectly executed, skillfully done
Wolfman, oh wolfman, oh wolfman howl
    Rub-a-dub-dub, it's a murder most foul

    Hush, little children. You'll understand
The Beatles are comin'; they're gonna hold your hand
Slide down the banister, go get your coat
Ferry 'cross the Mersey and go for the throat
There's three bums comin' all dressed in rags
Pick up the pieces and lower the flags
I'm going to Woodstock; it's the Aquarian Age
Then I'll go to Altamont and sit near the stage
Put your head out the window; let the good times roll
There's a party going on behind the Grassy Knoll

Stack up the bricks, pour the cement
Don't say Dallas don't love you, Mr. President
Put your foot in the tank and step on the gas
Try to make it to the triple underpass
    Blackface singer, whiteface clown
Better not show your faces after the sun goes down
Up in the red light district, they've got cop on the beat
Living in a nightmare on Elm Street

When you're down in Deep Ellum, put your money in your shoe
Don't ask what your country can do for you
Cash on the ballot, money to burn
    Dealey Plaza, make left-hand turn
I'm going down to the crossroads; gonna flag a ride
The place where faith, hope, and charity died
Shoot him while he runs, boy. Shoot him while you can
See if you can shoot the invisible man
    Goodbye, Charlie. Goodbye, Uncle Sam
Frankly, Miss Scarlett, I don't give a damn

What is the truth, and where did it go
Ask Oswald and Ruby; they oughta know
"Shut your mouth," said the wise old owl
Business is business, and it's a murder most foul

Tommy, can you hear me I'm the Acid Queen
I'm riding in a long, black limousine
Riding in the backseat next to my wife
Heading straight on in to the afterlife
I'm leaning to the left; got my head in her lap
Hold on, I've been led into some kind of a trap
Where we ask no quarter, and no quarter do we give
We're right down the street from the street where you live
They mutilated his body, and they took out his brain
What more could they do? They piled on the pain
But his soul's not there where it was supposed to be at
For the last fifty years they've been searchin' for that

Freedom, oh freedom. Freedom cover me
I hate to tell you, mister, but only dead men are free
Send me some lovin'; tell me no lies
Throw the gun in the gutter and walk on by
Wake up, little Susie; let's go for a drive
Cross the Trinity River; let's keep hope alive
Turn the radio on; don't touch the dials
Parkland hospital, only six more miles

You got me dizzy, Miss Lizzy. You filled me with lead
That magic bullet of yours has gone to my head
I'm just a patsy like Patsy Cline
Never shot anyone from in front or behind
I've blood in my eye, got blood in my ear
I'm never gonna make it to the new frontier
Zapruder's film I seen night before
Seen it 33 times, maybe more
It's vile and deceitful. It's cruel and it's mean
Ugliest thing that you ever have seen
They killed him once and they killed him twice
Killed him like a human sacrifice

The day that they killed him, someone said to me, "Son
The age of the Antichrist has only begun."
Air Force One coming in through the gate
    Johnson sworn in at 2:38
Let me know when you decide to thrown in the towel
It is what it is, and it's murder most foul

    What's new, pussycat? What'd I say?
I said the soul of a nation been torn away
And it's beginning to go into a slow decay
And that it's 36 hours past Judgment Day

  6. On first listen I am absolutely floored by this song.

    Stunning. Can't stop listening.

I don't usually say anything like this but I think he may be America's greatest artist. I know there would be an argument about this but just look at the body of work. it's been a few years since i've seen him but last time was transcendent. i've seen him a real lot & there have been a few clunkers but he is always at least interesting. what i've heard of the current line up is fantastic.

  7. First day of Seattle shut down. Just had to go out & get some blood drawn. It was spooky out there. Very few people or cars. Looked like original Day the Earth Stood Still. At least it didn't look like a Living Dead sequel like NYC. Feel bad for those folks.

  8. Sorry to read what many of us here are going through. My wife found out this weekend that the restaurant owner who's she's worked for since 2014 is shutting down for at least two weeks--maybe permanently. No work = no pay. This is devastating to so people many in so many ways.

Hope everything works out for you.

  9. I can't believe that didn't happen earlier. Any word back from your test??

No, but supposedly today. I wouldn't be surprised if it stretches until Wednesday though. I've come down with what I think is a nerve virus. I had 1 2 months ago. I had shingles about 6 years ago because of my messed up immune system & this is related. It attacked the nerves in my inner ear & there was permanent damage. Anyway, I woke up with half my face swelling up (opposite side from a few months ago) just like before. I called my doc's office to get a prescription & found they are closed for the week. I left a message but haven't heard back yet. Hopefully today. I have a med for the nerve pain that's leftover from last time but think I need the med for nerve virus. Hope I get it before I get to the feel like my head is exploding phase. This year has been beyond rugged. Thank God I was able to retire on disability last August. I had insurance for that & claim has been approved. The cherry on top is I live in an area called West Seattle which is across the bay from downtown. Yesterday they found cracks in the concrete supports for the high rise bridge that connects us to the rest of the city (& hospitals). It's going to be closed for probably months. 100.000 cars a day use this bridge under normal circumstances. There are detours but they are long. If & when things get back to normal, they are going to be overloaded. Not affecting me much really unless I need to go to doctor downtown or need to get to the freeway. Since I'm shelter in place, not a huge issue but could be if something more goes wrong.

  10. Lost my job today.

    Been there 14 years.

    Started when I was 19.

I guess I file for unemployment and hope they hire me back when we go back to normal living? I don’t know what to do. Face hurts from crying. Terrified they’re gonna lay my husband off too.

sorry to hear that. hang in there.

  11. Was supposed to be seeing the band tonight (Thursday). No make up dates yet.  :ohwell Probably smart to wait to see if things start loosening up at some point. I suspect if all goes well, Seattle will be tacked on the beginning of the Sleater Kinney shows. They are playing Spokane then (no SK though). I'm fine with no SK. I like them but would rather see Wilco on their own.

  12. Hope everyone is staying healthy and that chuckrh will soon be on the mend (and that his test turned out negative). These are surreal times for sure. There's no roadmap for it, at least not in the U.S. Hopefully we'll get through this together and come out on the other side a better country that's more prepared for such an event.

thank you. test was fairly unpleasant & i put up with a lot of that sort of thing. i parked in a loading zone & a doctor in full gown came out & did her thing with me sitting in my car. i had to lie down when i got home. test results Monday or Tuesday. still taking the precautions i've been taking for the last few weeks.
